>>I didn't rate Call of duty Modern Warfare 2 very highly, but for those of you out there who had bought that game and loved it, it may be time to make room for this on your shelfs. We couldn't have known that mere months after the release of call of duty MW2 a better game was to be released. Now I say better game but it really depends on opinion so I can't really compare the two together. MW2 was, for many, the king of twitch gaming (finger on trigger, die every five seconds gaming) and this is the king of teamwork gaming. Before this there was really no teamwork based online but now, with BFBC2 out this could easily spark a flare in this online genre and we could see other game developers following this lead shortly.I don't know what the online for Halo Reach will be like, but I do know that the same people who worked on the online for this are also working on EA's Medal of Honor online.>>The campaign is the least attractive thing about this game. After playing through I thought that if they could make such great online then why not a campaign to top it?The campaign is enjoyable to play through, but after having a taste of that scrumptous online I found myself always wondering back onto the menu and playing a game of Rush. There isn't much to this game but I did think that because it only had the two things, campaign and online, that they would have put even ammounts of into each. But when taken an overall look upon, the campaign isn't really needed. It is fun but it feels like an afterthought, that really, without it, the game would still stand tall. But without the campaign it would lack a the certain Bad Company charm of the characters. They aren't as annoying as they were in the original and it is always enjoyable to listen in to some of the banter between them. Their AI still doesn't seem as good as the enemys though, something I did find in the original and I will often finish off some ememiesthen go ahead towards the next section, only to find that my men haven't budged. This isn't a constantproblem, it occured often enough to make me wonder about the campaign. The ememies AI on the other hand is still top notch, which is a bit unfortunate as there are, sometimes, alot of people to handle. Put his together with not as good teammate AI and you may see the problem here. This isn't a major problem, it wasn't for me and it won't be for many others, but they could have at least fixed it. Those problems though are over ridden by the amazing visuals. Everywhere you go the landscapes are incredibly well done. And if you think of this with the Frostbite destruction engine, then you can have a hell of alot of fun. I didn't find the urge, as other people did, to stay around and destroy stuff, just make some tall buildings crumble really. But, of course, one of the great ways to cause damage is by using vehicles, and my gosh are there vehicles. I don't tend to side with a game or hate it and stay like that, but in this aspect the game has no flaws. THe vehicles range from: Quad bike, tanks, hummers, boats, helicopters and more. All are availble throughout online and campaign.>>Where the game is hard in online especially is staying alive. II can deal with some good AI ememies but when pitted against a load of real people online, things get pretty hard. That is why this game is so amazing. If you go alone, you will die. Stick together is what this game is saying, work as a team, if someone die, revive them, if a tank needs fixing fix it, if there is room in a tank take it. And it works like something i've never seen before. Teamwork is what his game is about and you'll get it from the moment you join an online game, so long as you are working as a team. But like I said before, dying is something that you have to adapt to and work around in BFBC2. You'll die alot at first, a hell of alot, but after a week of playing it you will have become good enough to avoid death that often. The best thing about BFBC2 is the fact that you are no use to your teammates dead.>>Online is a strange affair. If you are defending M-Coms in Rush, then the best thing to do is set up defensive positions, if you are attacking then grab a Hummer. Use tactics. Of course we can't assume everyone plays byt eh rules. There are a few gamers treating it like Call of duty, but they die quickly enough. But these gamers aside, the online is so fresh it is hard to describe. Of course it borrows alot from CoD. Specalisations remind you of perks, because, well they are. These Perks are quite the same, but with vehicle ones added on aswell, making more to have to unlock.>>The weapons here are actually very different from COD. The weapons themselves are different but you have access to all of them when you die. Choosing what weapons you want is a much better affair here than in MW2 as it gives you access to all of them, rather than just one you might do in Custom classes (which i'm glad to see BFBC2 hasn't taken off of MW2. I clouldn't face anymore classes). It is easy, fast and fun to do and everything can be changed for you. I nstead of having custom classes BFBC2 gives you all of the weapons, primary, sidearm gadget, then asks you what you would like to have as each. EG: you could choose to have an AK-47 like weapon as primary, M9 as secondary and an RPG as a gadget. And the next time you go onto online, it will be laid out just how you left it. So what BFBC2 have done, is let you do smaller versions of custom classes, but will all of the weapons there. It amy sound weird but if you buy this game you will understand what I am talking about. This works really well and makes playing with weaponds much easier than in the Call of duty series.>>Campers are something that bothered MW2 alot and something that needs to be sorted out. Luckily campers are not so much of an issue with BFBC2. I wouldn't say they are not an issue at all but are very much toned down to say the least. This is great and the main cause of death now is being shot by a man with a Assault rifle.>>Everything about online is amazingly well done and will leave you wanting more evertime you turn off you r console. It will often feel like a scripted campaign piece when you are going along in a tank with 2 other tanks in front of you. This gives a real sense of war rather than just some people shooting eachother like in call of duty. This game has a few faults, like mentioned above with the AI, but all of these occur in Campaign only and leave online with nothing but brilliantness. This game is the best in the Genre of Teamwork gaming, just as, not for me but for many, MW2 is the best in Twitch gaming. For me though World at war is the best in twitch gaming and MW2 comes second.I Love:The teamworkClasses made easierReviving is a big thing in this gameVehiclesDestructionI Hate:Not so good Teammate AICampaign could have been betterWorse than: Nothing in this Genre.Better than: Call of duty: Modern Wafare 2/Battlefield bad companyI recommend: ThisVERDICT:An absolutely amazing game online, although the campaign feels like an after thought.Graphics: Amazing, very good. 9/10Sound: Beats even MW2's. Stunning! 9.7/10Campaign: Fun, but feels like a bit of a bore after trying out online. 7/10Online: What makes the game, truly, truly amazing! 9.8/10

