There is a time in a persons life when recieving socks for Christmas becomes a good thing. You know that the socks you have owned for 10 years can finally go in the bin and you can now safely rely on your new ones to give you the comfort and satisfaction you always knew they could deliver. In some ways BF3 feels somewhat similar yet I think I may have been given trainer socks by mistake...I will try to explain ...I have been a PC gamer for almost 20 years and have played most, if not all of the ground breaking games of the last 2 decades. Wolfenstien, Doom, Duke Nukem and sooo many others. Oh what glorious days they were indeed! Then along came the 'Medal of Honor' series, which allowed you to build your own levels using the radiant level editor (I know this wasn't the 1st), to then be published online for others to download and play. Awesome! (I wonder how many people, like me, made a bunch of half finshed maps that never saw the light of day?) Last but not least though came Infinity Ward's Call of Duty. My 1st experience of COD was one of utter amazement. Here was a game that threw down the gauntlet to the other pretenders and it quickly established itself as a front-runner and I believe it became the benchmark for what people expected from their gaming experience. The blood, the guts, the bombs and the adult style (by that I don't mean sexy times in Amsterdam) all rolled into one made it one of the most important games I ever played. It cemented my love for FPS games instantly and left me thinking I should have signed up when I left school (glad I didn't though). However, I had to move on to pastures new and along the way I found various games that stole my attention for a while, Vietcong (a completely under rated game) and then Battlefield 2. Word of advice to those who don't have a decent internet connection at home. Don't by an online game when you have dial-up. Anyway, broadband finally got installed and that was that. I was lost to the world of toy soldiers, who brought little but death, suffering and destruction on a mahoosive scale. Do do do do doooooo, I'm loving it. So, there I was, lured even further into the FPS lair. BF2 gave something that no other could, and on the PC it was simply amazing. BF2 offered something that few others had attempted, let alone achieved. It had managed to create a game that satisfied both types of gamer, those who model themselves on Rambo, taking on the whole enemy with a desert eagle and a death wish and those who appreciate team work. I have to admit, I am somewhere in the middle.Anyway, enough about games of old and on with the present. The latest incarnation of the BattleField series is simply put, ***OUTSTANDING***. I was lucky enough to get this as a Xmas present but on my Xbox360, as my PC probably won't run it. Single player mode is SUPERB and the GFX are BREATHTAKING. The single player campaign is possibly a little short but then I have so many games that I never completed, as they were too long, and my interest just faded. This could have been longer but I fear it may then have got left on the shelf. The storyline is good and the cutscenes really make you feel part of the story. I would say that the single player mode is more like an action movie with you playing a part in it though as there is not enough shooting and maiming for my liking. You are sort of dragged along a BF3 tour of "Look at what we can do" which is all well and good but they appear to be teasers for the Multiplayer mode only as you don't get much time to use the new toys for very long. Bit of a shame. The close-combat is a nice new addition but again there is not enough of it. I don't have anything else of real value to say about the single player campaign as it was the multiplayer aspect that interested me the most.Online this game is a bit of a let down really. I must make it clear that this is quite possibly not the fault of the developers or poor server hosting, it is more than likely my expectations based on the previous PC versions. Yes the game engine is sublime, all the peripheral FX that go on as you are fighting (including proper destruction and fog of war) is brilliant. For the 1st time ever it feels like a proper war. But, and this is a BIG BUT, 24 players, as opposed to 64 on the PC just doesn't quite cut it. The whole point of BF is the scale of things and the console almost pulls it off, but not quite. New game modes are really nice but it just makes me want to upgrade my PC. Aiming without a mouse and keyboard is sluggish and somewhat clumsy. Maybe that's just my poor ability to use one, maybe it's just not the way FPS games should be played. After all, the PC is what these games were intended for. The console version seems to lack many of the features that the PC delivers. In game team commands, air strikes, and the much loved commander mode do not appear to exist for the console. This I have to say is a real shame as it is what sets the BF series apart from the others. To sum things up, as I could be here all day writing:1. If you have a PC that can handle this game then do NOT buy it for a console2. The GFX and game engine are quite possibly the best ever developed3. Single-Player is fun but a little short4. Multi-Player mode needs more players (e.g. 64 not 24)5. Aiming with a gamepad requires a lot of practice.6. BF3 fells a little bit too arcady which is probably good for sales, but not for those who wanted a more engrossing affairSo overall I give this game 4 stars as it just falls short of my expectations due to the points I have mentioned above BUT, if you have never played this on a PC then you will definitley NOT be dissapointed. If there is one game genre that excites and entertains me the most, it is the FPS and more specifically, ones that involve AK47's and sneaky knife kills, oh how that smug bast@rd is gonna get it when I catch him...and this game will certainly give you hours of pleasure on either console or PC format. Just tell your better half not to expect any conversation or "quality time" when it arrives in the post as this will be your new home for the next few months! So, that's how I came to the conclusion that BF3 is like a new pair of socks. On the console it's more like a pair of trainer socks; The most important parts are all there but somehow you know something aint right. Trainer socks can only be used for certain occasions and if like me you just don't do sport, then you may be left feeling that not only are your ankles cold, but you look like a tw@t too!

