After having a metal stair gate in my kitchen doorway for 28 years (mum & childminder) and tripping over the bottom rail & having bruises on legs from walking into sides due to narrow opening - I love my new wooden stair gate, with nothing to trip over and a full width to walk through. My husband found it easy to install. It is supposed to be able to be opened with one hand but I am finding that I press the button with one hand and lift the gate with the other hand but maybe this is because I'm not used to it yet. Also looks much nicer than my old white metal gate.

Bought 2 of these to keep our dogs out of dining room when we bought 3 kittens as they were eating their food....and some :-/Quite easy to fit-well worth spending the time to adjust so gate stays open instead of closing by itself. When measuring space to open-please remember to include silver screw in catch, I didn't but was lucky it cleared the bottom of our fishtank with mm to spare!!Easy to use catch once you get used to it.Seems strong & robust so far (fitted 3 weeks ago).Recommend item.

Installing these in a doorway is a doddle. Templates are supplied to help position the fixings. Works on stairs tooOnce installed they are fixed more solidly than a pressure fit gate. It will not accidentally come loose or open.It can be fitted to swing one direction or both.To open/close it you lift the gate as you press the catch. This can be done one-handed, but it will not swing shut by itself. The gate can easily be removed without removing the fixings.

Bought this for my stairs to stop our dogs getting up. This one doesn’t have a bar at the bottom, so you can’t trip over it as you go through, (I had a nasty injury previously when tripping over a stair gate). Having had a few stair gates over the years, this one was more difficult to assemble and instructions are not great but once we got the hang of it, it was ok. Really pleased with both how it looks, and how easy it is to use. Overall very pleased with it.

Downsides - it does not feel quite as sturdy as the metal gates available and drilling is required. The lack of bar at floor or ground level was the reason we bought this, as the only place we could fit a gate is midway across a step/ stair, which meant we had to twist a foot to fit or step up or down two stairs, neither ideal when carrying the toddler.Care must be taken to drill in the right places, a paper guide is included. About 15 minutes to fit.

This is a gate that has hinges that screw to the wall and stairs. If you are fixing to anything other than wood then you need to get decent screws and rawl plugs and need a drill. Instructions are over complicated, but it is actually quite simple to fit with a bit of common sense, and you can adjust the gaps either side of the gate as it is on adjustable bolts. Gate looks good and works well , easily openes one handed, and no bar on step to trip over

I wasn't expecting much given the price, and all we wanted it for was to stop the dog going upstairs, but this is actually pretty good. It does everything it says.It was a bit of a pain to install, but would be relatively easy if you were putting it in-between a doorway as shown in the picture, or lived in a house where the walls and staircase were level!Got there in the end though and it is now stopping muddy paws going where they shouldn’t!

We found this gate easy to fit and fully opens against the wall. Adults can walk through without tripping and you can carry bags through etc. without getting stuck on the sides as happens with other safety gate designs. We use it to stop the puppy escaping at work but would be ideal for home on doorways and stairs. If you don't mind the fixtures being drilled into the wall or door frames etc. I would definitely recommend this product.

I'm really impressed with this gate it looks nice in the wood, looks more expensive than it is and is easy to use - no bar to trip over and means you still have the whole width of the doorway to use e.g you can still get the buggy through the door. I had to replace my last gate as my little one worked out how to open it and let the baby crawl out !This one is too hard for him to do but easy for me to use one handed so I'm happy !

Bought this to keep our puppy from going upstairs. I went for this wood finish in the end (as it was on promotion), which looks really nice. You can fit the gate so it opens inwards or outwards, and opening from the left or right, so very versatile. The gate is sturdy and well made, and the closing catch is easy to use. It's been in use for about a month now and works well for it's intended purpose. Just need to keep it closed!

Much better than the tension variety as this doesn't leave a trip hazard along the floor. It does require screwing into the wall or doorframe but this is doesn't take long with the provided screw-hole templates. Operating is simple but a little stiff at first. Perhaps this is intentional to stop children's hands from using it. Overall a good purchase and the wood finish looks much better than the plastic-covered metal variety.

The gate is lightweight compared to others as it is wooden and non-adjustable width, so no duplication of material. Installation is, I assume, very similar to other drill-in gates. There is a handy drilling template but instructions lack any wording so it took a while to work out that the templates give the precise drill locations relative to the floor. The fittings feel a bit 'plasticky' but seem to work smoothly for now.

Do find it a little disconcerting to discover that someone has been into the package before me! It so happens that all the bits were there. Sorry Argos, but if a previous purchaser has made a mistake ( and to be honest there is no excuse for them to do so) then there should be some indication and in extreme cases the item should be discounted. ,Not being picky but 'new' should be in original sealing as it left the factory!

I bought this for my kitchen as we have just got a puppy. It's perfect, took a bit of time fitting, just a case of fitting a paper template to the wall so the fixings are level. The only thing we forgot was a tiny piece which operates for lock mechanism, but wasn't a problem we were able to fit it by unscrewing the fitting and popping it in. Looks nice and easy to open one-handed. Very pleased, good value.

This is a very good baby gate for those who want a full-width opening and/or no sill to trip over. The build quality of the gate itself is excellent and it's incredibly easy to fit.The only area it drops marks is the release mechanism. It works, but is a bit fiddly and doesn't always engage (lock) as well as it could.Saying that it was good value at approx £25 and I'd definitely recommend it.
