I originally tried another of Belkin's laptop rests/coolers and returned it as it was a poor concept and too tall. This is a relatively flat design, with a gentle wedge sloping from rear to front. Made for the larger 16-18 inch laptops, although you could also use a smaller one, it has a hard side on which the laptop rests and a softer, fabric-covered side that rests on the lap. It is quite comfortable in use although its physical size may cause slight issues if you are shorter in the leg. Those over about 5-10" should have no problems.Due to its physical size, it will not fit into a laptop case, in a drawer, or in many cupboards so it is left out standing on edge at the side of my desk, where it has been known to collect the odd drip or two of coffee or soft drinks as well as the occasional piece of sandwich filling. As the fabric side always rests against the desk and therefore protected, it is the working surface that gets the mistreatment. Fortunately, it is easily wiped clean with a moist tissue, baby wipe or general purpose cleaning tissues that can often be found around the office. In many uses, I have yet to find a laptop overheat (I have used it with many different ones under a variety of circumstances) or found that the heat from the laptop was passing through even when running the laptop at 70-80% of processor capacity, at which time its fan was running constantly and its exhaust uncomfortably warm.About 5cm thick at the rear and perhaps half that at the front, it is a fairly bulky item but it weighs almost nothing with much of it being shaped foam. The top, working, surface comprises a moulded plastic inverted tray, with a lip raised by about 5mm that covers about 3/4 of its width and stops the laptop sliding forward. Sometimes, if I think the laptop may benefit, I will rest the front edge of the laptop on the lip to raise it slightly and improve air-flow.Having tried three other broadly similar laptop lap rests/coolers of which two were Belkin, this is by far the most practical and effective. I believe that a smaller version may be (or was) available that is most suited for 12-15 inch netbooks and laptops.

Right I purchased this for use with my Dell 15 inch gaming laptop and i have to say it has come in very handy. First off let's describe the product the top is smooth and hard with a pink ridge at the front which does a good job of preventing the laptop from slipping off. The underside is padded and while the padding is not substantial it does make it comfortable enough for lap use while keeping the weight of the product to a minimum. Now my laptop is quite heavy and using with this product you still feel the weight but it does a good job of spreading the weight more evenly on the lap. Furthermore compared to using the laptop straight on your lap using with this pad gives the laptop a nice flat surface to allow the laptops cooling mechanism to work unobstructed. As I'm sure you all know one of the drawbacks of using a laptop on the bed or on the lap ls that the laptops vents are blocked resulting in temperatures soaring. This product (although it doesn't have any cooling system of its own) gives your laptop that crucial flat surface leaving the vents unobstructed allowing your laptops cooling system to work as intended. Heat is one of the main causes of premature laptop death and so for those of you who use your laptop on the bed or on your lap this is a necessity and will undoubtedly prolong the life of your laptop. Now having said this i would have liked to see a fan built into the mat as you see with other models out there this would have helped with cooling a lot as your laptop does still get warm even while using this. However the key is it does not get as hot as when your using the laptop straight on your lap or bed. For this reason I can recommend this product as not only does it provide added comfort but it does make a difference to laptop temps.Ps for the gentlemen out there it also provides a barrier between your lap and the laptop for those of you worried about any radiation effects! So in conclusion good price good comfort but would have liked a fan built in. However all in all for the price this is a must purchase. It gets 4.5 stars from me but Amazon won't let me give this so I'll round up to 5 instead.

I bought this to complement my new Acer Aspire d255 netbook, as I find that lounging back in my recliner chair even with this diminutive 10" netbook on my lap a bit of a hassle (moving your legs, constantly tilting the screen, etc.) & even the relatively small amount of heat emitted downwards by a netbook's fan, irritating. But primarily because I realised that because the Belkin Cushdesk was some 14 cm wider than my netbook, thus permitting me to use a sensitive wireless mouse (Logitech 510 wireless mouse) effortlessly on it to the right, rather than using the touchpad of the netbook (or the arm of my chair or the cat's back, as a mousemat). I'm not a fan of touchpads, & a Logitech 510 wireless mouse, with its tiny little 0.7cm dongle protruding from a USB port is an ideal complement to any notebook, btw, if you're as finnicky as me.The cat objected slightly to having her back used as a mousemat for obvious inter-species reasons, so she can now lie on the right arm of my chair without undue disturbance, so she too is more than happy with this Cushdesk. The pitch of the Cushdesk is ideal for a 10" netbook, it's comfy on your lap, the bar at the bottom prevents your netbook from sliding off, it dissipates the heat nicely, gives you a 14cm area to use a mouse on, left or right, is thickly cushioned underneath, lazy domestic cats approve of it, but is no good for resting a drink on whilst simultaneously surfing the net, as I've tried this. (Tip).I have no idea how good it is for a full-size 'laptop' notebook, but it suits me, and is also very good for resting a Kindle on one's lap whilst lying semi-horizontal & reading it, as we've also found.

