The most hardcore racing sim on consoles won't be for the vast majority of gamers, but if you are the type of person for whom Project CARS is just not real enough, Assetto Corsa might just be the game for you.KUNOS Simulazioni seem to have decided that getting the basics right is the most important thing, because at the moment, the features are pretty basic. Not even any leaderboards or private lobbies. However, what's there seems to work well, so KUNOS' choice seems to have paid off (rather that than filling a game full of broken features).I understand from those that have played the PC game that the physics have been ported over faithfully. This is great news,as many thought that the game would be dumbed down for console players (although there is a new user interface for console). The highlight of AC is it's physics model. The handling is second to none (on console, remain calm iRacing fans) in terms of realism. I speak as someone who's both driven and been driven around Silverstone in some pretty amazing cars on many occasions. Okay, so the effect of G forces and the danger element may not be there, but everything else is pretty much on the money.I play on a pad (I'm not proud of it, but I don't have the money or space for a wheel) and even though the handling is challenging, it's not hard to get a feel for the cars and the game is very playable on a pad (easy to learn, but hard to master - just as it should be). However, those with a wheel and pedal set-up will certainly get the most out of AC.For those that say AC is more of a simulation than a game (e.g. it's not much fun), I couldn't agree less. I haven't played a game - never mind a racer - for quite some time that had the "just one last go" addictive feeling that AC has.At the moment, the single player aspect is fairly basic and therefore online seems to be the way to go. Thankfully, this seems remarkably solid. My first night's experience of racing online was surprisingly positive. The racing seems to be server based, rather than P2P and is fairly stable (although I did see a bit of lag now and again). There are no private lobbies yet, so you have to choose from what's available. I actually really like the lobbies. For example, you want a GT3 lobby? No problem. Only GT3 cars allowed and only a certain amount of each car so that the field is as mixed as possible (and unlike Project CARS, KUNOS knows that a GT2 car is not a GT3 car). This is a brave feature and one that I hope that doesn't get watered down in the future. What's more...and this is really important...the community seems really well behaved. Yes, there was a bit of carnage at the start (no rolling starts yet), and a few taps here and there, but in general people really behaved themselves, even moving over for blue flags. The carnage I put down people not being used to the game - especially the starts - rather than deliberate bad driving. Great to see and so unusual. This is not to say that online doesn't have it's flaws. You can only race the car and track combinations that are available on the server, which will frustrate some and as I said above, there is currently no facility to create private races, clubs are really going to struggle to run events. There doesn't appear to be a way to customise the controller beyond the 3 offered presets. These issues need to be addressed or AC will be in trouble in the long term.If I like it so much, why only 4 stars? The current lack of features is a bit of an issue. I understand why they did it though, to provide the most stable platform to build on, so I can forgive KUNOS for that. There is a £25 season pass available, for 30 upcoming cars and at least one track (including 2 Porsche packs and the Red Bull Ring) which is not too unpalatable considering the game is basically a budget title. So that's about it. If having lots of features, tonnes of cars and tracks, painting and / or modding your cars, weather or other features that the likes of Gran Turismo or Forza offer is important to you, then AC is likely not to be the one. Save your cash for GT Sport or even Forza Horizon if you are an XB owner, both of which are out later in the year. For those who like their racing as real as possible and nothing else matters, you can do a lot worse that AC.