I am a longer term gamer, before the COD or BF relationship it used to be MoH and CoD! I have pretty much all the Battlefield games, Call of Duty games and even MoH Tier 1. I am not a fanboy of either franchise and enjoy gaming for gaming sake. I will say that of MW3 and BF3 I do tend to play BF3 more, mainly due to vehicle combat. There is a lot of utter nonsense usually written in reviews so I will keep this short.Graphics:Good to great in some instances bad in others. The main issue seems to be distance rendering and using dithering to fade out detail over distance. The first time I saw this was with Halo 2 on the 360 and is essentially means that the 360 is struggling with newer games hardware wise.In saying that BF3 has the whole host of reasonable new additions including bloom and some pretty good, and very annoying game play wise weather effects. Some details you won't notice until a lull in combat, such as water running off buildings in the rainy grand bazaar map.One issue I've been having with some of the newer games is spotting enemies, especially at range when there is lot of clutter. In some ways this is down much to resolution and the type of display (HD TV) but the spotting system does take the edge off this and makes it bearable.Sound:The sounds is as brilliant as the other Bad Company's in the series, although I would say it is not as immersive of the original Bad Company, the increased number of in-game voice comms is pretty good.Gameplay:The levelling system is polished, weapon unlocks make sense and there are plenty of custom sights to use that each have their own benefits. Couple of things I don't like is some of the accessories are pointless, sound suppressors on weapons designed for suppressive fire and there is a problem with the faction weapon unlocks. Essentially each faction (US & Russian) has their core weapon (as issued today) as you progress through class you unlock very similar weapons (M4A1/M4, M16A3/M16A4) although they do have differences it seems a little bit of a cheat on the developer side. As you reach the last unlock per class it unlocks the faction weapons. Unfortunately when you change sides you often find yourself sporting the faction default weapon and not the one you were using.Vehicle, player health and how they all interact have changed. Health will regenerate when out of combat at a slow rate and this includes vehicles. Although certain damage will set vehicles on fire which will cause their health to decrease until destruction. Someone mentioned in another review that is made health packs pointless, this is not true as health packs will heal at a fast rate in combat and benefit more than one person. Vehicles will nearly always burn up as many engineers choose to carry anti-tank mines rather than a repair tool. The maps are nicely fleshed out, one complaint would be on conquest maps there are a couple of maps with objectives in straight lines with the map in the shape of a narrow corridor. This makes it very easy to push teams into their spawns (Metro) thus forcing one team to be slaughtered. There are a couple of bigger maps (Firestorm) where the objectives are clustered together with large sections of the map not used. The other issue is the team size is quite limited in the Xbox360 version, in some maps 12 players per side is simply not enough to populate the map with people often only killing 5 or 6 per round because of it.Some other reviewers said you need voice communications to use the game, you don't. With enemy marking, objective marking, squad spawning it isn't necessary. It does help when voice comm's are used correctly but many people don't use it properly anyway. MW3 isn't terribly team based game play anyway (exception being spec ops) so most interaction is irrelevant.Game wise I have had a few Xbox crashes, and disconnects but the disconnects are mainly because Xbox Live loses a connection to the wireless network and then doesn't bother re-establishing it automatically. Bugs? I have not found any and finding games I've never had a problem with. Co-Op missions can sometimes be difficult and are more affected by time than regular multiplayer. I've yet to find a game with MW3 and gave up, although the game has been updated since I last played but IWNET has always been very poor, even on the PC.Conclusion:People often compare what they see as like games (BF3 and MW3) although in my view they both offer different play styles and both are good games in their own style. Each game has its issues, I found the new perk system in MW3 to be rather annoying and I find the new vehicle damage system in BF3 as annoying. BF 3 is a good game and one worth getting if you like the Bad Company games it tends to use more military significant tactics than the older games, making firing volumes to suppress the enemy worthwhile and giving the recon class some tools to actually do some reconnaissance. While you can run around randomly often working as a team makes for a better game, I've recently played Squad Deathmatch for the first time (to unlock the British rifle) and it really shines for co-operative play. The lack of split screen gameplay, especially for the too short co-op campaign is disappointing. Like every other shooter out there the single player was far too short with a lot of pointless elements in it. MW3 does a better job of setting the scene, far better than the lacklustre MW2 single player campaign. Unfortunately BF3 did not build on Bad Company 2 or MoH Tier 1 which has a great campaign.Single Player - 3*Co-Op Feature - 3.5*Multiplayer - 4*(nothing really deserves top marks unless it really shines)