I previously owned a Belkin cushtop and I was trying to find another one but it appears they no longer make them and instead the cushdesk has replaced it. I was really very dubious about the cushdesk as it seemed a slightly different design but I though lets give it ago as there really are not too many well made options out there.I was very pleasantly surprised by the cushdesk and I was told by an IT professional the cushdesk puts the laptop at a far better level for your arms than the the cushtop (was quite high up when placed on your lap). I spend hours on my laptop to the best part of a day most days and this item is comfortable, durable and very well made.I know previous owners have had issues with a Macbook sliding off the cushdesk, I have used it with both the Macbook Air and the standard Macbook and for me no such issues occurred. The cushdesk will take a wide variety sized laptops and will make some of the heavier ones feel a lot more easy on the old legs. I have used the item with it on my lap and on my legs whilst crossed on the floor and the laptop stays level and stable at all times. You can even used the cushdesk for writing on doing anything where you need a hard smooth surface.I would have no bones about recommending this item and my only request would be for belkin to make a lightly smaller version for say 11"-13" laptops as this seems a tad overkill for many laptops these days. Although if you have a mouse connected to your laptop it provides an excellent base alongside your laptop. If a second size was introduced I would gladly rate this item 5/5 because for me it just is that bit too large.

Having my own business, I work from home and much of the time in a reclining chair with a laptop on my lap. I was given a laptop platform about 6 years ago and it changed my life, the cushions went back on their chairs and the overheating stopped. Well, the Belkin F8N143 Portable Notebook Cushdesk has just changed my life again. The old laptop platform was mounted on a beanbag and over the years, the filling seems to have contracted so that the downward facing lip at the margin of the plastic had started to stick into my knee. I learned to give the item a shake before using, so that the "beans" would gather at one end to provide extra knee protection but wait a minute, this is a business expense, just get a new one. I looked at hundreds on Amazon but was impressed with the Belkin Cushdesk because it was not too big, it used foam rather than "beans" and it seemed to have a small group of devoted users. Well, it has another devoted user now.The Belkin Cushdesk is just so light that I do not notice it is there, a little over half the weight of the old platform. The foam provides an even pressure, with no chance of re-distributing itself. It feels robust and, contrary to reports in other reviews, the surface is NOT slippery and my 13.3 inch Dell laptop stays put, at normal reclining angles anyway. After barely a month of use I am hooked, I can find nothing about this item that I do not like.

I was expecting it to be a bit of a gimmick but it actually turned out to be great. It's the perfect size for my 15.6-inch Vaio which stays very stable due to the anti-slip slip. The side vents are kept completely clear so my laptop doesn't overheat and in fact seems to be cooler than usual with the cushdesk. The cushion bit is comfortable to have on your lap when in bed or sitting on a sofa and the wedge- shape creates a nice viewing angle. In fact, the viewing angle is so comfortable that I use with laptop on a desk as it really does reduce neck/back strain. The colour combination is quite good with a chocolate-coloured plastic top and a blue cushion bit.My only concern is that, in time, the plastic top that holds the laptop might become depressed in the middle altering the viewing angle and potentially covering up the cooling vents. I'd be happy to be proven wrong and will see how long it lasts.Overall, I'm actually very please with my purchase and would definitely recommend it for £11.99. I only regret not having bought one before!

I bought this lap desk as I've gotten rid of my actual desk. It came within days of ordering and is of a fine quality.I purchased the pink/black version. The top side is a leather-like texture and seems very durable. It has pink stitching to compliment the cushion underneath which is firm but not uncomfortable. It's plenty big enough for my laptop and could fit a bigger one onto it.Im able to write in an A4 notebook on this lap desk too. The colours are vibrant and the product looks durable and sturdy. My laptop makes a little blowing noise when left to run on my duvet. On this desk the noise is quieter so it helps with ventilation and the noise isn't as annoying! There is a pink bar at the bottom of the desk to prevent the laptop/books etc from slipping off. This seems to be made of rubber. If you haven't got a real desk to sit at, then I'd recommend to buy this product. It's handy. Slim to fit and store away places. It prevents my laptop from overheating and it looks pretty too.100% recommend.

I found myself wanting to in the living room or in the garden with my laptop but I was fed of having to all kinds of yoga-esk moves to get comfy. That is why I purchased one of these 'cushion desks' - it allows me to actually do work whilst on my laptop with minimal interference.I had been using a laptray prior so this has been a big upgrade. The product was slightly bigger than I was expecting, the top is a hard faux leather fabric that feels top quality. Quite smooth which may cause problems with sliding laptops.Bottom part is fairly firm, not alot of give. I would of probably have preferred bean filled but I appreciate this would have made the product less stylish.Looks wise this product ticks all the right boxes.I put a 3 out of 5 for value as you could find cheaper alternatives, this is certainly one of the best on the market but you could find a similar functioning one for a fraction of the price.Overall a good product, main use will be sitting outside in the garden.

