Beco Ball - Medium size in GREENAs soon as I took this out of the packet my 2 dogs loved it! What I particularly like, is that it is suitable to play with indoors. It is a lightweight, non-solid ball and so less likely to cause any damage if it bounces too high or off the nose of the dogs. It does not mark the walls either! On hard ground, either inside or out, because it is slightly knobbley I found that it bounces in a slightly random way to keep the dog alert. It does not necessarily hit the ground then bounce straight upwards. resulting in more fun for your dog.It is a very lightweight ball, so should not prove difficult for the more gentle dogs to pick up and play with. The Manufacturer states it is non-toxic, however I would not want my dogs to chew on it in any event. I would not leave them alone with it, but then that is true of most toys. In addition to the safety factor, dogs enjoy the human interaction with their toys and that is what helps us humans to build a loving bond with our pets. As I understand it, in being 'non-toxic' it will not harm the dog if little bits are swallowed, but I would still rather not risk it.Outdoors the Beco Ball can be used with the now popular chucka/flinger ball throwing devices as it is more or less the same size as a tennis ball. Remember though, that being light in weight, these Beco Balls can go 'off course' in the wind. So, be aware where you are throwing it, that it does not go into a deep river, pond, lake or on to the road, because a ball loving dog will most likely go after it wherever the ball lands. The info card that the ball is attached to says it is 'vanilla scented'. I don't really think it is, but anyway cannot see any advantage, as you would not want your dog to be tempted to eat it because it had a foody smell. When thrown high, it does have a sound as it flies. It is a sort of an owl sound rather than a whistle, but is not very loud at all. Again, I do not see the point, but I suppose it might catch the attention of a dog that is perhaps not used to playing and needs encouragement.Being a lightweight toy that is squashy rather than a solid style ball, makes it easy to pop in a bag or your pocket to take out on walks. It is also light and comfortable for a small child to throw for their pet. It could also be a good toy for your cat in the small or medium sizes. This ball is unusual in that it has an intentional hole in it! Why, what for? Well because it could have some dried dog food kibble or little treats put into it and then doubles up as an interactive feeder with the animal having to push, prod and nudge it to get the food out!Is the Beco Ball suitable for all breeds? I am not too sure. I think the very strong mouthed breeds (eg Bull breed types, Labrador, Great Dane, Akita, the Shar Pei and similar) would most likely need a much harder rubber ball. However, each owner knows the traits and actions of their own dogs, so it is not really for me to judge. Mind you the tennis balls you buy in the pet shops are not very strong and in any event a determined toy destroying dog will rip up anything!!Both of my rescue dogs loved it and as dog toys go, I find the price to be very reasonable. Overall I recommend it and certainly love it for my dogs.

This is advertised as being eco-friendly and this was part of the appeal for me. It is made from rice husk rubber and is, therefore, non-toxic and completely safe for your dog. This is important if your dog is destructive and inclined to chew up its toys. It is advertised as being vanilla scented but I must admit that I could not smell this, though perhaps a dog, with its powerful sense of smell will smell the vanilla. The ball is also supposed to whistle as it flies. I have not heard this, but perhaps it only whistles if you throw it a distance. So far we have kept the ball indoors so it is only being thrown a short distance. My dog loves balls and we usually buys tennis balls for her,but she does appear to enjoy playing with this just as much as the tennis balls. This ball is also safer for playing indoors as it is lightweight and quite soft so is less likley to cause damage if it hits something. I must admit when I first saw the ball I thought it would only last 5 minutes so I am pleasantly surprised that it is still undamaged after a couple of weeks especially as my dog has been playing with it every day. The ball looks just like a normal rubber ball, but it is hollow with a hole in it, presumably so that you can put treats in it. The rubber is thin on the side where the hole is but heavier at the other end. I imagine that it will be soft and comfortable in the dog's mouth and the medium size was a good size for my dog (border collie/ lurcher cross). The ball is more expensive than tennis balls so whether I buy it again depends on how long it lasts. If it lasts a reasonable period of time then I will buy it again but as at present I will confine it for play indoors and will continue to buy tennis balls for outdoor play. My dog is normally walked in nearby woods and regularly loses tennis balls there, and I wouldn't want to lose this more expensive beco ball. If your dog is inclined to chew up its toys then this ball would not be suitable, again because of its cost. However, if your dog is not destructive then this is worth trying. If the ball lasts for a reasonable period of time then I would award it 5 stars.

