This is a nicely equipped day pack, with capabilities as a weekender or for even longer trip. It’s probably too technical for a daily commuter pack, unless you’re lugging a huge amount of things to and from work every day.The straps and the back are the best features for me. The straps are height adjustable, so you can set where the pack will sit on your shoulders and back – a simple but useful feature. When you get the right adjustment it makes the pack rock steady. They’re very well padded and ventilated, so offer good comfort during sustained use, and they’ve each got a couple of small accessory loops. The back has a moulded channel system and mesh so there’s a little ventilation between your back and the pack – it could be slightly deeper but works ok in practice. The waist straps are incredibly comfy and are padded as well as the shoulder straps on some packs. There’s a small pocket on the right one, and a few accessory loops on the left. The inners have an airy mesh on them to prevent overheating. They’re generally well-designed but are slightly cumbersome and I was disappointed that they weren’t detachable. If you’re opting to not use them, as I do most of the time, they can be reversed and clipped around the front of the pack.Into the pack itself, the main compartment is secured by a draw-stringed sleeve at the top, and opens up to reveal the large interior. In there you’ve also got a smaller elasticated pocket against the back, which is intended for the water pouch (there’s a straw-hole at the top for this.) The main compartment is also accessible with a zip on the side of the pack. In practice I’ve found both the main top opening and the side access quite cumbersome. The top entry requires a long-winded opening and the side access means you’re going in blind as it doesn’t open wide. When you’re fully-loaded with multiple items it’s probably best to avoid putting anything you need regular access to in the main compartment.Which brings us to the smaller pockets, which are thankfully excellent. The top flap has a deep pocket on the top and a shallow pocket on the underside. The front of has a thin zipped pocket that covers the bottom half of the pack. In addition to these the sides have two elasticated stowage pockets, well-designed for bottles.Lastly, if you’re concerned about pack weight, this comes in unloaded at 900g, just under 2lbs. So fairly weighty for a 35ltr, but the sheer comfort of the thing more than makes up for that.If you're looking for a weekender pack that will be carried for sustained periods then this one should do the job nicely.

This little back pack is perfect for short day hikes for all the tat you don't want in your pocket. It has a couple of zip up pockets, one inside, good for a wallet and a few odds and ends, and on the outside good for hankies, lipsil, wet wipes and so on. There is a sleeve to hold a bladder, but we don't use one.The outer pockets are well sized for holding drinks bottles - a cycling 750ml drink bottle fits perfectly and is firmly held as was a borrowed metal drink bottle of similar capacity. While it was not heavy, it was useful having chest and waist straps and the carry handle was useful. We've used it as a light carry on for a holiday - good for phone, Kindle, camera, batteries, passport, waterproof and so on, to go up Snowdon, carrying stuff for the two of us on a very hot day, and on grey days where we could put our lightweight waterproofs in. If we wanted waterproofs, fleeces and picnic for two then we would want a bigger bag, but for a summer stroll it is perfect. The only negative is that you need to pack with a little care - the back is not rigid and so hard items such as battery packs can dig in and it is not as well aerated as a frame backpack so did get a little sweaty on the hot days.Don't buy this thinking it is an all-purpose bag, it is a small bag for days when you only want a small bag. If you have days you want a larger bag, then you should buy a larger bag and put up with the extra weight, or do as we have done and have more than one and choose the right one for the right day!

As I tend to become attached to my rucksack, (the last one I’ve used for 25 years despite various rucksack presents from my family). I’m very impressed with this rucksack, and have actually adopted it as ‘the’ rucksack, ( much to the relief of my family). Sizewise it says ideal for the weekend, for me this is the perfect size for a day on the hill, allowing room for first aid, waterproofs, spare warm clothes and food. There’s external straps and pocket for poles and ice axe, and they can be held securely. Although I put my kit in plastic bags its evident that the sack is waterproof as I’ve used it in some torrential downpours. It’s really light and designed to keep your back cool. This has the result of making me look super fit, as when my companion’s back has the tell tale sweat mark, mine is fine. The access zips are brilliant, no more emptying out the rucksack to rummage at the bottom. I did find the side zip a bit stiff, but a bit of polish sorted it out. There is only one small pocket on the belt, which I find useful for the phone and compass. I’m used to 2, which I find more convenient. I had to use trouser pockets for dog lead and bags. It’s black which I like as it doesn’t draw attention to you when you’re trying to creep up on some unsuspecting bird, or when trying to nip behind a bush.I use my rucksack as hand luggage when flying. This one looks smart, holds all you need and makes carrying and getting about much easier than a silly trolley.