I was extremely disappointed in the beta released for this game just weeks before it launched. I went from hyped up to let down. I went ahead and purchased it anyway because a few of my friends were getting it, and am I glad that I did. Why EA/Dice chose to use Rush Mode - Operation Metro for the public beta is a business move I will never understand, because it was misleading in a bad way. There were no vehicles to be found, the combat was shallow and generic, weapons did way too much damage and on top of that many feared the bugs in the beta would not be ironed out by release. They were wrong, and so was I.It turns out I personally don't care for Rush Mode,it is very similar to Demolition (not to be confused with Domination) from the COD series where you have an offense side trying to invade the enemy base and plant a bomb in 1 of 2 locations. This mode to me seems very partial to the defending side and I just don't care for it. This was the mode presented in the beta along with the party issues, the ridiculous damage (which was changed in the retail - you no longer die in 2 bullets), screen flicker, infantry only map, camping, etc. It is no wonder the beta made so many people sceptical of the finished game. Now enter Conquest Mode, the bread and butter of real Battlefield roots. This is what Battlefield games are about. This is much more akin to (again) COD's Domination mode, although Conquest has been around much longer. You capture various flags across the maps and try to keep the enemy team from taking them. You have a set amount of points or tickets that slowly drop as the match progresses, the first team to reach zero loses. Once a flag is capped you can spawn in that area. You can also spawn on anyone in your squad at any point during the match as long as they aren't in a vehicle that is full. There are vehicles of all sorts, from boats and amphibious to choppers, fighter jets, tanks, hummers, there are multiple ways to navigate the maps. There a 4 classes to choose from - each having a unique set of abilities and they all have a purpose that benefits yourself and your team mates. Unlocks galore from class specific to universal (can be used with any class). Even the vehicles have multiple unlocks to open as you gain XP from using them. You will not see everything this game has to offer for a very long time. The game can be played lone wolf and still be enjoyable but it rewards team players more with squad bonuses. The maps vary greatly in size from the infantry only Operation Metro to the large scale battles of Caspian Border. The destruction is toned down slightly from the Bad Company series, but there are plenty of walls/buildings/obstacles that come apart throughout the match progress. The online play is silk smooth and offers filters for everything. If you only want to play a specific map, you can. You can filter player count, gametype, maps, and best of all, DEDICATED SERVERS! No host advantage, no getting screwed over by some guy who is 100 millseconds ahead of what your seeing on the screen, what you see is what is happening. You can filter the servers by region and see what your ping is to any of the servers before you join a match. BEAUTIFUL! Why can't other games have this option? There is no excuse for big name titles any more to ignore what we have been asking for FOR YEARS on console games. If your on the fence because of that nasty beta, please give the full finished retail game another go. It really is a great game so long as you have internet, the campaign is a one and done deal and not worth the price of admission by itself. Battlefield has never been about single player though, in fact BF2 didn't even have a single player option. Think of it as a bonus to the multiplayer - the real reason to buy this fantastic game.

I ummed and ahhed over whether or not to buy Battlefield 3. I have been playing Call of Duty since the very first release (way back) set in the early years of WW2 and the fluid, accurate and exciting gameplay created by Infynity Ward has always struggled to find a competitor. What Call of Duty did well was creating the illusion of being part of a bigger battle; of battling alongside your platoon mates in a realistic audio/visual rendition of warfare. The meat and potatoes of Call of Duty, however, was the multiplayer but I have found it has become skewered towards hardcore gamers who are constantly rewarded with perks and the games designers have made the maps result in mexican standoffs andfunnelled battles. So I bought Battlefield 3.Let's get something out straight away: the single player campaign sucks. It's derivative and aimless. There are some gritty moments but I found myself constantly searching for trigger points to move the narrative along or waiting for an invulnerable squad mate to join me to enable a cut-scene. It just feels a bit...meh.The multiplayer is, though, a revelation. What I feel that it has captured is what Call of Duty has lost: the feeling of being part of a real battle, fighting alongside your team mates and rewarding objective taking rather than K/D ratios. There are a bunch of modes in MP but I feel that Rush Mode is the strongest and makes everyone play the 'long game' more than conquest. The game encourages teamwork and you can easily finish top of the scoreboard without killing anyone. Also, the destructible environments add to the realism even further. Being a sniper in this game is doubly hard because of this as even if you find a nice spot on top of a building someone will fire an RPG at it and...well, no more top floor. Hiding behind a wall against a tank is also a temporary measure as they will just blow a hole in the wall. There is a limit to the destruction and that sometimes becomes frustrating as to why some things are destructible and some aren't. Some of the newer maps, though, are almost completely destructible. The second thing which is great are vehicles. They take a little bit of getting used to, but they can help turn a battle. Just as in real life a tank can be a very powerful asset but in a town they are vulnerable from RPG attack and mines...but because of destructible environments they can quickly create a useful clearing and with a decent teammate as a machine gunner can be very dominant. My only criticism of the vehicles is that the choppers and jets are a bit tricky to fly...but there is no where to practice! No training modes, or empty maps - nothing. So you end up annoying your team mates by crashing your jet into a hillside every now and again. Finally, the classes (Infrantry, Engineer, Recon and Support) each bring with them different strengths and weaknesses and you really have to think about which will be the most useful given the map and what vehicles it has. There are some issues in that the VOIP service is very hit and miss...some games have negligible teamwork...and there is quite a bit of hanging around waiting for menus to do their thing...but overall this is a fantastic game that produces some amazing moments in multiplayer. Taking your first tank down is very satisfying...landing behind enemy lines and setting up a spawn point for the first time...defending a base to the death whilst running out of ammo...playing medic and keeping an entire squad healed and alive. The thing is MW3 doesn't have any of these moments and that is why this is a better game.

