Baldur's Gate: The Throne of Bhaal concludes the Baldur's Gate saga, picking up at the end of the previous game after your defeat of Irenicus, and progressing things to the very end of the Bhaalspawn saga. The expansion pack contains both extensions to the main quest and additions to Shadows of Amn. If you install it whilst you're playing SOA, or before you play it, you'll get the option to explore the Watcher's Keep area (which you can return to later) as well as playing to the very end of the saga.In principle, little has changed in terms of gameplay and graphics - the game looks as sleek and polished as in BG2:SOA, and it plays just as well. There are a few minor tweaks 'under the hood',such as the ability to highlight all 'interactive' elements in a scene, but essentially the main add-on is the ability of finish the saga, gain more experience, get more loot, better abilities and the high level 'special' abilities for characters, including scribing scrolls and making potions. You'll also gain additional unique skills as Bhaalspawn, including the ability to teleport yourself and your group to a 'pocket plane' where you can rest, heal and prepare spells before returning to the real world.Essentially, if you've played BG2, you'll want to know what happens next, and this game gives you does exactly that. That said, there are a few let downs. Whilst you do get more loot, skills and experience, the game doesn't bring anything radically new - it definitely feels like an expansion pack rather than the a new game. The super-abilities, especially for the mage, are handy, but feel a bit uninspired (barring 'improved alacrity', which allows you to keep casting spells continuously) - they basically all do super amounts of damage, but in a fairly uninspiring way. The thief skills aren't *that* useful - scribing low-level scrolls isn't that useful when your spellcaster is supercharged, and likewise potions and your cleric. It's also a bit odd to be able to play the Watcher's Keep sequence in the main game. Past the first level of the keep, the stages are exceedingly difficult - you'll keep dying for a bit and then leave and come back later in the game. It's useful inasmuch that you can gain more experience from it and gain access to the superskills before the end of BG2:SOA, but since you (probably) can't actually finish Watcher's Keep before finishing BG2: SOA, it seems a bit odd. That said, the new monsters and new stages are excellent - the loot is bigger and better than ever, and the characters just as endearing and / or annoying! It's excellent and very satisfying to play it right to the end, and you get some properly impressive skills. But whilst you'll love Shadows of Amn, you'll like the Throne of Bhaal. It's still a 4-star game, but it's a bit of a shame that it's not as impressive as its predecessor.

This was the LONGEST the MOST FUN games I have ever played! The original BG series was excellent in all of storyline, gameplay, music and stability. Now, nowadays, sequels usually mean a graphically-improved expansion (at best). BG2 is a rare exception of the sequel clearly SURPASSING the original. And in the case of such great original, this means a lot!Words fail to describe the perfect harmony of brilliant ideas, emerging story-line and detailed coding that makes this game an unsurpassed classic! Do not let the slightly outdated graphics discourage you. They were cutting edge only some years ago - and you will be able to unleash their full potential even on mid-range PCs!I have yet to meet anyone who has played it and not raved about it!Hard-core D&D fans will find the character building, fighting checks and balances and overall experience very close to the actual pen-&-paper games.Casual computer gamers will notice none of the tedious stuff of other cRPGs as the gameplay runs smooth and beautifully. You even have the choice to turn it into either a turn-based or an action game by tweaking the auto-pause options! I am telling you: this is how computers games should be!You will let yourself get lost in the deep dungeons of the labyrinthic story; you will be laughing out loud to the humorous dialog; you will be surprised as to who is a double and triple-agent.There is an evil beyond imagining unleashed and only you with your party can stand in its way.Party members offer a multitude of unpredictable balancing points and diverging story-lines of their own: side quests, conflicts and love affairs enrich the story in so many original ways!An unsurpassed classic!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Graphics- Pre rendered scenes are beautiful, spells look great and fantastic (except fireball)Music- The music is emotive and exciting at times. Especially the bhallspawn battle music.Sound- The sound effects used for battle are realistic but the battle cries can be a little repetitive. Good voice acting.Gameplay- Level raising aspects are great, especially if youve played since BG1.Story- Only makes sense if youve played the rest of the series. Exciting nonetheless. The end comes a little to quickly but the plot is full of twists unlike the others in the series. The ending FMV's are nice and cinematic.Conclusion- A must-have for lovers of the genreand Baldur's Gate players. Not really suggestable for someone new to the series, but could possibly tempt non-rpg fanatics. Overall a very nice and playable game. Does the series justice.

Baldurs Gate 2 is by far the finest RPG i have ever played. I have now completed the add on. This provides new depths to the genre. The new quests are awesome as are the new monsters. The character abilities as they climb to new heights of power are awesome. I thought with my high powered characters i would find it easy. I will sum it up in the spells resurrection and raise dead. They rapidly became my spells of choice. Please don't let that put you off for it is all part of the challenge. Finding new ways of destroying powerful monsters adds to the fun. Finally i would like to say i am playing the whole game again and still finding new things missed in previous games. This is a worthy conclusion to the best RPG so far released.

The Baldur's Gate series has been amazing and the expansion for BG II provides you with many new opportunities. The abilities gained with each level include Quest level (ie post 7) spells for Clerics, Level 10 spells for your spellcasters as well as fighting and rogue abilities that have turned my friends green with envy! With the increase in experience points, it is nice to be able to start the expansion alone with 2.5 million plus exp! The items you find are as interesting as ever and boy, do you need them! The fights are hard enough to challenge you without sending you insane with frustration. The plot so far has been simple but oh boy... the toys!

Baldurs Gate 2 was already one of my favourite Games, so I was very excited when I heard Bioware were bringing out an expansion. I was not let down!!! The game was absolutely fantastic. The new Wild Mage character is fantastic, The new The new senarios are excellent and the storyline is Bioware's best yet!!! Unlike Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter expansion there are outside quests as well as the main story. The game is chalenging yet not impossible, the graphics are as good as ever and the new spells are fantastic!!! All in all, a great game!!!!

I have waited for this release in the UK for some time and, well, the wait was worth it. A quick flick through the manual and playing around with the load options shows how much thought has gone into making this the true crowning glory of the whole Bhaal saga. At last Bioware have allowed you to see the characters moving on the area map (aka Icewind Dale). The introduction of skills and high level spells is an inspired idea.Anyway, i've been away from the game for far too long.......

If you played Balders 1 and 2 - you HAVE to buy this. Its not a huge game - I finished it in a weekend, but for that its excellent. My character is now a good god! I shall miss all my npc's they became friends. Its nice to have a resume of their lives at the end. Oh and that elf - can I have him for keeps??? He's just sooooo cute!Anyway. If you like Balder's Gate, you'll love this, but have tissues ready at the end - its always sad to say goodbye to your characters

More of the same stuff we came to love in Baldurs Gate 2, same quality as the original game. You man want to start up a new game to experience all the new stuff (though it's mostly endgame stuff). Highly recommended!

A fitting end to the Baldurs Gate trilogy. Far and away the best series of games ever made for the PC or any other platform (IMHO).
