I've played about 15 hours of Atelier Firis so far and although this game isn't as good as Atelier Sophie, it's still great fun. The main problem that drags it down is the return of the main clock. In Atelier Sophie you were free to roam to your hearts content without having to worry about deadlines, but in Firis with every action you take the clock is ticking down to the main event. It means that you can't truly get lost in the big open world that they've created because you need to make sure that you've completed certain tasks before the deadline. Previous Atelier games have had this mechanic too, but they were usually a series of smaller tasks each with their own time limit, rather than a big vague task with a longer time limit. This makes it harder to figure out if you're on track or falling behind.Synthesis is still fun, which is one of the main draws of the game, although it has added a grindier aspect in that you have to make a certain type of item a number of times in order to get traits to properly pass along. This can be a bit frustrating but it's not a deal breaker. The combat has also slowed down a bit compared to Atelier Sophie, however it does have an interesting mechanic in that the weapons and armour you equip can give you extra skills to use in battle. The new open world concept is interesting. The execution isn't perfect, but it does add an extra level of exploration. In previous Atelier games after a while there were maps that I absolutely never went to, whereas in this one you have to travel all over the place pretty often and set up your atelier as you go. I hope that they find a way to refine this concept in future games, because it's a really cool idea that I'm surprised they haven't tried until now.The characters are pretty standard for the series, but I did find the English voice acting incredibly annoying and grating, especially for Firis herself. I had to switch to the Japanese voice acting because it was less screechy than the English voice track and I just couldn't listen to it any longer.

Fans of the series know the best things about the Atelier games are the addictive gameplay, the great characters and the beautiful art style and music. Now add to that a beautiful and varied open world with huge fields, beautiful sights, dynamic weather and time, and lots (and I mean lots) to do and explore, and a heavy focus on exploration and discovery. The result? An excellent game that is at the same time classic Atelier and a fresh experience at the same time.

I've only played Rorona and Sophie, but they are some of my favourite games, and this one is outstanding. In term of world size and exploration think of it like this. Sophie is Dragon age 2 and Firis is Dragon age 3. Large open areas, multiple towns, some on the field maps. It also seem this one has a more coherent story that doesn't progress through days passing. Feels like a normal RPG, just with everything that makes Atelier, Atelier.

An excellent game and a worthy addition to the Atelier series, though it still does not quite match up to the Arland trilogy. Very glad to see the time limit come back after it didn't make an appearance in Sophie, giving you some added pressure to spend your time wisely (though worth noting that the time limit is extremely forgiving).Overall, better than Atelier Sophie but not quite as good as the Arland trilogy and Escha / Logy

Fun game in the series. Interesting new features. Graphics are okay. Story can seem a little long at times. Traditional turn based RPG combat for those that love that.

If you liked the previous Atelier Sophie, you'll enjoy this.Similar mechanics, graphical style, quest design, etc, but all in all a decent game

Officially my favourite atilier games. Love it all. The "game" is a little short but once "complete" it's open up massively. Fantastic.