Pros:Fast paced, never boring even for a moment.Really easy to follow your objectives. I've always struggled with MW style games as I tend to get confused and lost. This is an endless source of confusion for me. Battlefield managed to keep me focused the whole time. There's a neat objective at the top, and markers on your compass, targets are clear. Also, being UK english, I find US army speak a little tricky to follow, again confuses me, so it's nice to have the objectives in plain understandable english. Of course, hardcore fans won't suffer this in any case :)Very nice variations in the game. I do bore easily these days, so for a game to keep me captivated past an hour or so needs to be good. This managed it easily. It's definitely a game you'll finish.Storyline is above average, although still feels a bit awkward. I won't spoil it. It works, and certainly is better acted than a C&C storyline, although it does remind me a little of those wooden dialogs you get in C&C games.plenty of ammo. I never had a weapon run out.Aim is sharp, there's some aim assist, I used it, I couldnt tell you what it did. Sniper weapons are great. The team you work with has great AI, and they also give you a good opportunity to take part. Some games that have team AI can easily turn into a spectator sport (you can hang back and let the team do the level for you) but this isn't one of them. Certain things, like aiming an RPG or taking out a specific enemy is assigned to you, and the game won't progress until you muck in.Cons:There's a lot of weapons. Also given that there's no shortage of ammo, you could easily complete the whole game using only a handful of them. You also can't tell much difference between them in many cases. It would be nicer if, similar to halo or MGS games, the weapons were more distinct from each other. Granted, that's not how real life is, so it depends if you want a simulator or a game I guess. I would have prefered a greater emphasis on collecting ammo and choosing weapons, personally. The vehicle sections while a real refreshing part of the game and really great, often are over a bit quick and have sharp learning curves. For example (spoiler alert!) the tank, I pretty much finished the section before realising there's an image of the orientation of the turret. That made it tricky to drive, not knowing which way your turret view is facing. Not a big fan of L-click for run. But its pretty common now so thats a personal gripe. It gives me cramp, that's all.I guess its a linear game, as in, pretty much a linear story with no ability to deviate. For me, that's how I like it, but if you want an "open" game, this is not for you. I wouldn't expect any different, given my experiences with games like halo, I mean, you work as a team, so you do what the team does.Summary:Those are very nitpicky cons, and the pros outweigh them ten to one. It's a great game. Well worth the money, and right up there with the big releases like halo or MW. Battlefield may play "second fiddle" to that other franchise, but it really should not be overlooked. It's conceivable that you may feel compelled to sit on this game from start to finish without putting the controller down. If you have that luxury :)

I must start off this review by saying that I have had this game for quite some time now and I am able to analyse how each of the game works and how each feature makes the game better.I start off with Battlefield 3 since this is the item I am reviewing. In terms of when you start the game, I absolutely LOVE how the introduction menu is laid out and the music for the beginning of the game is exciting and thrilling. Now the menu. You have campaign, multi player (requires Xbox LIVE) My Soldier (requires Xbox Live) and settings. Here are the negative and positive about this.Positive:it allows the player a wide arrange of things to do on the menu and it is not boring.Negative:I don't like the fact that there are 2 discs for the game,1 for campaign and 1 for multi player. Just use one? It is VERY annoying that I have to keep opening the game case each time and put the discs back each time and it is very annoying.Comparing this to MW3, the start of the game (game menu) is very tedious. There's no real exciting music like BF3 and it starts of with a character ( I think it's Soap) talking about modern warfare or something. Not really my cup of tea. When you skip the boring speech, there is a choice of Special Ops (a bit like extra missions), campaign mode and multi player mode.Positive:I like the fact that it is one disc and that it tells you how long you have spent on the campaign mode and multi player.Negative:Its quite boring there's not much to do