What is there left to say about Ardbeg 10yo? It deserves all the plaudits it consistently achieves, and more.'Consistently' being one of the most impressive words there. Year in, year out, the quality is impeccable, the balance largely unvarying. Where some of its rivals, like (alas) Lagavulin, have lapsed in recent years, Ardbeg continues to set exceptional standards. The lack of chill-filtering, the 46% bottling and absence of caramel may contribute to that, along with simple production and maturation quality. The flavour and nose profiles advertised are accurate, as most here will attest to: it's a smoke and peat bomb, but without the excess heaviness in either, or through oil, that can overpower the subtler notes of citrus, pear and spiced dried fruits, with a lovely shot of brine reminiscent of a pebble-beach. Finish is [very] long for a 10yo whisky, well-balanced smoke with nuts, black tea, coffee and a final softening touch of late pear. Superb.Packaging is conventional: a quality bottle with cork and decent metallic seal, and an outer cardboard box with the usual branding, some interesting information for those new to the brand.Ardbeg is, if not a cult product, then one that inspires great loyalty amongst its fans, for good reason. There is little to touch it in quality at under £50 a bottle, and in truth, it sets the baseline at such a high level that spending more will not necessarily bring major improvements. Some, yes, but you pay increasingly more for progressively smaller steps. It is not for everyone: those who do not care for heavily peated / smoky Western Isles whisky as a general profile will probably not enjoy it, though if they are whisky lovers, they will no doubt appreciate the quality even if it isn't to their taste. Which is fair enough. For those of us who do -this remains the standard.

Its punchy and there is merit in this, its a good Hardy Islay. I don't know if its just a bit too gruff for me, but I don't find it as refined as similar price bracket Islay malts. I hate to spout the usual suspects but for the price I'll in future prefer a Laphroaig or pay slightly more for Lagavulin.Nose: campfire and cough mixture.Pallate: campfire and sea saltFinish: a long punch around the chops of more fire and salt. Will definitely have its fans, just not refined enough for me.

Over lockdown I've taken it upon myself to try many different single malts - including Islays, Speysides and beyond. Nothing too extravagant - fifty quid and below... For me, Ardbeg 10 is the absolute benchmark for others to follow. It has a perfect balance of peatiness, sweetness and smoothness and is surprisingly light in colour. Once you've experienced this stuff you'll keep wanting more and more. Highly recommended.

After trying Laphroaig Select (I liked it but didn't love it) I wanted to try a "heavily" peated whisky.I expected this to be a smoky medicinal monster, however it is actually delicious. The peat and smoke is there, but it is not medicinal, more like a bonfire. There is a sweetness and malt which balances it perfectly throughout, followed by a spicy lingering finish.I never expected this to become a favourite

This or Lagavulin 16 is the question though! Both are superb however I would say you need a bottle of both on the shelf. To me, Ardbeg marry a sweetness to the peat which offers a wonderful balance and the 10 year old is no different to their more expensive range in this respect. A must have whisky for any Islay/peated whisky fan.

This is a brilliant Whisky for anyone who appreciates a full bodied smokey taste. This is not a hint of smoke, it tastes like someone threw burning charcoal in your glass! If that's what you are after, then you will adore this bottle. Highly recommended.

Love Lagavulin but always wanted to try Ardberg 10. Really pleasantly surprised! Completely different to the Laga which is like drinking a campfire, the Ardberg is sweet, smooth and like drinking a warm evening on the beach. 100% will buy this again

The quintessential Islay malt, in my opinion. Complex, peaty, sweet and salty, bursting with flavour and feels more powerful than 46% abv. Almost guaranteed to put someone off whisky for life if this is the first one they taste!

I'm not gifted in the art of whiskey reviews, but I really enjoy a Laphroaig whiskey, so I thought I'd try more Islay whiskey, and I really enjoyed this!Deliciously balanced with a strong peat/smoke flavour.

A truly beautiful malt, peaty but subtle, blending a wooded sweetness with spice. Not as blatant as some other pleated, Islay malts. Worth every penny, but I'm unsure how to rate its "thickness".

Got it as a gift for my boyfriend at Christmas, he’s picky with his whiskey and he said it’s ‘the best whiskey he ever tried’! Would buy again!

A very light coloured malt. Very smooth whisky but not as powerful as other Islay Malts. Bought when on offer.

what's not to like , peaty , rich and from Islay where they don't make bad whisky .... get some