Thought this would be great fun to take with me when I go dog sitting. Gave it to one of my charges to road test to see what he thought of it. He is an older dog (a labrador), so his attention span for anything that isn't food, or other dogs' pee-mails, is limited but he seemed to enjoy running about after it and gave it a good chew. He seemed to like the texture of it and did not seem bothered either way regarding the vanilla scent. Not really sure what the objective was giving it a scent - specially vanilla. Now if it smelled like bacon, I could understand the logic...From my point of view I did think the vanilla thing was weird - it actually smells very strongly of rubber (which is, after all, what it's made of) with vanilla overtones. It is kind of weird and knobbly looking, in an organic kind of way, and the thickness of the rubber varies, so the knobbly effect reflects the actual thickness of the rubber. Not sure if this is to make it look natural and interesting or just an artefact of the manufacturing process - and I wonder if this will mean it is not as hardy as something with more uniform thickness. It has a hole in it so it is not a sealed unit like a tennis ball. You could put treats inside it and have a bit of fun with your dog so it is quite a useful design feature. You can see the flecks from the rice husks but I can't really say what difference their presence makes to the ball. And I clearly am not good enough at throwing to make it whistle, so I can't report on that! It is good that it's made of natural products - rubber and rice husks - which should mean that if any of it gets eaten, there ought to be no nasty consequences. All in all it seems like a nice little ball and it will now be part of my dog-sitting kit.

(Review updated. After some three months the younger of our two Springers managed to tear the ball when he got over-excited. I'd expect a £5 product to last a bit longer than this, so a star is deducted.)The Beco Ball is a hollowed out lightweight rubber retrieval ball for dogs. I received a medium sized pistachio green (not blue, as shown) rubber ball, an ideal size for our Springers. It's a ball designed to be thrown for retrieval, it doesn't bounce too well. Although it rebounds from hard surfaces, the rebound is a bit erratic. This is probably due to the uneven, slightly lumpy surface that makes for an erratic course when it rolls as well. The green colour doesn't make it quite so easy to find the ball on walks,I feel, but it's still a light enough shade to distinguish it from grass. The circular hole at the base of the ball makes a low pitched sound when the ball is thrown hard - just like blowing across the top of a bottle. It has to be thrown with some force for this to be heard, but it does indeed 'whistle as it flies' as the packaging claims.Labelled as being 'vanilla scented', there was a faint scent of vanilla from the ball, alongside the usual rubbery smell.Composition is described as being of 'rice husk rubber'. I had never heard of this so did a bit of online research.Rice husks do not produce rubber, but rice husk ash silica, which would otherwise go to landfill after rice husks are burned for electricity, is added to rubber to improve its durability; rice husk ash silica is also used by Goodyear for their tyres, for example. It's toy with a bit of extra novelty, eco-friendly packaging and British design. The dogs liked it, which is all that matters.

I had great fun throwing this ball around with my friend's dog, a minature Yorkshire terrier. The ball bounces unpredictably, so the dog never knows what direction it'll veer off in. The Beco Ball was an instant hit and, month's later, it is still the dog's favourite. The ball is safe to chew and, so far, indestructible. The medium ball is 6.5cm (small is 5cm, large is 7.5cm and extra large 8.5cm). I was surprised it fit her mouth so well as she's a really small dog but it does. Perhaps it's because the ball is so light that she's comfortable carrying it around in her mouth when not bringing it to be thrown or chasing after it.Two slight downsides.First is the hole where treats can be put to to put your finger or thumb in to pick the ball up means the ball makes it a perfect receptacle for drool - yum! Second, as it's a pale colour, if I throw it a long way in a field of grass then lose sight of it, it's not immediately obvious where it is.Beco Things is a new company focusing on affordable, non-toxic eco-friendly products designed in Britain (Beco / eco - geddit?). The BecoPets ball is on sale at my local pet shop together with a broad range of BecoThings cat and dog toys and accessories under the categorie fetch, eat, poop and sleep. There's also a BecoBabies range of baby products (potties, feeding sets) (not on sale at my local pet shop!).