if you want to do something different and MW3 doesn't offer that.Battlefield 3 wins round 1Next is campaign mode. At first the prologue was VERY good (BF3) but im very sorry to say this, overall the campaign was awful, it felt fake, there was no realism into it, the campaign did not meet the concept of the purpose of the game (which is war). However the graphics were fantastic and at least the atmosphere was good too.MW3's campaign however was different. CoD series ALWAYS has a fantastic campaign and out of all the CoDs I have had not one failed to disappoint. The story line was easy and it followed on through perfectly from MW2. On that basis MW3 wins round 2.Next up is multi player. Now here is where thing changes. Battlefield 3 on line is amazing! It is very engaging, and especially team death match, it definitely feels like being as part of the team and there is no way I can fault BF3 online mode and the maps are equally good, there is a variety of big maps and medium sized maps so you can kill your opponents easily (in the sense of your skills) and also there is no time limit as such, which is a good thing if time is on your side. However it does take some time to get used to the new controls if you have converted to CoD to BFComparing this to MW3 the on line mode is very tedious and boring. You die VERY easily, the maps are more or less exactly the same to MW2 and the gun selection is confusing. Team death match I didn't find very engaging and the maps are quite broad so there is no team effort in MW3. Therefore without a shadow of a doubt battlefield 3 wins round 3. (how ironic..)Overall Battlefield 3 is an amazing game, well worth your £25, and if you only care about multi player, waste NO time in buying this and forget MW3.

Battlefield 3. I like it, it has good moments, great moments, bad moments, and the "oh **** that was so awesome I wish there was a theater mode" moments.Ok just a couple of negatives firstly. Well just one really: Playing with friends. Play on your own: fine. Start a squad: issues. Not all the time but there are some gremlins with getting friends in games with you. Especially if you have over 4 players, it just takes time and patience to get in the same game, or even to find one at times. The online is very good. I love vehicles and the Conquest and Rush modes throw a large volume of them at you. All the vehicles from Bad Company 2 with the addition of jets. Jets which, when combined with good headphones and a large TV, make for some "THIS IS AWESOME" moments. With me that usually constitutes crashing into a forest at Mach 2. So the gameplay is good, defibrillators make a return as do all the expected weaponry.Lock-on rocket launchers (Stinger, IGLA, Javelin) make for some varied gameplay as well as added bits and pieces for guns such as: bipods for steadied aiming, red laser sights and tactical lights (the latter two blind the enemy somewhat while aiming at their face).Helicopter flying is definitely more complex, I often try the barrel roll maneuver seen in the recent A-Team film, which is usually followed by the fiery death of myself and anyone else aboard at the time. Jet flying isn't too hard to get to grips with, though some players are so excellent at it that it can be hard to get any air-time without being shot down by an enemy jet. My friend has rolled a tank fully over and I have thrown a jeep off of a cliff... and landed. As you can see this game is so much fun; more so when played with friends. In fact it makes playing alone seem rubbish. The Frostbite 2 Engine is good, the destruction of buildings is very good, but I wish you could knock more structures down, this was one of the main gameplay weaknesses for me. I want to be able to flatten things more, it makes for cinematic gaming. But here's the best thing online: no lag. I play on 360 so I can't vouch for the other platforms, but I've had a total lag time of about 30 seconds in all of my games put together (21 hours game time).Just a few more things that I like: jet sounds flying over head, lock-on missiles, going prone, huge maps (good for air-based play styles). This is more than a shooter, that's why I love it, if you want to play in a game that encourages team playing and allows you to still get loads of points without even firing a bullet then this is the game for you.I know this review is very positive, but I don't want to b itch about everything, it won't be to everyone's tastes, but it's worth a go. Definitely.Oh yeah, I haven't played much campaign mode or co-op, but they seem perfectly good, the story is perfectly good, but the online will have you keeping that multiplayer disc in for the majority of the time.