There are a lot of mixed opinions here, some valid others not.First off, I'd straight up not recommend you to buy this unless you have a wheel and pedals. It is a simulation game, made for wheel and pedals. Sim games also don't usually have fleshed out careers, or progression with unlocks. That model doesn't fit sim games where we want to race all cars not progress through them. Careers can be handled better such as on Project Cars, however most people just set up their own races and just do laps. The graphics and performance, isn't great. It looks nice in ways but other parts don't, it could do with a bit more polish. Also the frame rate drops at times and screen tearing is present, this shouldn't be happening on these new consoles with games of this standard. Some things look very good, such as car detail and replays.A disappointment for me is the lack of weather and night time races. Also the damage model is pathetic really. The actual races don't seem that ...realistic? in terms of options and settings either. There is a distinct lack of settings in the game no steering and pedal deadzones and saturation, I don't know why this is missing from a sim racer it boggles the mind. There is also a lack of cars and tracks with the game releasing with a Season Pass already.. the PC version already has most if not all of this content plus mod support so this is pretty bad to at £25 to get extras which should of been in the game at launch. So why after all this negativity 4 stars? Because my friends, this is a racing/driving sim and it has a damn fine physics model, the cars have weight and just react well to the track and your driving, I hope with a few patches this will improve further bringing it upto speed with Project Cars which is still by far the superior game.Oh and another point the sound of the cars is amazing on this, the audio levels of music in the menus needs to be turned down because its far too loud, but the sounds of cars in game is spot on.In summary - If you want a realistic driving simulator and have a wheel and pedals, get project cars, if you already have project cars but fancy something similar then you will likely enjoy this. If you like Gran turismo and drive club, this isn't comparable.

When I first played this game, I was very disappointed. The menus and overall presentation were sub standard compared to other games in this genre. The game also had a number of bugs and performance issues, which are still present, even after the day one patch. The career mode I felt was, and is extremely difficult, even when playing on easy, and it doesn't really feel fun and enjoyable to play or very rewarding, as all the cars are unlocked from the get go anyway. However having spent some time actually playing the game, I have to admit it really has grown on me, and I think it's a real gem of a racing simulation. The biggest problem however is the steep learning curve, it is extremely difficult to play, and probably impossible to master in my lifetime, given the limited time I have to play and practise. It is such a shame that Kunos Simulazioni, did not make the game more accessible to beginners and casual gamers alike, as this game could have had a much bigger audience, and would have been much more appealing to the mainstream. I am not the best at racing games myself, and I only use a controller, but I do like my racing games. The game is playable after making adjustments to the various stetting's, but even then, it is by no means an easy game to play or get into. Hopefully future updates will improve on things. I feel it is a good solid game, just not for the faint hearted, after all its a real racing simulation through and through. There is enjoyment to be had from this game, but you have to work at it, I guess what you put in, is what you get out,Anyway my advise to anyone else considering purchasing this game would be to read all the reviews you can, watch all the videos you can and then if you still think you want this game, do yourself a favour and ask yourself "Do I really need this game?"If after all of these things, you still think you fancy buying the game, then you will at least be in a better position as to what to expect.Happy Racing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This game will get a lot of hate for all the wrong reasons. If your the kind of person who plays racing games causally and use all or part of the assists on offer this game will not be for you.In this game there is no breaking assist, no steering assist, no cornering assist. There is a stability assist which gives you little help, and ABS assist which again is little help. This game is for the hardcore racer and not the arcade racer. It is hard to keep a straight line when you put your foot down, you will fly off the track in the corners if you hit them to hard, there is plenty of over and under steer when racing around a track at speed. And you will need to grind lap after lap to learn how each car handles and master each track to put a good lap time down. This is a fantastic real racing sim, yes the graphics aren't the best, but what real sims are....But the developers have got it right where it's needed, every car sounds and handles different and the Ai can be tough in each race. This isn't a game for the faint hearted. The track and car detail are spot on and there is enough content to keep you going for a good while.I love this game, it isn't easy to pick up, and you will have to put some time in to master, and that is why I think this game will get a lot of bad reviews and a lot of hate, as it seems to be the norm now to pick up a game and complete it the same day without to much of a challenge. But this is a great game, but maybe for the select few who are willing to put the time into it and master it.

