Army of Two is a masterpiece for 2-player splitscreen gameplay. Levels are intricate and brilliantly designed, AI intelligent and challenging, and weapons and effects utterly satisfying.Weapons can be customised throughout the game, which is a nice touch and adds to the progression through the game. The storyline is pretty strong, and the characters aren't as unlikable as the average macho idiots that normally star in these kinds of games. This game is best played with a friend. Singleplayer is good, but if you immediately go for that, you're kind-of missing the point of the game. It has "TWO" written down the box for a reason. In Singleplayer, you do have your AI partner to support you,but despite the best efforts of the designers, he's not exactly SAS. The problem with AI partners is that they don't think for themselves enough. However, if you're playing 2-player co-op, you can make your way through the long campaign relying on eachother for backup. Every few minutes in Army of Two, there are situations that require teamwork to overcome. These situations can be simple and low-key, or challenging and complex. A typical example might be providing supressing fire at an armoured opponent while your buddy sneaks round behind him and shoots him in the back of the head. The game is engineered to encourage the players to constantly be aware of what the other is doing, and what roles they must be fulfilling at each moment. This is done through "AGGRO", a system that allows a player with a big gun laying out supressing fire to actively draw the attention of all AI in range while his friend becomes practically invisible to them. In game, an AGGRO-Meter on the HUD allows both players to be aware of how much attention they currently have. Many games have split-screen co-op added as an afterthought. In Army of Two, however, it is the game's central concept, and because the game has been designed with co-op in mind, it pulls it off in a way that outshines any multiplayer FPS to date. This is by no means the only strength however. Environments in Army of Two are beautifully designed with impressive backdrops and excellent level design. These range from war-torn cities to jungles, mountains and even an aircraft carrier. There are also opportunities to utilise vehicles in the game; examples include a hovercraft, and particularly prominently; a parachute. One level begins with the players diving out of a plane and parachuting down to an enemy base. One player controls the parachute, while the other uses a sniper rifle to knock out defenders during the approach. Finally, Army of Two is utterly supported by the design company vire free Downloadable content. This has included many new levels on the same scale as original content, taking hours to play through. As a shooting game, there are better ones out there, but if you want a game to play with a friend, Army of Two should be at the top of your list.

This game was a surprise to me, my girlfriend bought it for me as a surprise, and I have to say I am impressed with the game so far. I have only played a couple of missions so far but I am enjoying the gameplay, the graphics are very good - to be expected of high definition gaming I know, but some PS3 games do not make full use of the system. The cut scenes are of good quality and as you are a mercenary, that encompasses many mission ideas. The game gives you a tutorial before you get into the action so you know how to work with your partner and how to utilize the system for giving orders to your partner. I especially liked the fact that you can customize your weapons (for a price of course),there is an option to "pimp" your weapon, and man does it like a gun a pimp would use lol. You can upgrade basically all aspects of the weapon, stock, barrel, suppressor, etc... and purchase bigger and better as you go along. I have seen the mini-gun and I want it!!! You can also upgrade the armour that you wear, so there is lots of option to customize your outward appearance.I liked the idea of the "shield" you can put onto your weapon too, it helps give you a tiny bit more protection and it looks ok and isn't obtrusive when going through the game with it attached. Also, a good addition is the introduction of the "aggro" system, for those of you not familiar with online MMOs, this means that one person starts firing at all the enemies so that they focus their attention on him instead of you or visa versa. So by ordering your partner to "aggro" this can lead you almost invisibly to enemies while their attention is on him and so you can sneak up on them and kill em!I have read reviews that the game is quite short, I cannot comment on that as I have only just started playing. I do agree that the game would be better played with another person, but the AI seems to do an able job and I haven't had any concerns with it so far. I enjoyed the "back to back" fighting, when you are surrounded by enemies you can each step in to cover each others' back, this entails a John Woo type of slowdown fight where you rotate your character blowing away baddies seeing the jets of blood as they get hit and slow mo fall to the ground.A fun aspect too is that if you are near a vehicle, you can pull the door of it and use it as a makeshift shield to give you and your partner some cover while you try to put down the enemy. If you have a mate who enjoys playing, definitely get this game, the co-op factor would be great fun, and the game is fun to play solo. I haven't tried the online gaming yet and so cannot comment on that for now.