This game is awesome and really shows what modern-age gaming can do. The maps are expansive, the vehicles are numerous and ranged, and the scale of it all is perfect.Very fun but a bit frustrating if you're starting late on (So about now) as you will inevitably end up facing those who've played way too long for it to be healthy for them. Those who've reached level 100 in the upper status (forgotten it's name) really know what they're doing and take advantage of their battlefield knowledge at any point they can. It's also frustrating when you encounter what I like to call the 'Pouring Over' situation where Call of Duty Elitist players will play battlefield and try to play it like CoD.Not that CoD is a bad game, it's just known for having a bad community, overpowered weapons and run-n-gun techniques that frustrate the hell out of anyone. Anyway this then causes those players to seep in and start filling the Battlefield community which is generally a bad thing. Most don't last long but I've had numerous angry messages with that typical 'CoD kid' sound to it getting replies that CoD is better and so on, and so forth... The CoD players will usually join in with all the others who are desperate for vehicles and will usually wait in the respawn menu for that one helicopter that spawns every 5 minutes only to crash it within 10 seconds causing half of your team to wait again. This game is not for the long wolf technique that Call of Duty has and requires teamwork and a regular basis to win. Squads allow for rapid deployment into the frontlines of the war and can be crucial if attacking a point when you're the last one alive. This adds fun to the game and variety. On the other hand there's one gun that shouldn't be allowed to be so powerful: The USAS-12 with frag rounds. Most servers I've seen ban it's use which is welcome but a lot of them still allow this abomination to live.Anyway this game is very fun if you get the right teams or just play with yuor friend(s) as 1 can be a sniping partner or a medic to revive you if you die while supressing the enemy. Team work offers new ways to play with intense action, destructable environments and tactical gear that cna make or break a battle such as smoke grenades and the SOFLAM targeter.Overall I LOVE this game even if it seems like I've said msotly bad things about it's probably because they are big issues that need a lot to udnerstand but believe me: this game is worthwhile!Get your mates, make a squad and stick together. Variety in your squad is essential and allows for interesting combinations (SOFLAM sniper + Javelin rockets!) Lots to unlock, an interesting campaign with some challenge without having to go on the hardest difficulty (for once) and incredibly good gameplay.A gaming essential for any FPS/Online fan!

Having played ''call of duty'' since it first came into existence, I have always been very impressed with the titles. Since ''world at war'' came out i have noticed that all the titles and graphics seem very much the same. So i decided for a change i will switch to ''Battlefield 3''. Probably the best decision i have ever made in all honesty.Story Mode:If your buying the game just for the story and do not have xbox live i suggest you buy a pre owned copy as story takes about 1-2 days. Don't get me wrong i always play the story first before online to get the hang of the game. Now the storyline is far better than ''call of duty'' as it does not seem over the top and is based on real life places ie Teahran. The story is full of suspense especially when your scanning rooms for enemys on your own with a flashlight. Graphically it is superb and any review on this saying graphics are rubbish i suggest you invest in an HDMI lead. The only issue is some points are glitchy but not unbearable.Online Mode:WOW.....makes ''COD'' look teeny tiny with no option how to approach the fight. The maps are gigantic not kidding one of the maps i had to drive a jeep around the map for about 2 mins just to get to an objective. With the maps being so large it lets you approach each level differently i.e sniping from a distance to provide cover or going and attacking the objective head on. Also what is nice is you dont immediatly show up on radars just becasue you fired a shot if you are in close quarters then you will show up on a radar, This is amazing as COD gives you no other option to fight but run in and attack head on. I would say it is very cinematic as running to an objective and watching your team mate flying close overhead followed by an enemy havin a dog fight in the sky. Also tanks got to watch out for those even in buildings they can pound walls off and still get to you which isnt good when your getting shelled off both tank and aircraft makes it more realistic. I enjoy the fact there is no stupid perks or kill perks like UAV or attack helicopters makes a very level playing field. You get expericne for dis arming bombs and helping team mates. Each kill feels like an achivement as every kill feels realistic not 1 hot sniper of uzi kill because real war is nothing like COD but more like battlefield.Overall i never rate games 10/10 but this deserves it. I normally play online for 1 hour or less and get bored and i am struggling to put this down.Forget bog standard boring call of duty and atleast give this a shot you wont regret it.

