This is the 3rd "Army of 2" game. Ao2 is very basic a 3rd person co-op shooter - excellent for taking your frustrations out on, just pop it into your PS3 and go postal on the army of the "Devil's Cartel".The main characters from the previous 2 games (Salem and Rios) have been replaced by 2 particularly flat characters called Alpha and Bravo - the makers really didn't put any effort into those names because they are as dull as the characters they represent. The ridiculous misogynistic celebrations have been replaced by even more cringe worthy comments. It's like they've been dumbed down (not that Salem and Rios were the sharpest tools in the box)and hit with the politically correct baton which is a shame as a lot of the fun came with the fist bump, air guitar, "yeah bro!" comments at the end of a battle. The story is basic: our 2 replacements, Alpha and Bravo, have been sent to Mexico to rescue a hostage and it deteriorates into the two against the private army of the kidnapping cartel. The levels have become repetitive and feel flat and the same, even the addition of highly colourful ones are samey. In fact the only distraction is caused by the frequent pop-up score and progression charts - and this is annoying. It seems that the good people from EA games and Visceral have decided that rather than have them at specific places, such as the end of chapters, they are going to be on what appeared to be a timed basic, popping up at some of the most inopportune moments. In the middle of a full out, spawning enemies, battle was the worst one.The take-cover mechanism is completely messed up as you can sometimes take cover and other times you will find yourself running straight into enemy lines. The rolling cover move has been removed. The "Morality" and "Agro" meter have gone and have been replaced by the "Overkill Mode" alone. "Overkill" requires you (and your partner) fill the gauge - once full you simply trigger the bonus when you are ready. For a limited period of time every round that you fire will be given amazing strength - you can literally destroy everything. The game can be played solo, as a split screen or as an online co-op, but there is no multiplayer, no side missions, etc.If you are playing solo then the AI partner isn't as suicidal as most and will help you out if you get into trouble. The AI enemies are completely brainless. They will literally let you walk right up to them without taking any action against you. There are a number of bugs, not just the cover system but things like open doors that are open and your partner has gone through suddenly become invisible walls that you are unable to follow. If a player joins or drops out mid level then you have to restart the entire chapter from the beginning. The bugs are annoying, the pop up progress screens are an irritation but it is still a playable game and a great way of taking out your frustrations on AIs rather than real people."Permission to engage?""Permission? Just engage!"

Full disclosure, I really didnt like the first AOT. I did play it in single player, and my love for co-op games has grown over the years with Resi 5 and the Far Cry series. This third and seemingly final instalment was by Visceral who I love for the Dead Space series, which made me want to try this.Soon as the Isaac mask unlocked I never changed it again, but the sheer selection and ability to make your own masks is impressive and easy to use. Overall graphics are functional rather than pretty. The amount of destruction in the environments is very satisfying and a good trade off for really stunning visuals. Things like being able to destroy cover that enemies are hiding behind (and them to you)really adds to the gameplay. The moment to moment gunplay is really thrilling. You're not going to be emotionally invested in the plot, its not bad for its genre and builds to a cliched, depressing conclusion. It may even anger fans of the originals. However the general tone and some set pieces reminded me of the film Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado. Impressive considering this came out years earlier. The partner AI in single player is actually brilliant and won't hold you back like some games of this type, but if you can find a player than the game really comes into it's own.Matchmaking options are limited; infuriatingly I couldn't find an option to have a private match so randoms kept joining and I was unable to connect with a player from Germany. I cannot confirm if the game is region locked, yet anyone I got a game with was from my own country. Servers are still up and running as of July 2020 however and were relatively smooth once connected. The game has split screen multiplayer, worth mentioning as this feature has been overlooked so much these last few years. While it was never used, it's always nice to have options.Platinum will require 2 playthroughs, as Insane difficulty unlocks upon completion. You're going to need a 2nd controller or an online partner for just 1 trophy. It took around 16 hours to Platinum (7 hours for each run and 2 hours grinding money at the end for masks and weapons) and I had a lot of fun in that time. If you can get this for £5 like I did, then it ranks up there with The Saboteur and Shadows of the Damned as underrated PS3 games I would thoroughly recommend.