Battlefield Bad Company 2 ReviewSingle Player:-Gameplay:BC2 has a very solid and memorable single player campaign that is quite different from the original game in numerous ways. Firstly, the SP maps are considerably more linear than BC1's expansive maps, with only a handful of open 'arenas' per mission. Whilst I was initially skeptical of a BC game with increased linearity, the change generally increases tension and ensures the player remains focussed and immersed. In contrast, while I enjoyed the open world sand box of the original, I did often find motivation to complete the mission lacking or get bored of dying and having to drive a long distance as the checkpoints were occasionally unevenly spread. The missions in BC2 are varied, usually just hard enough to be a challenge but not too hard as to be a challenge, with the usually excellent AI putting up a good fight. The campaign itself is a decent length unlike another recent competitor, and the storyline is more interesting, easier to follow, and makes more sense than said competitor. But even with a good story and focussed gameplay, this game wouldn't be complete without the old squad, Haggard, Sweetwater, Redford, Preston and a couple of amusing new characters along the way. These guys complete the game. Haggard and Sweets' banter is always amusing with Redfords harsh put downs always bringing a smile. The conversations they have while idle are as funny if not funnier than some of the scripted material, for example one conversationbetween the squad about 50 Cent is particularly funny. In my opinion, no other FPS game of recent times quite mixes the humour, storyline and ferocity of combat quite as well as BC2. When I completed BC1 for the first time I remember thinking that it was a good game that only just missed out on greatness due to a few small faults. DICE have however improved on and subsequently surpassed themselves with BC2, I'd therefore give BC2:SP ~9/10Multiplayer:Invade nobody noticed there has been another game released recently that's been proclaimed the 'largest entertainment release in history' that has sold however many millions of copies and is also based on modern warfare. This game was good, it was pretty fast paced, poorly balanced with 'noobs' getting a lot of unnecessary kit and experienced players grabbing double barrelled shotguns and sprinting round and round the map one-shot-killing every player in their way, racking up a massive 'killstreak' and then nuking everything. I prestiged on this game and played nearly three days online before I realised that it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. I'd been fooled by the massive hype and the number of friends that played. It wasn't about 'modern warfare' it was about a few tooled up players killing as many people as they could as fast as they could. Then along comes BC2. It had a tiny fraction of the publicity the other game had, and unless I missed something, hardly any of the over-hyped craziness either. Ibought the game because of it's online, and because I hoped it would show the other game up as the singleminded and occasionally dull multiplayer experience it is.BC2's online multiplayer is like nothing I've had the pleasure of experiencing on the 360 before. The first map I saw was Valparaiso, a south American themed map with a low sun streaming through the jungle. At first glance I thought a developer had produced a game that graphically rivalled the great Crysis. A recently destroyed tank spewing black smoke at the entrance to a shanty town and a blackhawk circling above with it's gunners tearing houses apart. The gameplay itself ranges from brutally fast paced (some urban and CQ jungle maps) to a steady advance with snipers, machine gunners and heavy vehicles (desert and jungle maps). However, most maps combine these elements. Some start with an armoured vehicular assault by land sea or air, while others involved parachuting into forests at night, followed by blistering fights in streets and then a final infantry assault on an enemy postion. This is of course when playing Rush mode, first introduced in the original BC. This mode is usually fun and well balanced, with the occasional round where either due to an exceptionally good enemy team or a particularly weak allied team means the enemy start sniping you not long after spawn, however, this is a problem with all online games that are not scripted in any way. These situations however are few and far between and DICE seem to have made an effort to ensure camping does not occur too often. Conquest mode allows an all round battle, in contrast to Rushes headlong assault. It usually means every structure on the map will be levelled and a forest will turn to a patch of dirt by the time tanks mortar strike and rocket launcher carrying infantry have finished with it. By the end of the round, it really makes you feel like you've been in a battle, on a battlefield. And it doesn't stop there. As you progress through the ranks you gain new weapons and gadgets, be they vehicle improvements (armour, secondary weapons etc) or scopes, skills or extra ammo for your soldier, the game constantly rewards you for your efforts, whilst not giving new players previously mentioned unnecessary help or experienced players uber powerful unstoppable weapons. Finally, BC2:MP is far more diverse, better looking, entertaining and there is nothing quite like crushing a squad of enemies in a collapsing building. BC2:MP ~9.5/10.Conclusion:Great single player with Likeable characters.Superb graphics.Lengthy campaign (~10hrs on normal)Incredible multiplayer experience.Any fan of online fps should not miss this game.

I haven't really done much with the singleplayer mode so will focus on the multiplayer side of this game. I've played a lot of COD and was hearing good things about BC2 so decided to give it a go.Firstly it's vastly different from COD in so many ways. Where as COD features a lot of CQB this is not so much the case in BC2 due to the large map size. In COD it is relatively easy to 'learn' the maps and to roughly predict where people will be especially in certain game modes. In BC2 it is not so easy. In fact knowing where people are in BC2 relies a lot on team work as you 'spot' the enemy for each other as opposed to getting a UAV to do it all for you.Teamwork is a strong theme in this game which is one of it's great strengths but also it's great weakness. In COD you have a lot of diversity for your classes meaning you do not have to necessarily rely on anyone else. In BC2 the classes are alot more limited and you really do. For example want to snipe on BC2? Fine but you are going to struggle for more ammo unless someone happens to be using the assault class and is kind enough to give you some, fine if you are playing with friends, but in the trash talking world of Xbox-live it can be difficult to find cooperative team-mates if you are alone. In fact BC2 limits you to 4 classes, Assault with assault rifle, grenade launcher and ammo boxes to give out. Engineer, sub machine gun silenced, with rocket launcher or mines, and the ability to repair tanks etc. Medic with LMG and health packs as well as the ability to revive recently killed team mates, and recon, sniper rifle, with motion sensor mines and C4/ motar strikes. There are a few variations for each class but the core attributes are largely the same. Whilst these restrictions do balence things quite nicely I find it a bit too restrictive especially when you don't have anyone prepared to back you up as mentioned earlier. The guns themselves seem to handle alot more realistically than those in COD, you get a lot more kickback and it can be difficult to keep your aim on a target, which can be frustrating in core mode given the number of bullets you seem to need to hit someone with, they also don't look quite as polished graphically as those in COD. There are unlocks which give you steadier aiming and increased bullet damage but you have to play for ages to get them and where as in COD say stopping power would apply to any class you set up in BC2 you unlock stuff class by class. i.e extra bullet damage has to be unlocked seperately for each of the 4 classes, in other words it takes ages to level up the playing field in BC2 and therefore does not make the game as accessible as COD.I'm also finding general movement a little awkward in BC2. In COD everthing moves smoothly and well, but in BC2 I just can't seem to pinpoint a sensitivity that I am happy with and sometimes movement can seem a little unresponsive, climbing through windows is also fiddly to say the least although if your class permits you can simply blow a hole in the wall instead!! Sniping is another case in point. In COD you hold your breath and can fine tune your aim, in BC2 it's the same movement speed which can make it difficult to hit a moving target, however the factor of bullet drop over greater range makes for nice