I've been playing racers for quite some time but on console nothing has ever been a true 'simulation' until Assetto Corsa. Play Gran Turismo Sport for a laugh, play Project Cars 2 for a wide selection of cars and tracks but play this for true racing immersion.Take your time when you first start up though, whilst being a fully qualified engineer isn't necessary it pays to read the advice on the setup screen. Take your selected car for a sighter and then set the thing up to suit your style. I'm by no means the worst online racer, usually lapping with the leaders but even with my limited knowledge of the mechanics I got lap times to drop further by playing with some setup tweaks.AC is very unforgiving so if you're picking this up expecting something akin to GT Sport you'll be disappointed. In one race I was threatening to take places but my over zealousness in an overtake that wasnt on cost me places. Concentration is key, dont let that put you off though, it sounds very serious but the sense of achievement at earning a 4th place after battling is immense. Seriously, this game isnt always about a victory, like real motorsport you'll be expected to respect the cars limits but by pushing to them a 4th can feel like victory.Assetto Corsa is the best and closest sim on console. Only PC does it better. Must buy for racing fans.

Other reviewers are rating the game based on what it's not, and amusingly what it doesn't try to be.So I am going to review it on what it is!Menus are crisp and easy to navigate, I found career mode to be good fun. Firstly you will be tasked with completing time trials, and then quick races on the same track with a goal of placing in the top 3. Events seperated into series 4 of each difficulty each event can range from 4-8 races. So there is plenty to do in career. Cars handed noticeably different straight away. There is also online multiplayer for up to 16 racers and drifters and thus far this seems to be running extremely smooth.Other modes included, Special events, quick race, race weekend, drift, time attack, hot laps and practice. The games looks are acceptable, and that does not mean they are bad its visually fantastic but it's no driveclub in regards to visuals. If I had to use a phrase to sum up the game it would simply be, "Quality over quantity". People are complaining about what is not in the game, but what is in the game it does seriously well. Are we really going to give the game a low score because it didn't make you feel like a champion for winning a series when the racing was fun? I hope not!

The best racing sim I have played on the ps4 (and any other format for that matter), it has it's flaws, screen tearing, frame rate dips, and needs a patch to sort out the AI going into the pits on the last lap, etc. but this is all forgiven due to the feel that you get when driving, it's amazing! The new standard in feed back and realistic handing. And when chasing cars and clipping apexes, it looks stunning! If you want a truly great driving experience and put handling and physics as your number one priority, this game is for you! 10 out of 10. (reviewed using T500rs and game racer sim-rig)PS - if you intend getting a wheel, and have a set budget,I recommend a good rig £200 - £250 (game racer cost me £175 almost ten years ago and I have probably done over 500,000 virtual miles in it) and a low cost wheel, DFGT, maybe a good used one £30-£70, (I still have my DFGT and its fantastic) rather than a £300 wheel and using a desk! once you are bolted in a good driving position where the wheel and peddles don't move, the racing is on a new level, for any driving game.

If you are the sort of person that likes Need for Speed then Assetto Corsa is NOT for you. Likewise if you intend on ruling the racing sim world with your game pad this game again is NOT for you.I have got both Assetto Corsa and Project Cars and I can tell you off the bat that Project Cars looks better in terms of graphics, but the Gran Turismo series was never the world leader in visuals, it spent its money on getting the physics right and that is were Assetto Corsa currently rules the pack.It is deliberately difficult to master but very satisfying when you get it right, currently playing with a G29 and the feedback and the feeling of weight transfer through the wheel is uncanny and can onlybe thoroughly exploited if you have actually driven a vehicle at high speed in real life.Cons: Visuals could be better, complete lack of vehicles to choose from, annoying that you have to buy extra DLC.Pros: Ultra realistic feedback when using a decent racing wheel.

