I purchased these for my husband who runs about 3 miles every other day. He is approx. 215# and has an ongoing case of Plantar Fasciitis. He runs on a dirt track as recommended by his podiatrist and generally wears Saucony shoes but lately even running on dirt/stone dust track he's been having problems. We thought it might be time he switched shoe brands and I did the research. The ASICS Mens Gel-Kayano 24 Running Shoe was on 3 of the "Best Runners for Plantar Fasciitis" lists I found on the web. Along with his orthotics, I though this was a sure thing. He was excited to get them and wanted to love these shoes. Unfortunately, I believe the Gel Kayano *previous* versions may have been great for Plantars, but this version is NOT.The sizing was spot on for him, he found the uppers to be very comfortable, he loved the responsiveness, breathability and flexibility of the shoe (he runs midfoot strike as recommended by his therapist) and the seemingly ultra light weight compared to the various Saucony's he's been wearing for years. But after 1 mile, he'd had enough. These shoes, touted as 'cushiony and energizing' were anything but, especially for a person with plantars. On a dirt/stonedust track he could feel the pounding on his feet.I gave these 4 stars (subtracted 1 star because they are not "cushiony" as described) because if you are not suffering foot injuries or have Plantars, this is a great shoe for those who like a lightweight shoe and appreciate that 'road feel' contact when they run but do not expect much in the way of cushiony soles. If you have injuries or are looking for a well-cushioned sole on your runners, look elsewhere.

Reviews of running shoes are subjective. I could write paragraphs but it would be of limited use. So I will give my quick opinions on the issues raised by other reviewers:"they are lighter than the older 23's" - holding one of each in each hand I could well believe this. Haven't weighed them and any weight difference is negligible mind you."they are less cushioned" - well they definitely feel different, and yes maybe less cushioned. It could just be the characteristics of the material though and that the overall cushioning is the same but the way it delivers it (perhaps less up front but more linear) accounts for the feel."they are smaller/tighter than the 23's" - I disagree with this.Compared to my 23's in the same size I'd say they are the same or even slightly more roomy.I found these (well the 23's) to be excellent for my knee injuries and over-pronation. I do go through them like sweets though. I once had a pair just for walking and doing my Fitbit steps and wore them through in a couple of months!!! That was all on tarmac and gravel paths (gravel probably the worse) where as when running and especially doing things like park runs you are often on grass or in mud and experience less wear.I only run casually but I guess serious distance runners will say the life span is par for the course for decent running shoes.I am only qualified to recommend these to casual runners with knee/over-pronation problems so if you do marathons and have no knee issues....well you are probably reading professional reviews in running magazines/sites and don't care what Amazon reviews say.

I've been an Asics Gel Kayano wearer since the model 17's, and have always likes the fit and stability of these shoes. I go through 3-4 pairs a year, so have had multiple pairs of each model over the years. The 21 was my favorite, and the 22 and 23 models seems to have softer soles that wore off quicker. But this one might surpass that. But first I want to point out that with three pairs of the model 23's, I had no issues at all. Then the last pair I bought I had nagging hotspots on the outside balls of my feet, even ended up with my first blister in ten years there after running a half marathon earlier this year. I have to wonder if Asics has different batches of the same model with slight variations to the fit.Definitely a bad experience there, and wouldn't mind hearing from Asics on this. The 24's have a much more comfortable toebox, and one noticeable difference looks-wise - the raised parts behind the heel are gone, and that back area is flatter now. Not a problem for me as I wear my shoes slightly loose anyway to account for swelling on long runs, but it does make the fit slightly looser than before, which some might have an issue with. We'll see how the soles last - I wish they'd go back to the stiffer material there. All in all, these are great shoes, same stability as older models with same comfort and cushioning (and for those who need that, it's a big deal). I've put about 80 miles on these with no issues at all, and no hotspots at all.

***UPDATE 3/2019*** 1) These things don't breathe very well - my feet are hot in them just walking around. 2) The liner in the heel cups is causing pilling - not sure if it's off my socks or is the heel liner itself, but I'm not encouraged that the interior materials are going to hold up over time. These are way too much money for these issues. It's been awhile since I bought new Kayanos (my last pair are 22s), These provide a stiffer foot bed than my old pair - the "gel" description isn't as apparent, but I'm not convinced that's a bad thing, as they seem to be more stable under foot without causing any discomfort. What I do miss is the light reflective highlights on my older Kayanos that provided some safety if I was caught out later than anticipated.I like the true black nature of the design, making them less obvious that they are athletic shoes. Tough to gauge breathability since it's December in the northeast, but so far so good. Time will tell on the other aspects of it - my old ones seemed to wear out the sole much faster than they should - perhaps ASICS attempt to get runners to swap out their shoes sooner than folks tend to? These soles "seem" more durable, but we'll see...