Army of Two: Devils Cartels is definitely a game you should purchase, if you've played the first two games, due to the level of connection this game has with the previous two. However if you are new to this game, then I'd suggest waiting until it's less than £15 before considering to purchase it. It's game system is really good and very simple to get used to - but this games fails to deliver a good coherent storyline and some of the action scenes seem to be a little over the top and too dramatic. There are very few bugs in the game, which is def good news, but the game developers could have taken a little more time to add a little better AI to the enemies, since they don't seem to clever.I played this on normal difficulty and it didn't take me more than 10 hours to complete. All in all I'd rate this game 7.5/10 - but only because I've also played the first two games.

Easy to move from cover to cover, beautiful graphics and a fun upgrade-personalising weapons and mask system (you can also change your clothing but that's preset and strangely the colours on the thumbnail never match the full gear but that is not an issue, it still looks great).Player interaction is prompted in this game as opposed to the first game where you could walk up to one another and bump fists or slap each other. not a deal breaker obviously but I did like that little extra in the first game.Really easy controls and a pretty cheesy but fun story line. Looking forward to the next game!

best army of two to date! with the frostbite 2 engine being implemented in this game it was only a matter of time. the graphics are nice and vibrant, gunplay and cover system is nice a fluid (it was pretty bad in the 40th day)and the melee kills are just brutal! single player is great, even better if you got a mate to play with.if your tired of the first person shooters such as call of duty and battlefield, i strongly recommend you pick this title up. you wont be disappointed. and fans of the series like myself will appreciate what this game has to offer.

Playing this coming off the back of co-op Rainbow Six is a real nice change. Much more of a gratuitous shooter, but at the same time rewarding for communicating targets and being tactical more so than just opening up on the cartel. I love the custom weapons, just enough for some variation but not so much that you are drowning in a sea of guns like other online shooters. I picked it up cheap on a sale on PSN for £3, told my cousin about it we figure for 3 quid even if its poor it is no big loss but im glad i did because its been alot of fun so far.

An enjoyable middle of the scale game. It's not top notch, but you can still have some fun playing it.It's basically a 3rd person shoot 'em up. The shooting itself is very like the Uncharted games, and not overly challenging. You go in, shoot everything in sight, take a little cover and there you go, level complete. The graphics are adequate, but they won't blow your mind as being anything special.I didn't find it all that hard to be honest but overall, I did enjoy wasting a few hours playing on it.

This game has all the makings of a brilliant game both in terms of reality and graphics representation. It is better than the previous two in my opinion for it does away with siding either as Salem or Rios and concentrates on more a team player value, with mixes of personalities. All in all if more games were presented at this stage, the games world would be a far better place to spend off duty hours.

I played the previous Army of Two game. I'm glad to see there isn't a 4 hour loading time in this one, but this is pretty much the only real difference. Its still the same old 'kill 200 enemies, move to next checkpoint, kill 200 more enemies, move to next area'. I have yet to complete it, I got bored, not going to lie. However, saying this, it is fun in short bursts.

30.6.2015

as a single player game this would prob get repetitive and boring but as a local or online coop game its a must have the graphics are pretty good and the shooting is fun when your playing with a friend that is when this game is at its best if your looking for a good coop game this is the one to get

So many reasons why you should buy this game. If you have a mate who has a PS3 and likes shooters then you will never have more fun that this game.Graphics are good the action is relentless and all in all its one of the best fun I have ever had on PS3. A much needed break from COD.

28.3.2013

If you liked the demo, you will like this. The story is basic, kill the cartel, but it does run smoothly. The customization options are excellent. Although this game does not support competetive, it still does well as a co-op shooter.

22.1.2014

Tons of customizations help you get through the nicely balanced levels. Coop is very cool, especially on the same couch. The many save-game spots let you olay this just to relax or going for the achievements

26.4.2013

We loved 40th day, it could well be the best co op game ever. With this in mind we waited over a year for the devils cartel to arrive. A little disappointed, but still a good game.Oh, no AA-12 this time.

16.1.2014
