Before I continue on with the review I’d first like to say that in the past 5 years, I’ve owned monitors using the three major panel technologies: TN, VA and IPS. I’m well aware with all of the limitations and advantages of these types of displays offer so I believe this review should be fairly unbiased and well informed. The Asus VG27WQ is a superb monitor for more than one reason, the colour reproduction is extremely wide and thanks to the fact it uses a VA panel, it produces black levels and contrast that only OLEDs can surpass. The contrast is excellent and the viewing angles are good, but not amazing. This really shouldn’t be an issue though since curved displays require you to sit in front of them to get the optimum viewing angle.Believe it or not, curved displays do really make quite a big difference in monitors. This is because it minimizes distortion in your peripheral vision. If you have a large panel, panning your eyes horizontally causes distortion as the edges of the display are further way from you compared to the centre. This does not happen to the same extent with curved screens as it brings those corners closer to you. I definitely recommend curved screens for monitors but not TVs as you’d literally have to be sitting very close to them for that effect to work. Some creative professionals may want to stick to a flat screen though as really you need a flat panel to review certain types of work.As a gaming monitor though, VA may be concerning for some as typical high-refresh rate and VA panels (IPS to a greater extend) don’t mix. Generally VA panels aren’t quite as good as TN panels when it comes to perceived responsiveness due to smearing which occurs when the panel refreshes at a high rate. There is some smearing present with the VG27WQ but it really isn’t too bad and Asus’ “Trace Free” feature works very well. Additionally, VA and IPS typically offer much better colour reproduction and contrast than TN panels, so honestly unless all you’re doing is competitive gaming, TN doesn’t make any sense at all. There is actually a second variant in the VG27 range (there may be more but I’ve not researched those). You may have heard of the VG27AQ when researching this particular monitor as it’s much much much more popular than the WQ, except it is an IPS panel rather than VA panel. Even though technically IPS gives you slightly better viewing angles than VA, it’s definitely not worth it over this variant:VG27WQColour Saturation: 120% (sRGB)Contrast Ratio: 3000:1Curved: 1500RMax Brightness: 400 cd/m2HDR: VESA DisplayHDR 400, HDR 10Panel Type: VASync Technologies: Adaptive VsyncVG27AQColour Saturation: 99% (sRGB)Contrast Ratio: 1000:1Curved: NoneMax Brightness: 350 cd/m2HDR: HDR 10Panel Type: IPSSync Technologies: Adaptive Vsync, GSYNCAs you can see, you’d have to be mad to get the IPS variant as it’s pretty much inferior in every way other than the fact it has Gsync. From what I’ve seen of Gsync in person, it doesn’t differ to adaptive or FreeSync in any noticeable way. It is simply a proprietary technology created by Nvidia with a lot of marketing behind it. Also Gsync does not work on AMD GPUs so honestly I’d take Adaptive Vsync any day over it.Surprisingly HDR does work very well indeed; I owned two Samsung monitors less than a year ago and had to return them both (one after the other) due to dead and stuck pixels and a non functioning DisplayPort connector. There were also almost twice the price of the VG27WQ... HDR actually looked worse than conventional SDR on those and it suffered from pretty intense backlight strobing. The contrast also dropped dramatically on the Samsungs when in HDR mode so it completely negated the feature all together. Those were VA QLED panels, so sufficed to say I was a bit nervous in purchasing another VA panel in case it turned out to be one of these hellish Samsung QLEDs in disguise :)Luckily that is definitely not the case, playing Doom Eternal with HDR enabled looked significantly better than without. The contrast ratio and extra colour HDR gives you is absolutely stunning in person, I was blown away by it given how shoddy my experience had been with HDR had been previously. You’d probably only fin d a better HDR experience on a far more expensive display to be completely honest, or on an OLED TV. Again the IPS variant of the monitor supports a lesser HDR standard and has a worse colour reproduction, so I can only assume that HDR will not be that great on the AQ.I’ve had no dead/stuck pixels and the backlight consistency is very good, it can be hard nowadays to find monitors that aren’t defective in some minor way or another so I thought this was definitely worth mentioning. Asus should be extremely happy with their engineering team and suppliers about this, I just wish they’d handed out more review units of this type as I literally could find nothing review-wise about these displays.Overall the VG27WQ is one of the best panels you can buy for the price both for gaming and for media consumption. The colour reproduction is fantastic and the consistency of the panel is very hard to match which should not be taken for granted. HDR actually works and for a curved display, the footprint of the display is small yet the build quality and stability is solid. I wish that there was at least one review of this monitor (I suppose I’m the first)... it’s a shame how its existence was essentially nullified by the more expensive twin in its range. Stay away from the AQ panel unless you like paying more for worse specifications and for the ability to use GSYNC.Is the VG27WQ worth the money? Absolutely.Do I have any regrets buying it? Zero.

Bought this as an alternative to using my tv for connecting my PS4.Setup was straight forward and initial inpressions were good. Works perfect with PS4, screen has great colours and depth and that was with the preset game mode within the monitors picture settings. The monitor is very light and picture is great, sharp and clear no issues.Make sure you sit an correct level or some of the screen can go dark but when on a table or desk it’s not really noticeable.Only issue is that is has no headphone socket or optics connection only a audio in for if using the supplied vga cable, the speakers that are built in are very tinny, you can therefore only use headphones is you use the headphone socket from the PS4 controller, this does allow you to connect external speakers using the controller which makes all the difference.Apart from this issue I am very happy with the monitor and would recommend to any gamer who wants to improve their set up and get the immersive gameplay that a small screen gives.5* for me and for £159 you cannot get better for full hd display and 1ms response as well as 100,000,000 contrast ratioExcellent buy

For the price, this monitor is outstanding. You NEED to spend some time calibrating it to suit your needs, but once you figure out the settings, this screen is gorgeous. Fantastic for gaming - the vivid pixel option greatly enhances the detail on your screen. However, do not crank it up too high, it is perfect at 25 - 50 without overdoing it.I suggest keeping this feature off for when using the screen as an extension to your pc/laptop to minimize pixellation. The next section is specific to owners of the PS4 slim (or any other console that does not have a toslink connector) - this monitor was a bit of a handful as it does not have a 3.5mm jack to directly connect to speakers or headphones. You will need at the very least an HDMI splitter to split out the sound through a tosslink connector if you have a supported headset or speakers. In my case I had neither, so I further had to invest in a DAC.

