I was looking forward with great anticipation to this game and whilst I was slightly disappointed as there are a few let-downs, it can be immensely fun to play. There are 36 events in total, possibly the greatest number ever featured in an Olympics game, ranging from the good old track and field events such as the 100m and Javelin, to others of a more complicated/difficult nature such as 10m Platform Diving, the Canoe-Kayak-Slalom and Table Tennis. The graphics are beautifully detailed for the most part, although antialiasing (smoothing to prevent jagged texture edges) seems to have been missed out somewhere along the line. However, that aside, there is a great amount of detail and the animations of the athletes and officials in particular really capture the atmosphere of the Olympics. There are 3 game modes available, along with sub-game modes, and these are Training, Competition and Olympics. Training is precisely that and allows you to practice individual events with the aid of a visual tutorial before taking part in the latter modes. Competition allows you to select single and multiple event challenges to see who out of you and your friends, or competitors from further afield, has the stronger ability. Finally, the Olympics mode allows you to take your chosen country through the games, each day participating in new challenges to gain enough medals to take you to the top of the leaderboard. The best feature of this game, for me, is the ability to play online against multiple competitors from around the world, with results recorded on digital tables that allow you to see where your performance rates overall. Believe me when I say this capability makes the game highly addictive. However, there are some let-downs as previously mentioned. Firstly, the game requires a top-end pc to run it. The minimum processor speed supported is 2.4 ghz and the equivalent of a Nvidia 8800 is sure to count many potential buyers out.The game REQUIRES (not reccomends)the Xbox 360 controller for Windows. Forget using anything else. The keyboard controls do not fulfil all the in-game operations and if you do use an alternative controller, like I did, you will find that the operations do not relate to your controller and you will not be able to undertake all the events. Some of the event controls are complicated to master and you may find yourself not undertaking a few because of this.A few other niggles are that the graphics could be smoother, despite still being the best seen in any Olympics game and you cannot change your in game name, which is irritating. All in all however, the game is good and is sure to give you repetive strain injuries once you are addicted to the online game modes. I gave the game 4 stars because 3.5 is not available and 3 is not quite enough. If you have the system requirements, are willing to splash out on the Xbox for Windows controller and have a fast internet connection, then get this game.Richard

Im sorry to say that this game is not a lazy port. its games for windows, that uses by default xbox 360 style controllers. And the only reason that the controls change for almnost every event is to keep the game interesting. if it was all done by 3 or 4 buttons, game would get pritty boring very fast. And im glad that it has the same aspects as the old International Track & Field. on PS1. Still can tap those buttons super fast.Already broke the Olympic record on Javelin, Swimming 100m backstroke, High Jump, Triple Jump. My mate broke the 100m sprint OR. This game rules.Yes its a bit hard. but then so is the people you play against. good in single player, but better with 2 xbox 360 controllers and a mate next to ya lol.Good Fun.Good Competition.Note: this does have a moderate learning curve for the buttons. There are many combonations for each event to remember. But there is a tutorial before each event starts, if you want to watch it.Good luck people. I Wanna see some WR's Broke lol

You need a high spec computer to load this game with fast processor speed and good graphic cards but it is worthwhile as it is a challenging game with many events which require skill to progress. Points awarded are based on your finishing position in competition and bonus points for good performance. These points can be used to reduce fatigue or add to speed, accuracy etc. An Xbox controller for windows is recommended so you don't have to use the keyboard which can become very complicated.