realism. The destructable environment is a reaaly big plus in this game and gives a stunning sense of realism and I also like the way the sound is different if you fire from an enclosed space, and your aim will also be effected by nearby explosions, great attention to detail!Game modes are severly limited in BC2, there is essentially just Team death match, Conquest (like COD's domination) and Rush (kind of like sabotage). The problem with the BC2 game modes come when you are alone and you have only your base to spawn in because invariably you will get someone on the other team spawn killing. In fact I find the whole spawn system the most frustrating aspect of this game. You can be attacking a base and see one person and all of a sudden there will be another 3 appear next to him just as you run out of ammo. Spawn killing is as already mentioned a problem that crops up and really ruins the game for me, this is particularly a problem in hardcore mode where you can't see where they are (no 'killcam') and you cannot spot them for everyone, you have to rely (and here's the problem) on vocal communication.More problems abound when it comes to setting up a private match with friends in that you must have a minimum of 8 people, this also prevents you from exploring the new maps alone to get a feel for them (something I liked to do on COD) and from also practising controlling the tanks & helicopters the latter would be handy because they are difficult to get used to flying. One last nice feature to mention is the stats, detailed for each weapon, just about everything you use and the best of all dogtags!! Kill someone with your knife and you take their dogtags all of which is stored on your stats so you can see a nice list of all those who you have humiliated! A great touch to the game!!So in summary if you are a causal, occasional gamer and mostly play alone you are probably going to get on better with COD as it's easier to master and much more accesible, if you are a hardcore gaming fanatic who likes a challenge and who is always on-line with your friends then you are going to get so much more from BC2.

REVISED 11/Mar/2010Well i got this wednesday, and so ive had several hours at the games campaign (offline) mode.OFFLINE----------------First thing first, the graphics and sound in this game, have got to be one the finest out there, even better than mw2. The landscapes are so impressive, they almost look photorealistic!! The snowscape and jungle levels are so beautiful to look at sometimes youre think your watching a movie rather than game!> (the gfx are reminiscent of uncharted imo)The sound is equally impressive, the weapons sound powerful and it almost gives you a sense of pleasure pressing the trigger. Explosions almost knock you out of your seat especially when you start toppling houses!!The actual game story is more like cod this time around,it seems more linear, and the story seems a bit more whole than , cods one minute your him than your him, sorta thing. The AI both enemy and friendlies are pretty good, the only thing that got me is sometimes your friendlies would go off onto an objective and start killing the enemy before i got there. This would happen when i would be searching an area for weapons or collectibles, and they would bugger off, and can be annoying but obviously not major. The checkpoints are spaced nicely but not too hard or too easy. The inclusion of regenerating health is much needed and so much better than finding health packs. The controls are nice and smooth, and dont feel clunky. The thing which i think stands out over mw2, is the destructible environments, its brilliant! See an enemy dug in, give the area some firepower, or topple whats around him on him. I seem to remember in the first BF, the enemy would still be standing there, even though the house came down on top of him. Now in this one, they will certainly die, just as long as you have the firepower.**i started on hard and would recommend any experienced fps gamer to start on. To me it offered a more realistic war setting, and increasing the length of the campaign and made covering crucial.**The enemy Ai are average for AI (hard level) i suppose, but i feel they could be little more like "cods veteran AI", but then again that was sometimes frustrating as hell, at least BF2 is enjoyable on its hard setting. Having said that on hard u do seem to get shot when u think no one can see you, its like "how the hell did u see me there!!". Theres not really much else to say about the campaign, apart from the collecting weapons, which is a nice feature to give u incentive to search, but the map almost indicates where the weapons are anyway. The small sections in the game, when your riding in a vehicle (shooting from a heli/tank etc) are very similar to cod, but when the environment is destructible, this seems more authentic and engaging then mw2!!ONLINE----------------Ive played one game online, and this is not MW2 run n gun n jump style gameplay, you have to have teamwork and strategy to succeed, noobs beware lol!!I felt that as ive played more games online, i wanted to update my review one last time to give my full honest opinion. As i said above, this is no run n gun like m2, you have to stick in a team, no lone wolf rambo style gameplay here to survive long. Conquest mode i beleive is the core online mode, the battles/gunfights ive witnessed playing this mode is unbelievable. One instance me and a few of my squad in a house, were having a intense shootout with the enemy team in the house across the street. It was great and felt like a war movie, and felt realistic (not that ive been to war). We were just fighting for that little bit of ground to achieve our mission. None of that arcade garbage thats modern warfare, Battlefield is the proper modern warfare!!!! The explosions/firefights and tank battles to be had are jawdropping, this is seriously intense online.A few things that did bug me was the fact that there is no prone/lying position for your soldier (important for sniping imo). Also sometimes the knife swipe, is not so accurate. Ive had a few times when im dancing with an enemy just trying to knife eachother, you have to be almost on top of them to reach them. Also the sniper class is unbalanced and commonly used....!! Having said that with the small niggles, my final word online is bloody awesome, this is modern warfare how its meant to be. END OF!CONCLUSION----------------Im sorry that ive compared it to MW so much, but i feel thats the best way to review this game, as it looks like DICE are trying to take CODS mantle! For me this game is slap bang between Operation:flashpoint and modern warfare 2. It has the accessibility of mw2 and has its fair share of set pieces and action, but it also shares that authenticity that OFP has, without a maybe too simulated feel. It is also in my opinion the best of them!!The way i look at it , MW2 is for children, battlefield 2 is for the adults.Dan