I was reading the reviews on here before I bought it and found it funny that people have marked it down because it was too small.. It's 12 liters so yes this is a small bag. Don't expect to pack it for a whole weekend away (unless you can travel extremely light)If you are planning on using it for it's intended purpose though (hiking, piste skiing, a day in the city) then it's perfect. You can fit in all of the essentials (plenty of water, a spare layer, a waterproof, etc.)It sits very well on the back, very comfortable and lots of scope to adjust it to fit. Waist straps are a nice addition, perhaps a bit overkill for the city but you'll certainly be glad to have them if you are doing something more strenuous. They can also be tucked away so not really an issue. There is a pocket in the back for a hydration system, obviously if you are storing your water 'thin and vertical' then you are maximizing the room in the bag. The elasticated side pockets are also very good at holding water bottles.Remember though this is a small bag, so if you were planning on using it for anything more than 2-3days on the road then it won't work (3 days probably a maximum if you are traveling very light).I have added some pictures giving a rough idea of capacity. The bag isn't yet full and could hold some more, and if the water was stored in the side pocket then there would be more space inside still.

This is a practical, well made backpack and the thing I particularly like about it is its size that - while small - is both practical enough to carry most things you might need if you were hiking (or cycling) yet is small enough to be unobtrusive. It is comfortable to wear and benefits from a sturdy, ridges back panel that feels secure and prevents angular items from digging into your back (even if it is tightly secured via the comfortable shoulder straps and front strapping). In fact it is easy to forget this is being worn (provided that it isn't stuffed with heavier items). It has a reasonable number of useful pockets (a zipped outer one, a zipped inner one plus the main compartment and a larger internal pocket)and the whole backpack is made from sturdy and water-resistant nylon (though whether this would remain dry in torrential rain I couldn't say yet). Generally Berghaus produce quality if more expensive products and this item is no exception. That said I still view this backpack as good value (particularly as it comes with a lifetime guarantee). My only quibble is that contrary to the product description the rucksack does not come with a padded floor (which I think is an oversight, but is easy to remedy via cutting a small piece of foam padding and inserting in the bottom - if you can be bothered). Overall though, I like it a lot.Recommended

I've been using this for a few weeks now and am pretty happy with it. I like that it has so many hooks/straps, which means it is very versatile, and adjustable. There are two zipped pockets, one on the outside, one on the inside, so you can store items that you need to access quickly, and there is an inner pouch for documents or a hydration pouch. An expandable outer pouch gives a handy location for a water bottle and umbrella (in my case) and gives extra capacity in case you need it. There are straps across the main zipped compartment near the bottom of the bag which adds an extra layer of security if you make sure the zip handles are closed below it, which is a nice feature. There is a waistband clip which has an extra pouch. I'm not a big fan of fastening these (I use this for work and don't want to be rumpled) but that is a good feature if the bag is heavy and you don't want it just hanging off your shoulders. The back is very soft, so there isn't much structure, which is a feature or bug depending on your perspective. So far the bag seems very sturdy, and I think the price is fair!

I love this bag for a lot of reasons, not least because it's a true black colour and not washed out looking like some "black" backpacks I've used. It's got loads of room inside and the pockets are super handy for organising items. The straps are sturdy and comfy and the ventilation means even those prone to sweating more (like me) can be kept marginally cooler. It also matches my black Berghaus jacket so I feel smarter and coordinated. The two drawbacks for me are that the material doesn't indicate waterproofing, nor is there a compartment with a concealed cover like my North Face bag has - which lets me pull it out and cover my bag to protect it from the rain. Whilst I like the drawstring inner for a lot of reasons,on a practical level, the fact that for the main compartment there is no way to truly close and protect it, is a disadvantage and limits the context in which I would use it. When at a festival or even at work, I secure my backpack by hooking all the zips through a padlock - I cannot do so with the main pocket of rhos bag as it's drawstring with a flap which folds over it.