This is for the Xbox 360 version:Let me start by saying that I've been a big BF fan since 1942 on PC in 2002. I've played all incarnations (with exception to Bad Company 1) and after putting in at least 2000+ hours, I can safely say that BF3 is one hell of a game.I'm a seasoned gamer on both PC and Xbox and whilst you'll never get the pin point accuracy of a keyboard an mouse, this is a fantastic console shooter. Two things to consider:1:Single player, whilst enjoyable, is not the best aspect of the game. It pales in comparison to Battlefield bad company 2 and the likes of Call of duty, Modern Warfare (1 & 2), but it isnt the Naff game people have made out.you will still have hours of entertainment and the top notch graphics and playability are great fun, but dont expect anything ground breaking.2:Multiplayer;by far the greatest thing about the game! I've now clocked up 70 hours online and I can honestly say no map or battle is ever the same. The maps/level design are superb and help add a wonderfully authentic feel to the surroundings and add to the overall immersion of the game. There are plenty of maps with close quater combat is more favoured(Grand Bazaar, Seine Crossing) then some and big expansive maps like Caspian Border, firestorm, Sharqui Pennsiuler etc) more favourable for the snipers and vehicles. Being onine, there are people of different skills and abilities on every server. My favoured is Hardcore, when the damage is higher and you can kill(and be killed!) with much fewer hits. There are mutiple weapons and upgrades as you progress. The major draw of the battlefield games is in the vehicles, Tank commander one minute, fighter pilot the next, with humvee's , APC's, speedboats, Helcopters, Gadgets galore all i the mix.I emplore anyone who is not familar with the BF series or who may be doubting the game after playing the shockingly bad Beta(myself included, which caused me to cancel my pre-order!)to take the plunge and grab a bargain at £25. Its an awesome game , with real results available with team work (which is difficult to avoid, even for the lone wolves out there), Its not the same as a Call of duty or Halo Game, both great games in their ownright, but this is Battlefield, and in my eyes the most enjoyable and satisfying online shooter available to date, with FUN being the key factor!Good luck and see you on the battlefield! ;)

To review this game i have to go through what I said to friends. Get cod if you want a fast paced fighter game - though looking at MW3 reviews and comments seems the gun action has dropped in that also.Battlefield 2 online to me was slow, die and you spend 2 minutse getting back into the fray.Battlefield 3 has fixed this. And that makes it a good game.the campaign was touted to be awesome. Ok it looks good and good storyline, but its short and nothing special. the main game is online - which is why you will buy this game.People lack headsets online, although i have built up a friend base for this game of people who do teamplay and chat so its improved.at first i didnt like it.Tanks and vehicles have a huge dominance,so you end up dying from them unless you are engineer. Once you level up your classes a bit (5-10 horus of playing) this balances out. strategy has to be employed. and you get a lot of points from vehicles. This originally really annoyed me but you just end up avoiding them as a sniper, and marking them for allies/friends.Between deaths and games you cannot do anything. Nothing. 5 seconds of looking at the person who killed you in a really face on camera. Its pointless. Similarly between games there is a 60 second loading time or whatever. Nothing to do really. Once you get into kits etc you can take a look at them, but its still boring as hell sometimes.Bugs and glitches, yes some, but for a game this engine definitely has the advantage at the moment and has great gameplay. maps, theres very few but games last 20 minutes on most, so you have 2 hours of different maps for the most part. and different game modes employ different parts of the maps so its like completely new levels. The good pointsI like how in objective games the top person will often be the guy who goes for objectives not just campers who get kills. it encourages people to play the game as it should be done, rather than waiting out on killstreaks like on Modern warfare. It encourages teamplay which is what online should be to me. Communication and you will do better, and your team will.overall a great game when you get into it. they say 200 hours of gameplay to unlock everything, but i think its less. I'm at 100 and dont regret any.Maybe having more than 1 player on the console would be an improvement, but for the moment this is the best shooter game online.Enjoy

Personally I have screamed and shouted at this game in multi player. There are 100 Ranked Premium Players out there who seem to make sauce out of you and head off on another killing spree. But Battlefield can be about coming back and getting your 'moment'.Mine was seeing me and my team shot up by a nutter in a chopper. You couldn't shoot a missile at him because he had two engineers hanging on the sides repairing it. Tanks couldn't get a shot. So I decided to go after someone else - and that is the thing about Battlefield, it's big enough to do that. Loaded a jeep with C4 (yeah, sorry but had to.....) and went after a tank. And then came the 'moment'.The chopper was harassing a nearby tank of ours which in turn was being shot at by an enemy tank. So targeted enemy tank, jump out of jeep to set off C4, but jeep hits a rise I hadn't planned on and goes directly under the chopper............C4 and I felt a bit like Bruce Willis taking out the chopper with a car in Die Hard 4.In truth I have played most of the COD but actually preferred the single player missions. I think the BF3 Single Player is niggly and hard to play. But on Multi Player is when it comes into its own. Go online with a mate - in my case it will be one of my two sons in another room - and you have an absolute treat. Both my sons have excelled me. I still fight like a Noob but then you get a 'moment'.............I wish I could moan about the DLC but they come out beautifully spaced in Release Dates, add extra dimensions, depth and playing styles and areas. It's not like a Tiger Woods game where you buy it and within a day you get seven or eight new courses released which should have been on the disc. I'm as excited about End Game as the two boys. Mind, the whole thing is even better if you sign into Battelog on a PC and get your stats, compare, check weapons........nerd heaven. If you want a trial run look up some of the videos on You Tube - trolling snipers can be the fun one. There is such a delightful point about ejecting from a fighter to parachute down onto the sniper who has been niggling you all game on his high vantage point and......Ninja Stab you Filthy Animal!