Ok well I will be honest. Gold rush kept me entertained for ages. I prefered it to cod 4 online as it was more imersive and in my mind at the time had a better community i.e not full of hardcore players that stayed up all night talking trash. Well the single player of the origional was only inplace so you could get to grips with the epic multiplayer and wow is all i can say. Cod 4 was and is a squad skirmish...bad company was a war with limited but effective enviromental distruction. Now I do go back online for a bash at cod 4 and rarly go back to B company and that has to do with polish. Bad company was slick but not pristine.Forinstants the pace of cod with its regeneration of dammage keeps the pace and B companies health pack top up and syringe healing slowed it down. Many a time I was caught out by a pleb with an automatic rushing in as i attempted in vain to heal myself. The magic however was those battlefields...they were huge. Mountains, valleys, deserts, rolling hills and all accessable by helicopters, jeeps, gunboats, sodding great tanks oh the joy.weopon loads were mixed with cool bits of kit and for me personally it was blowing up tanks with mines....predicting where they would roll in and annihalating the enemy teams land based first strike. Well on to B company 2....news is the health packs have gone so im chuffed and its got more serious. Sweetwater made some funny moments in the origional but most of the banter slowed the 1 player down and early reports suggest the charecters have grown up/hardened in BC2. Its now more cod which isnt a bad thing considering the desructable enviroments and open warfare layout of the game. the multiplayer will continue to be epic wars of huge immersive scales and we are promised that the frostbite destruction will be ammpted up. Supposedly you can now shoot small holes out of walls and use these holes to shoot ememies from while in the safety of cover. This sort of precise destruction sounds awesome however from what I hear the early tests have proved far from favourable and glitches are rife. i want this to be cod but with tanks.Cod wont do it because they will regurgitate the same game (good stuff dont get me wrong)over and over again untill we say enough. I want the new cod but well i want an alternative and this could well be it and if they do it better this time it could be better that cod...yes i said it.UPDATE----The single player is much better this time around and offers a more tight edgy affair with its codish set pieces. I love that in the single player it takes the mick out of cod here and there. At one point someone commented that due to the mission getting tough perhaps those special forces people should do it...you know... the ones that go behind enemy lines with a knife and nothing else. Another bit is where one of the team comments that atv's are cool and snow bikes are for sissies...how i laughed.I ultimatly enjoyed the 1 player affair up untill the end where the fights became funnelled alot and all but you seem incapable of being able to shoot anything....i died alot lol. So to the multiplayer and its great. People will moan that you die from unseen foes alot but this is a game that benefits from no kill cam.The maps are so huge that death can come from anywhere and with all the advanced mechanized tech and guns on the battlefield you would expect it. This is where you work as a team...snipers spot...demolotions chaps blow stuff up and assault class backed up by support class mops up.Should one of your team die the support class chap that doubles up as a medic can heal with a health pack and bring back to life with some defib pads. This game will irritate hard core codders as they run around knifing people in the back and running around like headless chickens.Granted it doesnt look as polished as cod but its a battlefield not a small skirmish on a piddly map the size of a 50 pence piece. Both games have a formula and both just mix the origional ingredients up enough to make it their own. Also, now as well as other weopons you can upgrade other aspects such as scopes and armour....yes not as much as cod but change things too much and you risk recking stuff.I like the fact that through the online shop in bad company their already giving us dates of new maps and camo gear and up and comming stuff. In short i love it...if i had to be picky my only negative point would be that most weopons can take down bad guys at sniper ranges which makes sniper class at times pointless but im sure that to equalize the battlefield and not give someone too much of an advantage over others.Still a small tweak here EA would be most appreciated EA cheers.

A friend bought me this game for my birthday and Im so glad they did because it far surpasses COD:MW2 in my opinion. It may not have better graphics or a particularly original concept for a FPS or indeed anything really new to offer in the single player campaign but it does have the best multiplayer action to be had from any of the shooters out there. The reason I think it works so well is when you start out as a new player you have less equiptment to choose from as usual(you unlock more weapons as you gain rank/experience as in COD:MW2) BUT you are pretty much 'as lethal' as anyone else out there right from the beginning. Unlike MW2 where long term players gain "super" powers the longer they play like extra speed or faster reload times or worse, specialised weapons that are way more effective than the ones you start with, in BF2:BC you only really gain "differing" weapons that are more useful for a specialised task (like a shotgun or a mine etc). You do get to carry a couple more grenades or double the RPG ammo later on, which helps you get more kills, but faced with a new player who has the drop on you and manages to shoot you first youre still going down no matter what extras you have. Ive got to level 30 or so now and have unlocked all the weapons but I have actually gone back to using the guns I used when I first played because they often are more lethal than the later "higher ranked" ones. An example would be the WW2 tommy gun which isnt the best of its type but feels great to use and looks and sounds cool too. Often you'll decide to try to get good with one particular weapon and learn to love it.The other side to this FPS is the way the battles run in their entirety. You feel like you're on a much larger map because as you lose positions you have to fall back (or advance when you gain position) and this can lead to some great long range shooting and also really intense close quarters stuff as you try to escape or kill the enemy trying to escape, but you rarely feel "cheated" out of your kill or death, unlike CoDMW2 where you often(at least I did) get frustrated by some annoying 200mph knife-man running right through your bullets and killing your whole team and running off without a scratch!.You really can choose a ROLE in this game too which really helps the game dynamics too. Snipers with great long range rifles, motion sensors(time limited)and binocular called morter strikes. Engineers with C4 explosives, Mines and/or anti-tank rocket launchers (and that can repair vehicles), Medics and healers that can revive fallen team mates and use huge 200 round LMG's to cover everyone and the Assault troops who carry extra ammo boxes and grenade launchers, it all really works well! AND if you find yourself ammo-less and vulnerable you can always pick up any weapons dropped by friends or foes alike and take on their role. It has to be played really to appreciate how well it has been ballanced.I wasnt going to buy this game because i falsely assumed it was just another CoDMW2 clone but in truth its more like a better thought out version of the game it SHOULD have been. I never play CoDMW2 anymore and the reason is I just dont enjoy it like BF2:BC. Its really that simple. The fact you can run around on foot or take a totally different approach and roll in with tanks and attack helicopters adds even more to the whole online war experience and the enjoyment factor! Especially when, faced with the seemingly unstoppable enemy hardware, you manage to take out 3 or 4 players in an APC with a well hidden minefield or C4 explosive or take down a Helicopter with a guided rocket just as they lay waste to your pals its great fun!. You can even manage to flank unwary defences with fast moving quad bikes or jeeps due to the size of the maps too, something rarely simulated in these types of games yet they have been screaming out for it for years! If you loved games like CounterStrike or the Tom Clancy games or of course the original battlefield games from the PC or are just a lover of multiplayer war games and FPS's then you cant go wrong here, it hasnt managed to fully simulate an entire war zone but it has done a far better job than many others before it. I think this will be the one we end up remembering in years to come rather than CoDMW2 which will just be another in a long line of similar titles. I know THIS title is also similar, almost identical in places but BF2:BC has that special something that keeps you coming back and CoD games, although great to play through once or twice just dont manage to match it. for me at least.