A great all round backpack for day trips, comfortable and provides easy access.A certain level of waterproofing but better to invest in a rain cover or dry bag for heavy rain.Pros:Very comfortableProvides lots of storage on the inside and on the outsideEasily accessible zip to main compartment on the side (not so easy if you have a dry bag on the inside)Cons:Not technically waterproof and NO RAIN COVER PROVIDED - invest in one or a dry bag for inclement weatherMore straps or loops on the outside would be helpful such as on the bottom for rollmats, there is one loop on the right but why not add another?Belt strap could have added pockets on both sides, there is a zip pocket on the right but the left is just mesh, could have easily added a mesh pocket.Overall a great bag and very robust as per Berghaus quality but feel as if there are better options out there for this price if not cheaper.

This is a fantastic little day sack for those situations where you don't really want to take a bag. Let me explain - it is very compact, small even, but big enough to fit A4 size magazines and with elasticated side mesh nets that can carry standard 500ml water bottles.I use it for trips into town with my six year old daughter to the museums - we can take some books, our raincoats and water and have room for any little bits and pieces we need to carry or pick-up through the day. In this situation I really didn't want to be encumbered by even a standard size backpack, and this bag is so neartly, tightly put together that either of us can wear it without really noticing that it is there.Qualityis fantasic too - tough fabric reinforced with a light weight frame - Berghaus seem to have really kept their focus on quality.

There is no denying the quality of this backpack. You can feel it as soon as you get it out of the packaging. It feels strong yet supremely light. Lets face the elephant in the room first, size. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is on the small size. I was surprised just how small when I saw it. Berghaus seem to say it will sort you out for you standard hike up your local hill/mountain. I guess if you're light on kit, or pretty fast you should be fine. There are a good number of pockets and I like the yellow padding on the external pocket at the front. All the zips are of good quality and there is a good ventilation system on the back to prevent your back getting hot when wearing.I think you can fit more in than you first think.I like the quality feel of the back.

Researched quite a bit before purchasing a backpack for a months travelling in east Asia. Can't compete with the build quality of a Berghaus backpack.Ventilation at the back for hot country, hose area to drink from the backpack and more than suitable size.Anything above this size I find would be for long term camping trips and hikes.I was bringing 4/5 changes of clothes, towel and expensive camera + equipment. With these ventilated bags, water proofing isn't the primary feature, so I purchased some extra water proof pouches to putelectronics in, just to be safe and Monsoon/wet season runs from July - December in Thailand and East Asia. All in all, a fantastic light backpack

6.6.2017

Smaller sized backpack with plenty of room and several useful pockets. Lightweight and comfortable to wear due to the adjustable, padded straps, shoulder and waist, and the frame feels quite rigid which helps holds the shape. Feels well balanced even when quite full and doesn't slip around. The back of the bag is made of mesh which helps keep my back cool and is a definite improvement on my current backpack. There isn't much in the way of internal padding though and there's no waterproof/showerproof rating which is a slight niggle. A generally good quality, versatile bag with sturdy zips and strong stitching throughout. I particularly like the understated, subtle design.

I usually use a 45l but thought I would downsize to a 35l for Saturday shopping etc. This 35l is way too small for me. Would only fit 2 kitchen rolls and a few bits...Really impressed with workmanship and colour though. Hard to see into bag as opening is a bit narrow. There is a large inside pocket, a pocket at the top of the bag with zip and a zip pocket on the belt handy for keys money etc. Also 2 pockets on either side, hold water bottle etc. The image advertising the bag is probably a child wearing the bag as it is much smaller in reality for an adult.

20.6.2018

I could have so easily given it 5 stars, it's a great bag. Good storage and I like how sleek it is. That said it would be much improved with a rain cover included. If there were also some straps on the top or bottom it would make it much more feasible for long-hiking as right now there is no way to store the tent on the outside (so it takes up half the pack). These are not deal breakers, but for the price you would expect them. Shop around and see what you like but everything else is Berghaus quality.

21.12.2017

A super handy backpack. The content is sufficient to carry some daily stuff. However, the 2 inside pockets are a bit small, making a hefty wallet no longer fits. The finish is neat, genuine Berghaus quality, and the backpack is resistant to rain. The wearing comfort is more than sufficient: the straps are long enough, the straps at belly and chest height are easy to open and close. However, the price is on the high side, but with the lifetime (!) Guarantee, that is less problematic.