It's bright, has great vertical adjustment, high refresh rate, nice resolution - damn near perfect. But I have had a couple of issues:- in sRGB mode it had some trouble displaying red text on black - it looked like a sharpness filter issue possibly, but it was unreadable. In other modes it was fine. I ended up using "Racing" mode.- it seems to flicker a bit when games switch display modes for full screen etc - it's only brief and doesn't really impact my enjoyment of the screen.Notes:- HDR and Freesync compatibility with nVidia graphics cards requires a 1000 series or above - my otherwise fantastic 980 Ti cannot run this screen in variable refresh mode or HDR400.I'll have to wait until I upgrade my graphics card before I can fully enjoy this monitor's capabilities, though I can at least run at a high refresh rate and 1440p.

I bought this monitor to use with an Xbox One and found no way to control the audio volume from the monitor speakers. Problem is, the video/audio set up on the Xbox is designed for a TV. It does not provide a simple volume control, as normally you would use the TV remote for that. But model VP278H lacks a volume control, presumably because it is aimed at a typical Windows desktop PC user with volume control in the taskbar. Catch 22! You might expect the monitor speakers to be muted when a headset is plugged into an Xbox controller but that isn’t the case. However the good new is, get the VP278QG which (according to the published spec )does have volume control Although it’s a bit more expensive.

I bought this as I wanted to create a gaming space and saw this screen. It looks great and is really well made. I have been using the xbox one x on this and it has actually enhanced my gaming experience. The screen does support hdr10, 4k as well as fast frame rate etc. The screen has a 1ms response time and is ideal for first person shooters. I am yet to experience any tear, lag or bleed in the screen and I dont think I will. If you are looking for a gaming monitor, you should think about buying this, it is great. You will need a large desk though as it is big, I bought the curved 32". Love this product, thanks asus.

A very good product for the money. Large, clear screen with very good definition. Used mainly for word processing activities, and here the on-screen menu for choice of display formats (columns, pages, etc.) is excellent. Two things to be aware of though. (1) the monitor is controlled by hard to see small buttons under the front panel. I have worked-around this by installing a program by Nirsoft that transfers the control to the computer keyboard. (2) the on-board speakers are very weak in tone, dynamic range and column. If you want sound use external speakers.Otherwise, a great buy.

Right so like what a lot of other people have experienced, the colour balance right out the box is bad. But once you set up the colours correctly (I changed a few settings in nvidea control panel), this thing is great. Games that supoort HDR like RDR2 look great on this thing and its so good to have both 1440p and high refresh rate. Biggest down side I can think of is that brightness isn't that great with HDR on in games. So besides a bit tuning of the settings here and there, its a great monitor for the price

First impressions WowI have been using an old Dell 22 inch monitor for years so the size was a big plus, easy to assemble out of the box easy to set up to my my old computer,I play battle field 5 and to be honest I'm not that good but with this monitor and my old gforce 760 it's like a new game I can see in amazing detail, this is some thing I have put off because of the cost but actually wish I had done ages ago,So build quality yesPicture quality yesCost well worth it.

This is my second monitor of this type- the first is still in use, I bought the second cos I liked the first so much. Good value for money, and I find the picture quality excellent. I do a lot of work with graphs and need to read from a screen as well, so this offers me the ability to get a nice clear picture/graphs and read stuff (if I have to) from the screen It works straight out of the box no problems at all with setting up. To me the price point is good as well.

Curates egg. Delivery spot on, product was a tad disappointing finish wise. The controls are just a nightmare with no remote. I would probably chosen another product in-store after a touchy feel demo but it's for office use and the unit does deliver a crisp picture. The user likes it. I will now test ASUS customer service people and see if they can help me adjust the controls which are hard to use and even harder to understand as there is no handbook.

Great as a console screen if you're having one with FHD (not 4K) output. Never noticed any lagging. Profiles (called "Splendid") are useful for gaming, reading text or standard use. Blue light filter seems to work well, never felt my eyes tired with this monitor.Has two HDMI and one VGA inputs, useful with older devices. The stand is non-adjustable for height and a bit wobbly. That's the only downside we noticed so far.

Brilliant screen, nice and bright with no flickering. I have deducted one star because of the leads supplied. I received 2 x 'screen to socket'' leads (?) but was missing the HDMI to CPU lead. When I rang customer support, I was told that the screen does not come with all the leads needed. Luckily my old screen lead fitted, but it seems a bit cheap not to have all the relevant leads included

I ordered this as I played a lot on my 15.6 laptop and wanted something bigger in order to shoot players, not pixels. I like the size very much but the picture quality, being a TN pannel, it let me down. The gradients are very visible and the blacks are only there when the screen is off. But it is a very responsive screen and after thinking of returning it, I went for the keeping.

Such a great monitor!Great picture quality. I mostly play games and i was kinda worried if its gonna be too big, coming from 24" to 32" but its actually pretty good and easy to get used to.The 1ms in the title is a bit misleading, its actually 4ms but rly i can barely notice when playing battlefield titles.Hdr is beatiful. You wont regret buying this monitor.