With the imminent arrival of Battlefield 3 I thought it high time I went back and reviewed the game that single handedly turned me from someone who thought FPS games were dull into a shoot em up fanatic.BF:BC2 is set in modern day times with current firearms, weapons and vehicles but the single player game really isn't anything to write home about when compared to the likes of Call of Duty and Killzone. The in game dialogue between the 4 main characters is vaguely amusing at times and it's certainly a huge improvement on the original game but if this game relied on it's single player campaign to generate game sales then it would have failed terribly. Graphically it looks pretty 'grainy',AI is laughable with enemies staying crouched behind fences long after you've blown the fence into nothingness and the storyline is very basic with more than a few groan inducing clichesWhere this game comes alive though is in the online multiplayer which is still my favourite online FPS even so long after it's release. You start by playing as one of 4 different classes.Medics use light machine guns and can dispense health packs or even revive fallen team mates, these are the support class for picking you up when you're down and supplying suppressing fire rather than all out killing machines.Engineers have changed since BFBC and instead of using shotguns they now use small automatic Uzi style weapons that are lethal up close, spit bullets at an astonishing rate but also chew through ammo. Engineers main speciality though is in all things vehicle related with land mines for destroying tanks, jeeps and quad bikes and RPG's for anything else. As well as that they have a handy little drill which will repair friendly vehicles, destroy enemy ones and also drill nice holes in people who get too close.Recon is your sniper class with a nice selection of bolt loading and automatic long range rifles and scopes. They also have access to C4 and can call in mortar strikes as well as motion sensors to show when enemies are sneaking up on them. The Assault class is the jack of all trades with M16/AK47 style medium range weapons which can be equipped with smoke, grenade or shotgun attachments. As well as this they can throw down ammo boxes to refill grenades, bullets, C4, RPG's, etc of themselves and the other classes. On top of all this there are some standard gadgets and weapons open to all such as pistols, shotguns, some semi automatic rifles and also a homing gun which provides a lock on target for RPG's and helicopter fire if you manage to hit a vehicle with it.The online matches revolve around 2 game modes. Rush, which involves either defending or attacking metal 'crates' which can be slowly destroyed by weapons or if you can get close enough you can place a bomb on it which the enemy have to disarm withing a certain time limit, and Conquest which is about capturing and holding certain points on the maps. There's also a straight up Deathmatch mode and a cut down version of the main Rush mode which are both designed for just 4 players per team. The maps themselves are reasonably varied from small villages and built up areas, to jungle swamplands separated by rivers, big open fields, desert refuges and snow filled mountain forests. Some of the maps are huge and would take several minutes to walk from one side to the other risking sniper fire all the way, others are small cramped environments where shotguns are the order of the day. What sets BFBC2 apart from other FPS games though is the Frostbite game engine which allows you to destroy pretty much everything and the vehicles which make make the combat so fast paced. Pesky sniper entrenched in a building and picking you off? Then use an RPG to bring the building down around his ears or call in a mortar strike to level his hidey hole. Tank killing you if you get within a few metres of the crate? then jump in a chopper and blow him to hell and back.Rather than the fast paced, twitch reflex based run and gun gameplay of titles like Call of Duty, BFBC is more of a thinking man's game and rewards teamwork rather than kill count. You can quite easily top the scoring baord with minimal kills if you're reviving, healing, repairing and replenishing ammo.I can only think of 3 other games that i've put more hours into than BFBC2(WoW, City of Heroes and Warhawk) so it's worth every penny of the price I paid for it and i'm looking forward to BF:3 being just as engrossing!