I have been using this for a couple of days now and am very happy with it. I originally bought a powered pad but it turns out I have one of the few laptops on the market that blows hot air from vents in the middle of the base so the whole thing was useless. There is good and bad. First the good:- Quieter than a powered pad.- Does not affect the battery life of my laptop- Big enough to accommodate my 15.6" laptop with plenty of room to spare- Even after hours of use my skin is not blistering and my blood is not boiling from the heatNow the bad- The fans of my laptop do get a little noisier when I put it on the pad, but not much, I think the material of the pad amplifies the sound a bit- My lap does get a little warm, probably due to the material of the pad, not heat from the laptop. It's like putting a thick rug over on your legsI am only using Word, Excel and Outlook mostly so I am not pushing the laptop to its limits here but this pad does just what I want it to do.

You know when you buy a product and put it straight to use, it is good. This is exactly well almost exactly what I was looking for, we had kind of built a home made lap desk from a tray lol. The tray fell apart after a couple of years use so I thought I had better look for a new tray, but being amazon I thought, no I won't do that I will look for a desk that I can put on my lap and hey presto here it is! One fault... just to make it perfect, change the covering material so it is mouse friendly, but I will not complain as at last someone has made a product that allows me to sit in my armchair and use my mouse and keyboard, I just have to put a mousemat on top, no nasty desk chairs needed.I would upload a pic but I am sure no one wants to see me in my pj's lounging in my armchair whilst using a large screen Imac now do they. I hate to take a star off for the lack of mouse compatibility because it really is a great idea, but surely that is easily sorted.

I've never been troubled with a hot laptop since I moved from HP 3 years ago. What I wanted was something to secure the laptop on my knee. It is much larger than it looks in fact the pictures don't really do anything for it at all. My new laptop is a lovely piano shiny black so using this stand means I'm not grabbing hold of it all the time. It is extremely comfortable to use and means when I'm stretching about to grab my coffee it doesn't tilt onto the floor. In a nutshell I'm impressed with my new purchase.10 March 2015Well this little gem is still going strong, never any burnt knees, just can't get through and I am experiencing a hotter than usual laptop. It is still in great condition and I don't remember ever cleaning it,no stitching wearing thin or anything like that. I suspect some of these bad reviews must be a faulty product because I certainly don't recognition the comments.I would buy again in an instant if I lost it.

I've had this for a month now, for my Macbook Pro 15 inch laptop.I bought this for use on the sofa.Without it, the laptop would overheat easily as the air vents were smothered by either my legs, or the sofa (if I put it down). This lap desk is study, and has plenty of space for a 15 inch laptop, without feeling too big.The top is hard and smooth, and has a rubber lip at the edge closest to you to stop it sliding downwards. The bottom is a firm foam cushion, which keeps the laptop study, whilst being comfortable.Feels like quality materials were used.I now always reach for it before logging on.This would also come in useful for bedtime typing,or even writing on.Pros:- Sturdy- Quality looking/feeling product- Great size for a 15in laptop- ComfortableCons:- Although I think it's size is ideal, some may find it large if you have a small laptop (check the size first)Overall, very impressed, and I recommend it.

I bought this due to me originally using a cushioned tea tray as a mouse mat I could have on my lap for gaming on a laptop. My mouse wire kept getting snagged on the sharp corners so seeked alternative.I thought the top looked like leather, but it's a firm plastic surface which is perfect for my mouse. I use an optical mouse & it tracks perfectly for CS GO etc.I use half a controller to replace what's needed with the keyboard & rest the controller on the left side of the tray. My right hand has the mouse & I basically have a big mouse mat. Perfect. The firm cushion is high quality for what it is. Similar material to a car seat.No sharp corners for wires snagging.Overall the product is high quality & does what I need it to.I use it as a lap mouse mat, but would be good for laptop tray (obviously), drawing/reading tray, iPad tray etc.(Brown/Pink Tray)

My dad recently bought a laptop and had it resting on his broken leg. Which wasn't good for either his leg or the laptop as both got very warm and his cast got very itchy. So I bought this for him as an early xmas present as it was a reasonable price and big enough for his gaming laptop. I must say we're both really pleased with it. It's a shame it's pink as it's not the first choice of colour my dad would have wanted but it serves the purpose beautifully. The mat doesn't get too hot and the little grip at the front means you can tip your laptop upwards without fear of it falling flat ontop of you.And the cushion underneath was insulating as it kept the heat kicking out from the laptop away from my dad's broken leg and therefore his cast didn't get uncomfortable. And for £9.99 it couldn't have been better value for money. (Not to mention the free P&P)

Having read some of the feedback on this I was unsure about buying it. However, it arrived today, very quickly, & I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality. It is actually nicer than than I expected. It's a good quality surface, a neat well made cushion, a little deeper at the back which gives a helpful tilt to the keyboard. It's got a silicone ridge at the front to stop the PC sliding down. It was bought for my netbook, which is a little lost on it, but it does leave enough room for a mouse if I want to use one. My netbook doesn't get too hot, but the level surface keeps it cool. It will be great for my larger laptop. It's very light too, so will be great to take away in our motorhome. This is a good product at a great price, you could pay a lot more for it if you didn't surf for the price, but that's half the fun. Go for it!