First off, this game was not a disappointment and don't listen to anybody who says that it is. The people who have written a bad review for this game are either blind or just do not appreciate the brilliant gameplay and clever techniques used throughout.I have only just got this game but am already enjoying it, having started a campaign with my brother. It can get very intense and you will probably end up shouting at one another (even on screen), but in the end it's worth it.The attention to detail, to me is spot on, and I would not play it if it were any other way. I thought that the graphics were amazing and the list of things that you can do in co-op mode with a friend is brilliant. You take part in dozens of activities together including prachuting, driving and looking out for one another with the newly thought up aggrometer, which allows the other person to be practically invisible to enemy sight, making it easier for you to take up a good vantage point in order to kill as many enemies as you can.The icing on the cake for me though had to be the vast array of weapons to choose from, and the fact that they are upgradable to every possible imagination, including the addition of shields on weapons and even other guns.Overall I rate this game 5 stars because it has what I like to call the 'excitement factor'. It is an action-packed game which is sure to keep you on the end of your seats throughout. It is a must have for any ps3 owner and you would be a fool not to buy it. I try to compare this game with others to help you decide for yourselves, but I cannot think of any to compare it with. It is unique, take my word for it.Thank you for taking the time to read through this review, and hopefully ignore other negative reviews. I hope this helped in making a decision as to whether or not to buy this game.

Anyone who liked gears of war on the x-box will love this as the 3rd gameplay and co-op style is almost a carbon copy, this of couse is good thing because ps3 owners have been begging for this type of game since launch and kane and lynch just didn't deliver !the Graphics are supprisingly good for an EA game and runs at a good frame rate, which is supprising considering this is just another frustratingly exact port from it's x-box counterpart ! Which bring me onto the legnth of the game, short ! in one word ! again this is due to the fact EA have just ported it from the x-box version which only has a DVD to fit the whole game on, thus leaving the ps3's BD disc more than half empty !! shocking !!especially as ps3 owners have to pay the same money as the x-box users.Size of Army of two aside the best part comes to light when you go online with a friend and play it co-op, this is extreamly fun and rewarding, and with the large selection of weapons and upgrades there is plenty of scope for good team play and tactics, EA have also promised updates and extras to be released through the PSN, although at a cost I am sure ! which again is frustrating considering the emptyness of the ps3's BD disc !Would Defo recomend this game for anyone who likes a good shooter, just make sure you have some friends to play with though.

I am a real lover of the 360 title Gears of War (GoW). Have never really played shooters before, but enjoyed that. After being disappointed with a number of titles that I have tried (to find a similar type of game), I was becoming a little disheartened.Saw a preview for Army of Two, and decided to have a go. Whoopee! At last, a game I like! Not only that, I found myself playing this game til the early hours of the morning, and not realising what the time was. That has to count for something!I found the controls a little difficult at first, but like most games, I soon got to grips with things. Rather than writing a long-winded review of this game, I will cut things short. This is a GOOD game.I have only played this in single player mode so far, but it is thoroughly enjoyable. The graphics are cool, the gameplay is smooth, and allhough a tad easy (in easy mode!), I am sure that once I move onto the harder modes this game will prove to be challenging.I never like to similarise games, but if you are frustrated about wanting to play GoW on the PS3 (and cannot), then give this game a try, you won't be disappointed.5 stars all the way!

I bought AO2 a while ago and was well impressed. Im still having fun thanks to the online gaming, despite the glitches. You follow tyson rios and elliot salem, a pair of armored, double hard mercanaries with fully custom weapons. The graphics are stunning as is the gameplay. You can sneak around enimies while the other player distracts them and permorm melee attacks - normally a skull fracturing headbutt among a few others. Also theres the weapons ranging from pistols and SMGs to grenade launchers and miniguns, all customiseable and pimped out.The story mode although short is great 2 player and can be played through a few times before it gets boring. The online game if youre patient is fantasic, but massively let down by crappy EA server, 'cross region play not supported' comes up when i try to play my mate who lives less than a mile away, which is just stupid. Its not all bad because 'quick match' is still pretty extreme and can be played 2 player split-screen online.Overall Id recommend this to anyone PS3 or 360. There better be a sequel out sometime soon.

Another aging yet reliable PS3 game that originally passed me by, I've recently purchased both it and the 2010 sequel, subtitled the 40th day. As mentioned by the title above, this particular FPS has primarily a co-op focus, but doesn't (Mechanically rather than thematically.) punish solo players like myself. Compared to the plethora of similarly modern, aesthetically grim boots-on-the -ground shooters, Army Of Two discourages fast played gun play and favors a more tactical orientated approach to combat. There's also a focus on in depth weapon customisation, as if weirdly utilizing active crafting mechanics via unintentional precognition. (In subsequent years other gaming IP's have gone wild with the concept.)I also admire the relatively subtle gameplay changes activated by using hand crafted weaponry, to my knowledge not many shooters at that time did so with such keen detail to the mechanic. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase, item arrived in desired condition, and value for price was perfect.