Ok so, before you buy Battlefield Bad Company 2 you should firstly ask yourself whether or not you get frustrated at MW2....ifthe answer to this is yes then you definitely need to pick up Bad Company 2, and even if you don't you should still pick it up.So where to start, well single-player is a good place. The Battlefield Bad Company 2 (BBC2 from now on) single-player is excellent, it is paced well, but isn't as linear as the Call of Duty series. It hasn't as many "wow" moments as the first Modern Warfare but is definitely on a par with the second. Add to that a real sense that your a member of a squad, some camaraderie and I found myself starting to care about the characters. Also add to this the destruction from the first game, but with a bit more va-va-voom and it really is a varied and enjoyable experience.Onto the co-cop portion.....unfortunately, BBC2 doesn't have any sort of co-op mode, just straight up team based games. This is somewhat of a disappointment especially as there is a squad of four crying out to be played as with 3 friends, still though here's hoping for it's inclusion in Bad Company 3Now onto the real reason you buy this game. Multiplayer. There is a selection of modes, my favourite being Rush, which involves a defending team and an attacking team with the attackers trying to destroy objectives and push the defenders back to the last set of objectives, while the defenders try to eliminate the attackers respawn points....it'll be clearer when you play it. The other modes include a squad version of rush(smaller teams), a squad deathmatch where 5 teams of 4 try to reach a kill limit and conquest which is like Domination in MW2. Maps are excellent, they look amazing and allow for all the classes to get a chance to be used to their best, and vehicles to be used effectively. Now onto the class system. There are four classes with each specializing in a specific weapon (engineers-sub machines guns, Medic-LMGs, Recon-Sniper rifles, Assault-Assault rifles....duh). As you play with a class you gain points in that class so if you only ever played as an engineer you would only unlock the new SMGs. The things you unlock by levelling up are mostly specializations so body armour or more room to carry explosives. You can also unlock certain weapons (shotguns and single-fire rifles) to be used with any class you want.I have read in a couple of reviews saying that the game is unbalanced and its too hard for someone new to compete....well this is utter rubbish. Personally I bought the game two weeks after its release and have had no problems coming up against higher levels, as unlike MW2 the balancing is perfect. The guns higher up are all down to personal preference....do I substitute rate of fire for damage etc etc. And vehicles can be taken down if you know how and don't run like an idiot towards it with an SMG. In short i have yet to frustratedly punch a wall due to this game, something I cant say for MW2.So sorry for the somewhat epic review but i feel an epic game deserves an epic review. For those of you who cant be sacked to read the above, here's the need to know.Graphics - 9.5/10 The only console FPS better is Killzone 2Gameplay - 10/10 Slightly more "hefty" than CoD but infinite sprint balances this outSound - 10/10 I will occasionally stop and listen as bullets whiz by, a helicopter buzzes overhead and a tank whines past awesome!!Lasting appeal - 10/10 will be playing this until Bad Company 3Overall - 9.8/10 The best game I have played so far this year, along with Mass Effect 2 of course

Common Cor!I’m not a fan of conspiracy theories; I don’t easily accept tempting untruths bolstered by questionable statistics, nor do I believe much of what I am unable to verify through my own experience. I like to think I have as independent a mind as it is generally possible to have in this mixed up, muddled up, shook up world. (Well that's the way that I want it to stay and I always want it to be that way...) Or maybe that’s just what they want me to think? No, they’re not the boss of me now!But everywhere you turn somebody has a theory that things ain’t what they used to be and heaven knows, anything goes! Big business in league with the New World Order, cultural Marxism invading our social systems and our very words being continually monitored and assessed; our lexicon tweaked and re-calibrated to cause minimal offence. You could never, for instance say anything so inflammatory as; Here come old flat top, he come groovin' up slowly, he got joo joo eyeballs, he one holy roller, he got hair down to his knees, got to be a joker, he just do what he please… I mean, you’d be locked up, wouldn’t you?And then there’s Common Core, which is all the rage – and when I say rage I do mean rage – in the good ol’ US-of-A and reportedly making some inroads into the UK. I know that what we need is a great big melting pot, big enough to hold the world and all it’s got but a totalitarian fascist plot? We don’t need no education; all we need is a production line to churn out identikit, cookie-cutter automata, all equally able and just clever enough to serve as worker drones. Nothing to distinguish one from another any more, just coffee coloured people by the score. Then there’s the climate change ‘debate’, in which 97% of those who believe in government-funded climate research are drumming up hysteria and then using the fear to spread the faith. But, think about it - one drop of rain on your window pane doesn't mean to say there's a hurricane humming. So don't start running every time you hear it coming, ‘cause it doesn't matter. You know it doesn't matter; it’s just a storm in a teacup. But if you believe all the crackpot theorists you could easily become convinced that the lizard overlords really are in charge. Why are they collecting all that personal data for instance? Login details, dates, emails, IP addresses, GPS locations, biometrics. Common core alarmists talk about the use of facial recognition, posture measurement, wristbands that monitor the attention of students and other metrics that allow them to codify and classify and control and predict the behaviour of both pupils and staff. Aptly enough for common core, just like the kids, it really doesn’t add up.As I said, I don’t much go for conspiracy theories but one little word that you may have overheard is, under the guise of the caring European Union, we are being driven unwittingly towards becoming mere tax cattle. That is, of course, if you are gullible enough to believe all the hysterical nonsense out there. The real truth is there is a theory to fit pretty much every prejudice. Even – and I know you’ll instantly see what a load of rubbish this is – the ridiculous notion that blogs exposing these sinister plots are being infiltrated by government surveillance software which automatically replaces the sensitive and chilling facts with innocuous song lyrics.Don't even MENTION Agenda 21!The lizards are coming!Well, surely we’d smell a rat if such a thing were happening? I actually Do OWN this Game which i had delivered Yesterday, and to honest i was totally amazed at how very good this Game certainly is.I am not going to compare it with MW,MW2,as this Game requires a lot more thought about tactics and type of Gameplay..so all those headless Chickens that like to run around at top speed carrying double shotguns/Sub MGs are going to be sorely tested whilst playing this Game.I will briefly list the Areas in which i think this Game excels in online Play.1) Highly detailed and realistic Graphics.2) Massive varied and plentiful Map areas in which you are free to roam at will either on foot or utilising Vehicles.3)Many weapon types and configurations to choose from, and as your ranking level gradualy increases you will be awarded more unlocks to further equip and improve your chosen weapon or Soldier. The Weapons actually behave and sound like you have a substantial piece of kit in your hands, and not some weedy lack lustre Assault/Sniper rifle/MG.4) All of your enviroment is destructible..unable to kill that group of annoying Enemy Soldiers holed up in a House, simply destroy the house and let the roof collapse in on them, job done.5) The Player can utilise a good number of Vehicles such as,Tanks,Light Tanks,Helicopters,Pilotless drones,Quad Bikes,Jet Skis..yes Jet Skis,APCs,and small boats.6) There is so much happening around you, sometimes you just simply stop what you are doing just to make sure you arent seeing things IE flights of A10s,Stealth Bombers,Gunships attacking distant targets.Plus you can also see Ships out at Sea adding their firepower to the attack/defence of a Target.7) If you are unused to the new control layout, you can access the Game options and simply reconfigure your controls to the old Battle Field Bad Company 1 layout. The controls are easy to use and after a little trial and error you will soon master them.8) Unlike BFBC1 your chosen Soldier type does NOT come ready equipped with any upgrades or special weapons, these all have to be earned,so if you choose to play as Medic you wont instantly be able to dispense Aid Packs, these have to earned.9) There are lots of new Patches,Pins, and Awards to win.10) I have completed 8 Hours of on line Game play and can say that i have not experienced any problems with waiting to respawn or actually joining large Squads.11) There are now also available upgrades for your Vehicles which can increase your Armour protection, detect hidden enemies near your vehicle, make explosive weapons more powerful and penetrate deeper into Targets.12) The Game is very immersive,Addictive and you will certainly start to plan your Squad tactics, and attack plans very carefully, and not simply run blindly about until you kill/get killed.I really think that this Game is a winner, and is Great value for money, and will certainly provide buyers with many hours of enjoyment both in Online and Campaign Mode. What more could you possibly want !!..As an update i have now racked up 48 Hours of on line game play, and this Game certainly delivers the goods in all departments,Graphics,Gameplay,Enviroments, sheer value for Money, and massive variety in weapons, vehicle, and soldier unlocks. This Game certainly has to be the new bench mark for any future online Warfare type of Games.