This has become in a very short time, a favourite with our dogs, I am not sure that we have given it a 'fair' trial, a feisty fourteen year old Jack Russell and a large Rottweiler between them have loved it almost to death in four days. Despite its present state it is still being thrown around and chased and I am not bothered if bits get chewed and eaten since the thing is not toxic and it is played with under supervision. It no longer 'whistles' when thrown - but it did, an underarm throw was all that was needed to produced a noise, and it bounced all over the place in unpredictable directions which added to its obvious enjoyment. The reason I feel our test was not quite fair is that the two of them did use it for tugging competitions and a Jack Russell was often seen suspended on the bottom half with a Rotty taking the top half for a stroll around the garden. so I will purchase the large one, (the test ball is a medium) to see if it lasts any longer. It hasn't lasted like the Kong range does, - I think the next day will see it out completely - but then its played with a great deal more. I will add to this after I have tried and compared the large size.

Dog toys nowadays can be very expensive. This is one I consider reasonably priced in comparison to other toys on Amazon, but very expensive when you compare it to buying a cheap tennis ball. However, what you're buying (or more accurately, buying into) here is the environmentally friendly characteristics and general eco-friendly ethos of the brand, which is something you have to take for granted. But as well as that there are some features that will prove popular. What I personally liked about this hollow ball, which in my case is the medium size, was that for my small dog who has a small jaw, it nonetheless proved well-designed enough for him to pick it up in his mouth due to its squashy form and yet it threw like a normal ball,so a perfect compromise. The real test will be whether it lasts over time, which will only (obviously) be apparent over time. Dog toys do degrade and and get damaged and break over time, but if the material of this ball proves so flimsy it can't take some light chewing, for the current price of £4-5 I wouldn't be replacing it with another.I guess time will tell, but on the evidence of a few days use it's recommended.

Have had this ball for a few days now, and am very impressed by it! Usually, our Basset Hound finds a way to destroy any ball that we get for her within hours (minutes sometimes!) but she has not been able to wreck the Eco friendly Medium Beco Ball so far! It doesn't look too sturdy, having an indentation in it (a hole that goes part way through) and it is a little oddly-shaped - not exactly round - and it is quite flexible to the touch, but it clearly IS sturdy, as Dolly has not stopped playing with it/chewing on it, and hasn't been able to damage it at all!! If you throw it hard enough and far enough, it does emit a whistling-type noise, which really intrigued Dolly, sending her chasing after it madly, but she's equally content just to carry it round in her mouth, and then drop it into her basket! The fact that it is made from non-toxic, eco-friendly rice husk rubber is a definite bonus - it's good to know that nothing chemical or nasty will be getting into her system if Dolly DOES manage to chew it up. I would be happy to check out other products in the range on the strength of this, and am happy to recommend.

The Beco Ball is designed to be a healthy and safe toy for your dog. It is made from natural rubber and rice husk fibres. It is non-toxic and can be safely chewed by your dog.I received the blue medium sized ball which proved to be the approximate size of a tennis ball. When I first felt the Beco Ball my immediate thought was that this wouldn't last five minutes with our Jack Russell Terrier who manages to chew through even the most robust of toys in next to no time. The Beco Ball feels soft, flexible and rubbery and smells of vanilla. The ball does not look very strong as it is a hollow ball with a fairly thin skin. How wrong I was ...Our Jack Russell immediately took to the ball and after halfan hour of playing catch and then trying to roll on it which I assume was an attempt to add her scent to the ball to mask the vanilla scent, she sat down with her new Beco Ball between her front paws ready for a good old chew. That was seven days ago and she still hasn't managed to damage the ball. It has now become the favourite of all her toys.Result.

This was a hit with my dog as soon as we got it out the packet. He's quite fond of rubbery squishy things, and likes to chew on them so they make an annoying squeaking sound. This ball is no exception and so far he's had great fun making revolting slobbery noises with it. It bounces, and is fun to chase about, but thankfully is not so heavy that a mis-aimed throw in the house results in broken household items (as has previously happened with rubber dog balls!) The ball is hollow inside, and the medium version is ideal for hiding small amounts of dog kibble in for a few minutes of fun. My only reservation is that it doesn't feel like it will last that long with my guy,who is a power chewer - but then toys very often don't, so that doesn't mean much, and only time will tell!I like that the ball is made out of eco friendly non-toxic materials, and it had a faint pleasant smell for about five seconds before dogbreath got hold of it and covered it in stinky slobber. Now it's as revolting and hairy as all his other toys, which is just the way he likes it!