Graphics are ok, Car and track physics the best on console .Yes it has issues, and those saying project cars is better, ahem.!! I got project cars on day one.It was broken , cars running around the track without wheels ......remember that..!I believe Assetto corsa will be patched as and when .As a true driving experience it really is excellent. Love it or hate it , this sim is ground breaking and is Not an arcade game. It's a marmite release. As many love it as hate it, going by the star rating.I got this as a sim racer, and am enjoying the experience.Of course I would like to see patches to make it better, the PC version is a testament to what this sim should be.Dirt Rally was as near to the PC version as it could be,but that's because it had a huge development team.Kudus developers are a small bunch of passionate developers that will no doubt in my mind work just as hard on this version, as they did on the PC version .

Amazing simulator, perfect in every detail.BUT... let me suggest you to NOT but it if you don't have a racing wheel, and you are not planning to buy one. With a game pad, driving the available cars will prove to be really challenging. With a racing wheel you will be way more precise. This is a simulator, before being a game. No fancy interface, no weird tournaments or driving modes. Only racing. Both online or versus the AI. The AI will mark lap over lap at the best of its ability, so you'll pay every single mistake. So, of you want an excellent simulator, and you are planning to use it as a simulator, this is the game for you. So looking anywhere else. Just hit the "order now" button and wait for it.You'll be amazed. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a racing game, well, look at Gran Turismo or anywhere else, this jewel is not for you.

If like me you think the more realistic the driving game the better, then absolutely forget GT Sport. It is not (as it claims to be) the real driving simulator. This is. The driving realism is far superior. AC is a true sim whereas GT Sport is Simcade. I played and was loyal to the Gran Turismo series for years to the point I didn’t even try other games apart from Dirt Rally and the F1 games. I was a fool. The is without question the undisputed King of console driving games. Challenging yes, but big challenge equals big reward. You will also have a permanent smile on your face driving super cars, race cars and road cars on circuits from around the world. Motorsport in real life is super expensive.By this game and a quality steering wheel instead! Happy Days!

Update 06/11/2017After being disappointed with both GT Sport and Project Cars 2, I decided to dust this game off, having not played it since a few days after its release.I have to say that with the latest updates, it plays rather well. The cars handle as I would expect them to and the online races are plentiful. As a "simulation", it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of being able to set your wheel up, although it does now allow you to save your presets - just a shame that it only comes with a few presets built in for generic wheels rather than having support for the major wheels available.I think that this, combined with Driveclub for your Arcade type driving, are a far better investment than either GT Sport or PCars2.

This game is for gamers who are interested in simulation racing. I believe that the game creators have done an excellent job in this particular area. It feels very realistic, you can feel what is going on with the car.In terms of menu structures and options it is not as polished as Project Cars. I have not played Assetto Corsa on the Pc so not sure in terms of feel and graphics, how it compares. I get the impression that the developer's priority was the driving physics, the cars and the tracks. For sim racers this will be key and will be enough to forgive shortcomings in other areas of the game. This game is accessible to players using game pads also. Not an amazon purchase as the prestige editionwas not available on amazon.

I do like this game a lot, it's certainly more of a sim than gran turismo sport. If I have one thing that I don't like, is that the steering feels to light for my liking. I've done everything I can to try and make it stiffer, but it's at its full potential. I go through phases of playing some games for a while. After being on this game for a while, I decided to go on gt sport and I thought my wheel was stiffer than normal, but it was because I'd been on assetto corsa for a while. Apart from that it's the mutts nuts. The sound is mind blowing from some of the cars, especially when my soundbar is on. It doesn't take to kindly to my wife's ears, as she doesn't like the sound, but for me it's eargasmic!!

After probably playing every racing game on the PS4 I have come to the conclusion that this is the best in terms of no nonsense sim racing with realistic physics. No it doesn’t quite have as good graphics as games like GT sport but it makes up for it in the way it draws you in to try harder and get better. It will seem a little hard to handle if you’re used to simcade racing games but stick with it as there’s more much more of a sense of achievement when you do well. I would advise adjusting the settings before you get going as it really makes a difference to how the cars behave. A quite google search will help you out. Great game.