I played Army of Two with one of my friends Co-op and we both absolutely love the game. It is so much fun. The aggro things work brillianlty, and you cannot complete without working together - which is great since thats the idea of the game "army of TWO"Its not too complicated which is great (not that I don't like complicated games) but perfect playing with a mate and having fun at the same time. Also the comments and the conversation between the ingame characters are a laugh, small things that make you smile and keep the game light spirited. The idea that you can buy new and upgrade owned weapons are awesome, makes it feel like you are leveling up, and it gives you a choice of playstyle.Overall I greatly recommend this game, especially for you and a mate. Playstation is for me about having fun and chilling with your friends, that is where it excel, and this game fit right into that picture.

i did write a review before, and so you can obviously see i was going to buy this game, as the script, the gameplay and the premise are all brilliant ideas. upon getting it on saturday me and my friend played it, and completed it within a night. Then the other difficulties aswell. And yes the gameplay is awesome, and everything is great, controls, graphics, everything i expected. Just after that there was nothing else to do. We tried going online, but there is a worlwide problem with the servers by EA, and so having to wait a few weeks for a patch is going to be annoying, and even then i cant see it being great as COD4 online. And so i do reccomend this game, as when you do play it,it is brilliant.BUT : play it with a friend, alot more fun, trust me and just be wary that after the few hours spent, you are done for now, but hopefully not for longxxx

I wasn't sure what to expect with this one, the idea and the COOP play was so inviting it couldn't be ignored. What I wasn't expecting was a nicely polished game, nice graphics, great interativity and gameplay along with a generic yet fun storyline. The interactivity with your partner is great, pulling and pushing each other about, flanking the enemy and teaming together to reach your objective.Of course the above is all relevant when playing with a friend, which really is a must have experience, I would drop a star for single player. The game works and is designed for COOP play at home split screen, and there it really shines. The single player isn't bad, just standard, there are still nice touches throughout but to experience it at it's best grab a mate and enjoy!

Did some yahoo seriously try to say conflict denied ops was good for anything other then lining a bin?, it trashed a great series of games all because the company heard army of two was coming out and EA had chucked some heavy bucks into the advertising, so they tacked the conflict name onto a piece of crap and rushed it out to make a cheap buck, army of two, is definetely more substance over content, co-op with a real person is excellent, the graphics are very smooth, the long term value in a game like this is online, but in a world where a game such as call of duty 4 exists, you should feel ashamed to have done anymore than played the conflict denied ops demo, shyame on anybody who bought it,army of two is a far superior game despite its flaws.

Well fun game, good for when your having a piss up, get all the lads on it, make em look crap, if your a nerd that expects an actual war experience or a die hard call of duty fan you may find this game isnt what you expect, but if you have bought your games console to have fun and not pretend your an action hero youll love it. Youll love it if you do want to be an action hero to, trust me lol. Hope they bring a sequel out, i really enjoyed this game and highly reccomend it, mega capabilities even if a little original, co op with a mate or AI are equally fun and amazing. ENJOY!! Im going to go play it again now, in hard mode, like medium was easy!

9.9.2008

If you like 3rd person shooter this game is a real good buy. The graphics are good, the campaign is great and even better if there is two of you playing however, the one downisde to the campaign is that it is just not long enough in my opinion. it just needed more locations and levels to fight your way through. But apart from that minor down side its a great game. The fact that you can pimp your weapons help each other over obstacles and interact with your team mate e.g. hit him for being useless is great fun. Overall I give it 7.5/10. A Good Buy!

8.3.2008

i bought army of two on all of the hype that has surrounded it and i was not dissapointed. the single player is pretty good but nowhere near as fun as playing with another real player. it really does put emphasis on playing as part of a team, using covering fire and cover while the other moves. i would recommend this game to anyone who likes playing co op games. this is a bit like gears of war but in my view far far better.

16.3.2008

I don't really understand these mixed reviews. This game is brilliant. Ive been lookign for a replacement co op shooter for resistance and this delivered again and again. The upgrade system is great and the two player split screen you can play for hours on end. The graphics are solid and the storylien is fantastic. Odd how so many people thought otherwise.