When I first got this, I'll admit I wasn't that impressed. It looks like one of my other dog balls, once my English Toy Terrier has destroyed the squeaker!! It's lumpy, has a hole in, and in all honesty I really didn't think my dog would bother with it at all.I'm happy to be wrong! She loves it! She's been carrying it about and chasing it inside quite a lot really - its a good inside ball, because it is light enough not to cause any damage. The hole is just the right size to put a good treat in, and not fall out immediately, thus puzzling the pup! (Harrington's Salmon Rolls are perfect for this!)It's also soft enough that even my tiny doggie can get her jaws around it and carry it about quite happily, and as it seems to be digestible, I'm not worried if she does trash it. That said, it seems fairly indestructible at this point! It bounces quite strangely, and makes a nice noise as it bounces too, and this might be part of the attraction for my dog. I don't know if it does smell good to her, but it didn't smell particularly special to me!

The Eco Friendly Medium Beco Ball is a great little ball and the main reason I like it is that my dog cannot bust it as there is already a handy little hole which the makers have cleverly put in to prevent any busting plus my dog seems to use it as something to grip with its teeth. I like the fact that the ball is Eco friendly as my dogs seems to love to have a good chew before just to check there is nothing eatable inside. The fact it does not bounce is a bit of a downer as my dog has a game where I bounce the ball and she catches it unfortunately with this little ball this game cannot be played.I do believe this a ball which might suit some dogs while others who like to have a noise etc.to play with it definitely will not suit.My main 'like' for this ball is that my dog cannot bust it, but for me I do believe there are better toys out there for our four legged friends but it truly depends on your own dog whether or not they like a ball which really is good for one thing and that is a game of 'fetch'.

It's just turned out to be another ball that my dog is happy to ignore... until you stuff it full of treats and then of course there's nothing else he wants more. But the hole is big so getting the treats is not much of a challenge for him.The negatives are that it doesn't smell of vanilla and I can't say I've heard a whistle. Judging from the other comments, it's probably time they took these two things out of their marketing material. The positives are that it's soft and squishy and seems well constructed. As it's an eco toy, I was expecting it to be more fragile but it has held its own through all the chomping he's done on it so far to get his treats out.As far as balls go, he has no interest in this one.And as far as treat balls go, I prefer the Trixie maze ball which keeps him occupied for longer. It would have got 3 stars. I gave it an extra one because of it's good eco credentials.

I love it and so does Murphy. Quite possibly the first toy in 5 yrs to have lasted more than 48 hrs! I have bought so many dog balls and toys that have made claims of robustness … and failed quite dismally. Not the Beco Ball. Since it arrived our dog (3 yrs old Springer cross) has had hours and hours of fun with his Beco Ball. I am astonished and relieved. It is quite soft and with a huge hole in it (deliberately!!) I thought it would go the same dismal way as previous purchases. However it looks as good as new and is still No 1 favourite with the hound. Even one of our cats had a quick roll and tumble with it. Not sure about the vanilla smell. Still smells a bit rubbery - but not a problem. For me and Murphy - it has been the quality and sturdiness of this toy that has come up trumps. hooorah. Thinking of buying another medium and a large too.

Murphy is five months old and his current favourite is a squeaky rubber Alfred Chicken (that was a computer game years ago) but it looks like that favourite toy has been usurped by a new kid on the block. A green rubber ball. A green hollow ball with a hole in it that is made from natural rice husk rubber (no, me neither). Not only that, it whistles when you throw it. Actually it doesn't, but that's what it's supposed to do. Not that the dog cares; he just runs around with it in his mouth and chases after it and brings it back. It's quite amusing putting treats in it and watching him get more annoyed when he can't figure out how to remove them. What he has learnt to do is nudge it so it rolls for him to jump on.Again and again and again and again... It seems sturdy enough, so far.Is it worth it? He thinks it is, and that's all that counts.