While ditching its comedy blowing everything up appeal, I felt that the second Bad Company have deviated more towards a Call of Duty style of game play. By all means this certainly isn't a bad thing but on the other hand I play BC because it's different approach to war games. While the destruction you can cause and some humour are still in the game they have really put this on the back burner and a more serious approach and storyline have presented itself. The game is by no means bad with easy controls and fun game play this makes the experience of Bad Company 2 a good one and certainly up there with the best war games available. The single player plays like the first but step forward and stronger the storyline then its predecessor,as you already know the characters there isn't a huge amount of Character development going on letting you get swiftly into the game. At the start you play as another character but I can only assume this is to help you to understand the controls if you have not played the first game and I think the developers wanted to step away from that recap training the other war games do.The graphics are a bit hit and miss, while one moment you can be thinking how wonderful everything looks while others look rushed. As you move forward you can notice the background loading in front of you especially when you are in control of fast moving vehicles, this slow frame rate really lets the game down in places as its clearly noticeable. The game is also short and provides little challenge for thrill seekers. I played it on "hard" mode and had no real problems making the game easy to flow through which isn't the point of a hard level setting, those looking for a challenge may feel let down and disappointed.Stepping away from the single player the online multiplayer is brilliant. I have not played this enough to warrant a full review and as I have only played a few hours' worth on rush. Rush involves two sets of teams, one defending team and another is obviously attacking. The ideal of the attackers is to try and destroy points and push the defenders back and back only all the points have been taken, while the defenders try to stop the attackers. The game works very heavily on teamwork and if you are not in a well balanced team I would advise you to get out and search for another game as the last one I played my whole team went for kills rather than try and take the points, leaving me to try on my own without any back up.Like COD online you have different levels and as you play as either Recon/Medic/Assault or Engineer you can level these up the more you use them giving you different equipment and weapons. There are also Tanks, jeeps etc and some levels there are quite enough of these around so you don't feel left out like on COD when someone always nicks the only tank. The Helicopter I found the controls very difficult so I stopped trying to fly the damn thing and got in as a gunner. All in all, while I feel that a lot of ideas have been copied from other games of its kind BC2 certainly is a very likable and playable game on and offline.

I switched to Bad Company 2 after getting, oh, so frustrated with MW2. The constant deaths by marathon/lightweight/commando's and ac-130's made me throw the controller away numerous times. The experience with BC2 is different. The game is much, much more team-based, as everything and anything you do has an effect on your whole squad. Each team is divided into 3 squads of 4 players (consoles). There are four classes/kits to choose from: assault, engineer, medic and recon. Each class has it's advantages and weaknesses, for example the medic's being the ability to revive and heal squad mates but helplessness against heavily armored vehicles, and buildings. Squads should use these four classes in a way they find to be most effective,as each class is usually most of the time. Here lies the first flaw of BC2. Often you will end up in a squad where players don't really the about the objective, but they play for kills. Thus they use whatever class they want, regardless of what is actually needed. Don't be surprised when your whole squad is using the recon class, sniping on top of a hill a mile away from the action.Squads are also used for super-fast transportation. You can spawn directly beside a squad-mate, effectively leaving out the part where you have to traverse all the way from your base to the action. This is good, because the maps in BC2 are very big. To compare, most of the maps are about 3 or 4 times bigger than Wasteland in MW2 (at least). The maps vary a lot. Thankfully there is an abundance of vehicles to help you travel across these vast maps. Vehicles include quads, humvees, tanks, armored cars, helicopters, jet skis etc. All these vehicles can be used tactically to complete the mission. The maps vary a lot; you'll find yourself in autumn landscape, snow, desert, dense jungle and urban landscape. There are a few game modes to choose from: rush, squad rush, conquest and squad deathmatch. Rush and conquest are probably the most popular ones. The objective in rush is simple: destroy all the M-COMM stations before your respawn tickets run out (75). Conquest is basically the same as domination in MW2. It isn't a lot, but gameplay in 1 match can vary quite a bit. Make sure you have enough time to play as a match can take anything from 20 minutes to an hour. Matches go on in a continuous cycle, meaning there is no lobby in between like in MW2. This is kind of bad, as you can't see challenges and all that good stuff. What you can see though, is some of your stats, such as how much experience you gained in each class.Overall Bad Company 2 is a fantastic game, and it is most definitely worthy of competing with MW2. The flaws aren't really in the game, but in the community. Some players just don't understand how important teamwork is and that can ruin the game for others. However, if you play with people who are willing to play it as it's supposed to, you'll have a blast. You'll have to think before you do because mistakes will cost you. See you on the battlefield!