Just ordered these today..i normally get Cumulus but these were at £116 with free delivery and not much more than the Cumulus which were £93 with delivery, I thought I may aswell treat myself to the Kayano instead, they normally last me a good couple of years anyway, i will be getting my moneys worth out of them running on the dreaded treadmill at the gym until i get used to running again then do my usual run.. I will come back and compare them to Cumulus when they arrive! "These shoes arrived today" Kayano are more of a runners shoe than the Cumulus..Cumulus are more of a joggers or a running on the treadmull type shoe with a bit more cushioning..Kayano are a more of a beat your lap time typeof shoe and have a bit more of a premium feel to them..i still would recommend the Cumulus to people who are not that serious about running and are looking for a gym shoe with a lot of cushioning for running on the treadmill..For people running 10K and over at a decent pace I would recommend the Kayano , you really do get what you pay for with these..even the inside of the shoes heel feels like it's built to last with a much stronger memory foam material!

My friend is a serious ironman triathlete, and he swears by Gel-Kayanos, so I tried the 23 model on his recommendation. Seriously, they are the most comfortable running and cross-training shoes that I've EVER worn. Stability is unparalleled, and they fairly light given the superb support. I work out and/or run practically every day. After a few months, the 23's are still holding up well and going strong... but I've retired them to "running around the city" shoes (I live on the UWS in Manhattan) because they are just so damn comfortable. I recently purchased the Gel-Kayano 24's and my expectations were solidly met - again. The 24s feel even more cushioned.A drawback for some runners might be that you are going to sacrifice some speed.... the soles are not that flexible, and the shoe is a bit bulky compared to the other high-end racing shoes. But you can run in them comfortably 4-EVER. Wish the price would come down but, hey, you only get one pair of feet in life. Be good to them. They will definitely thank you with these shoes.

I bought the wide version because I have flat feet and orthotics. At first they were a little snug, but after a few days, they loosened up and now they are great! They look good, they fit good too. I am a 10.5-11. the 11 is perfect. not too snug, but not loose either. The black back part of the shoe is all hard, kinda like a hard plastic, so it can be a little tough to get on if the laces are still tied, but I dont have any problems with them.Ive only had them for a month and wear them to the gym and work (nurse at a hospital) and they are comfy and durable and seem to hold up well. Ill definitely get them again and i would recommend them too!I wish they had more colors in my size, but the grey and black and white is fine.Great shoes.

I have been wearing ASICS kayano from its 22th series, and I am satisfied with all these three series. An interesting thing is that the size of my kayano22 is 8.5, but for 23 and 24, the size has to be 8.5 2E to be comfortable. For comparison, my feeling for 22,23 and 24 is:weight from high to low: 22-23-24cushioning or softness from best to worst: 22-23-24Overall, I am satisfied with this 24th, it is light weight and has enough bounce back, but i am just wondering why the insole is not as soft as before. Some say that it has better support during running, but I can not tell the difference. Wish some improvement for the 25th.

I usually buy a pair of Kayano's about once a year. The price is a little steep, but it's totally worth it as these shoes are super supportive but yet lightweight as well. I have to purchase the 2E width for my wider than average feet, so I'm thankful that Asics has continued making them in wide widths. My one complaint is the color selection is pretty bland in wides but that's more or less to be expected. Nonetheless, these shoes are the perfect blend between cushioning and good stability.

Have ran with Kayanos for the past 8 years as I've remained injury free and see no reason to change! Cost is the biggest negative but wiling to pay to stay injury free. Have found this pair (24s) much more durable on the upper sole than the previous model (23s) which I ended up having to change every 10 weeks or so due to excessive wear and chunks falling off. Was looking at other shoes as a result of this flaw in the 23s but the 24 version has redeemed itself and I'm happy once more

So far I love these shoes. There is a lot of cushion in the forefoot and heel. The stretchy mesh tops are nice too. I have been dealing with plantar fasciitis for almost two years now and these are the best shoes I've worn so far. I only gave it four stars because I've only worn them a few weeks and I don't know how long they will last. Hopefully they will hold up for a long time.If you stand a lot at work and have achy feet I definitely recommend these shoes.

I had my doubts about allocating so much money to some simple shoes, but given that I have prescribed some templates and that the previous Asics were great, I decided to buy these shoes for pronadores (Kayano24) to be able to run calmly without having to spend my templates. normal footwear A great success. The feeling of running with them is like floating. They are robust but light, comfortable but tight ... A marvel. 100% recommended.

I heard the Kayano line has good arch support, an issue with my feet I've been dealing with for the past 6 months. These shoes fit true to size in the length. The width is just right, if not just a tad narrow. There is decent arch support. I feel the arch support would be better if it extends a bit further to the front. I love the material. Very breathable. Cushioning is excellent. Overall, really like these shoes.

Bought these after wearing out my Kayano 22's. Only been wearing these for a few days and they are breaking in nicely. No agitation really on breakin, however, I believe these to be slightly more loose fitting than the 22's were new. Still snug around the ball and heel, just not as tight as I thought they would be. Comfortable to wear all day (12 hours a day for me). Well ventilated. Overall a great shoe thus far.

Great shoe, this is like the 6th kayano I’ve owned. The fit is slightly different and the comments on the shoe being a little firmer are right, but nothing that made me think twice. This color is more of a white and gray which wasn’t my first choice but it seemed like the shoe was selling fast. They are a little wider in the toe box, which I actually liked in comparison to the 22 and 23 series.