I own both Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, both of which have some good characteristics. As people may know battlefield is generally based around teamwork while MW3 is a game where you can work on your own. I bought MW3 before Battlefield and I found it slightly difficult to get to grips with, however you would expect this with any new shooter game. First of all, I found it quite difficult to actually get the game (battlefield) set up; the process of actually being able to get online (in my opinion) is very long and slightly confusing compared to MW3. However, the Campaigns in both games are very good and although they might be fairly short they are also very fun. With this said, the main reason people buy games like Battlefield and MW3 is to be able to play online. MW3 offers a larger range of game types compared to Battlefield, however I found it was a lot easier and faster to get into a match on battlefield as sometime you can wait a fairly long time on MW3 to get into a game. Battlefield offers the player a chance to operate vehicles like tanks, helicopters and jeeps which can be a lot of fun if you can get your hands on one, but if not it can be slightly annoying when you're running around and all of a sudden you get killed by a tank. This can become quite repetitive and frustrating. I am not saying that this is the case all time, but that was just my experience! As I said MW3 offers a larger range of games types which are good fun and are easy to understand the objective. I personally like the weapon set ups on MW3 and I thought they looked more realistic than in Battlefield, but the graphics are slightly less better, but not too much to be complained about! So altogether, I can't really tell you that one game is better than the other, it's a matter of what you enjoy the most! MW3 offers a fast paced game that allows a player to work on their own with a large range of game types, while Battlefield 3 offers a more teamwork based game with larger maps and vehicles. Both games have positive and negative factors to them and I hope that this review has highlighted a couple for you and given you a bit more detail into the games! Thanks.

With the influx of top games released at the end of 2011 I certainly wasnt short of something decent to play. Having played mainly COD for my multiplayer kicks I wasnt sure about Battlefield 3. I played the Beta and was still not sure but took the plunge. Having had it since release I can happily say I prefer Battlefield 3 now to MW3.Mw3 just feels the same as previous titles where as Battlefield seems to have taken further steps to improve their game compared to Battlefield Bad Company which I played for a rented weekend. The single player is fine but its all about the multiplayer. Compared to COD I think it has better visuals, the sounds are excellent and it is much more fun and engaging to play.Rather than just a run and gun shooter you can play as you want in the big and small maps. Anytime I play COD I get frustrated with either lag or campers. It is crazy how some people play cod hiding in the darkest corner waiting for someone to run past. It does happen in BF3 too but no where near the extent of COD and because the maps are much larger and you can choose your spawn point it is easily not noticed. Not sure what some other reviews where talking about when mentioning bugs or colours on screen. I havnt encountered any problems. At least none that I can think off that have affected the gameplay. It does take a long time to rank up but once you get the weapons you are after you can concentrate on unlocking specific upgrades for that weapon.I have rarely encountered any lag either or if I have it has been unnoticeable. Compared to MW3 or Gears of War 3 where hit detection still seems to have problems. And I know Gears has dedicated servers but it still seems to suffer from lag.Anyway if you find yourself getting annoyed or bored at MW3 then try BF3. Judging by the reviews for MW3 alot of people are. For BF3 the maps are excellent, it has fun vehicles and its a genuine fun multiplayer experience. I havnt played MW3 for months now and unless they take dramatic steps for the next release I wont bother with it.Would also suggest getting the limited edition copy with the extra map pack as the maps are very good and worth it.

Battlefield is renouned for its amazing multiplayer & BF3 is no exception! I've followed the series since its 1942 days and it really is a multiplayer experience like no other; vechicles, destructable environments, unlocks, class-based gameplay, a huge emphasis on teamwork...it's not all about individual K/D ratios like another certain FPS on the market, with players that actually carry out their specific roles clocking up vast amounts of XP regardless & on many occasions turning the entire tide of battle. Imagine a team holding a capture point...with medics reviving fallen players & dropping medpacks, support classes resupplying your rapidly depleting ammo & pinning down the opposing force with heavy machine guns (if a bullet barely misses you montion blur disorientates your screen and forces you into cover), engineers are busy with keeping enemy tanks at bay, your snipers spotting & picking of those that do penetrate your defense from the opposite ridge...all the whilst your pilot hoovers above in a gunship ready to unleash awesome firepower below, add in the excellent visuals & sound engine and you'd be pretty much on the mark with the MP, EPIC or not???However, as good as it is, that is only half of the game...Single player has never been BF's strong point & some might say "who cares about SP? MP is what this game is about", well to be honest I do, many of my favourite games have excellent single player modes (i.e. Dead Space 1 & 2, the Mass Effect series, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare) in addition to fun multiplayer (COD4). It could have been a great campaign untilising all what Battlefield is known for; destructable environments, vechicles, large scale battles...I have nothing against linear gameplay as it often helps drive the plot but BF3 felt weak in comparison to its current rival Modern Warfare 3 (which, apart from being far too short had a great campaign).Nevertheless, the competitive & co-op multiplayer definately make up for BF3's shortcomings, if you've been a fan of the series or are beginning to tire of the run-n-gun of COD, Battlefield is the game for you, so I'll see you on the virtual Battlefield...