I suppose it would be appropriate to begin by describing the campaign, though I shall keep it short. Call of Duty refugees will find the storyline gripping, and will enjoy the realism of the fire-fights in the game. Some of the battles are truly tense, and require you to actually think instead of running out into the open all-guns blazing. I particularly liked the ending of the game, which is original and probably better experienced than described. The game comes into its own with the online multiplayer. Some serious time and thought has been put into creatinging this multiplayer experience, and there is very little fault that can be found with it. As some have said, it is an alternative to Call of Duty, but in my opinion it is far more than that: it is light years ahead of any Call of Duty title. I tend to prefer the "Conquest" mode, which is essentially a capture the flag style game. Teams of up to a dozen start on opposing ends of the map, and there is a rush to take the fire-bases and raise your flag (either Russian or US). Vehicles play a huge part, and require a great deal of teamwork: one player to drive a tank and fire the main gun, while another fires the minigun; one player flies a helicopter and fires missiles while a second takes control of the cannon. There are gunboats, hum-vees, Land Rovers and quad bikes to be enjoyed, too. The maps are very large, about a mile or two long, and so it takes a while to travel about on foot in some cases. There is a completely different style of play compared to Call of Duty, and you are required to earn your kills by thinking tactically, rather than just blasting incessantly with a shotgun and then being awarded some silly attack helicopter that kills the entire enemy team ten times over. Some of the online battles I have had have been nigh on breathtaking, and there is almost a feeling of satisfaction when your team blows up a building and wins the moment.I think with Battlefield: Bad Company 2 there is a different style of player: many times someone has pulled over in a tank to let me in; dropped me an ammo box out of courtesy, and likewise a med-kit. Last week someone even landed their helicopter to pick me up. Is this just me noticing silly things? Or is it a sign that this game is played by a better standard of mature gamer, and does not allow ten year old children to find their niche "quick-sniping" someone while jumping from a building? Some have complained that it is too hard starting out online when you have no gadgets and specials, and perhaps there is some weight to that argument; but when you eventually earn them by levelling up you are a better player for it. And you could just be a big cheat and buy all the weapons and gadgets on the marketplace without waiting to level up.This is one of the best online games of the decade, and I imagine it will remain so for quite some time to come.

Just to help balance up some of these negative reviews I'd like to state that BC2 multiplayer is a far superior game in every aspect to COD:MW2 multiplayer. I'm not choosing sides due to some daft allegiance to either game as have 10th prestige on COD:MW1, COD:WAW and almost there on MW2. Thats over 66 days wracked up online playing cod, so I feel I'm qualified to rebute some of the nonsense claims that BC2 ain't good.I'm not going to review each characteristic of this game as others have done so already. For a start. If you are used to COD there is a learning curve (as with any game) to playing BC2 online but it's fairly quick and very worth it. Just like COD, you may get owned in the beginning but you have to stick with it.It's the only way to improve. Pay attention to what others are doing around you. If it works for them it will work for you. Don't charge into every battle. It's not COD and that's why you will die quickly. It's funny people mention camping, as though COD isn't the worst game in the world for it already. In BC2 it is almost erradicated by destructible environments. Snipers cannot go prone, ARE EASIER TO SPOT and you can destroy their cover with RPG's, 40mm grenades from your assualt rifle, c4 or any of the many vehicles at hand. Also, the games weapons are well balanced across the board. Not like the magical UMP in MW2 which allows you to snipe across a map. There is an excellent choice of weapons and vehicles, which also add some of the finest comedy gaming moments you have ever seen. The game types are basic but perfect. You actually feel satisfaction when your team wins, instead of just counting your Kill:Death ratio at the end of each match. It can hurt when you lose, especially when both teams are trying their best.BC2'S maps are massive (not as big as BC1) and allow you to attack your foes from many different angels, whether by land, air or sea. The maps are also varied and beautifully rendered.DICE have created a well balanced game offering competitive play, teamwork, great maps, awesome weapons, vehicles and destructable scenery which should be an automatic inclusion in any war type release.IW's MW2 have created a game with little or no balance in weapons or gameplay (air drop chopper gunner anyone, nuke boosting, basic cheating etc etc). Small maps, no destruction, no vehicles or real incentive for teamwork.I love COD4 and WAW but am relieved BC2 was released because MW2 has too many things wrong with it and is the ultimate lesson in frustration. My advice. If CODMW2 is all you're good at then stick with it. If your into excellent war games and like a challenge get BC2.BTW: Single player not a scratch on the multiplayer.

This review is based solely on the multiplayer experience, comparing it with IW's MW2.Given that I'd racked up over 20,000 kills on MW2 and grew rather bored with the grinding, in-your-face quality of IW's effort, BFBC2 came along like a breath of fresh air. This game gives you a much wider scope for tactical engagement and strategising; the destructible environments make repeated building-camping (the bane of MW2) laughably foolish, and you actually have to be able to factor squad-play, vehicles, physics & gravity into your game if you are to succeed. There are ten large and detailed maps, which accommodate different modes that are based entirely on teamplay (four-team (16-man) deathmatch,Rush -Demolition mode in MW2- and conquest -Domination in MW2). There are no lone-wolf game modes in this game, as the maps are too large for them.Gameplay-wise, the look sensitivity does feel sluggish in comparison with MW2 (as did Battlefield 1943), but I guess that's in respect of the difference in play speed between the two games. Still, it does take a bit of getting used to, and I do have the sensitivity ramped up to max. I think this is what puts off many COD players from playing it for too long (esp. those in my clan), but if you entertain it, it entertains you. So, while MW2 generally rewards kills, BC2 rewards teamplay (you get points for healing/reviving, resupplying and spot kills) and I guess it depends on what kind of player you are whether or not you will enjoy it. However, I will say this; Both games have Apache Gunships in them, but only one game lets you snipe the pilot with a headshot from over a kilometre away and have the Chopper-gunner himself wonder why they've just crashed and burned. BFBC2's realistic game engine awards invention, but permits extreme silliness (re:youtube) at the same time, which adds to the longevity.Battlefield Bad Company 2 MP is a great game for many reasons, not least of which is the mayhem which ensues with 24 people on xboxlive playing in one lobby, it looks and sounds like a warzone, and unlike other reviewers, I think the graphics are actually superior to MW2 in terms of detail and breadth. But that's an aside; people will have downloaded the Stimulus DLC for MW2 and be busy grinding their way along Double XP week (like me for a while) atm, but you know that after a few weeks (in my case, a few hours) it's just the same old same old. I recommend you buy this game on the merit of the maps, and the depth of the multiplayer mode, as it's a worthy alternative to MW2.
