I use many different thermal compounds, depending on what job I am doing, and the Arctic Silver 5 is the best all around compound that is out there IMHO. I use this on CPUs, GPUs, VRAM, basically any chip that will require a removable TIM for mounting a heatsink or liquid cooler mount. This is my go to compound when I am doing any job that is going to require exceptional thermal transfer, such as for overclocking, or mounting in small areas. It is a bit overkill if you are going to just be mounting a stock cooler on a CPU and running the CPU at stock clocks. If you are going to be Overclocking and/or installing a liquid cooling system and need to ensure your temps stay low, this is what you will want to use.***For application clarification only - this is not reflective of the review***I am writing this only because product doesn't come with any clear instructions, so I am hoping this helps with new guys and gals building their own rigs. This part has nothing to do with my actual review of the product. As with the other Arctic Silver compounds and most other brand compounds, after applying it and mounting the heatsink, you will want to cycle the system a few times to ensure that the compound can work it self in. The particles are polygonal so they need to be ran thru a couple of thermal cycles to allow them to mesh up to cover the most surface area. Turn the computer on and let it run for 30-45 minutes under normal use, then shut it down and let it cool to room temperature, then repeat this process a couple of times. Eventually the temps will level out, and you will notice that the temperatures that you get after the break in period will be lower that what they were when you start. When applying this to the chips, it doesn't take a whole lot, so a 12 gram syringe will last a while. Since this is a metallic based compound, you will also want to ensure that when you apply it, that you don't over do it and allow the compound to flow over the edges and get on the circuitry, as it can form an electrical bridge and short something out. For a CPU, a small squeeze, just smaller than a grain of rice is usually more than enough. If you are requiring much more than this, than you may want to check the flatness of the CPU face, and the heatsink face as one of them is warped, concave or convex. This usually happens with aftermarket coolers that require a lot of torque to mount the cooler to the plate. The excessive force applied to the faces, and then thermal cycles are applied to the unit causing it to contort. If that is the case you will need to lap the faces to bring them back into flat. But be careful with doing this as it can be overdone, and it will void the warranty of the CPU if you modify the face. If this is the first time you have heard of lapping, then you probably need to consult someone that is more experienced with this to prevent from ruining your expensive equipment.

Best all-round thermal paste. I;ve used everything from pure ceramic, silicone, copper based, and even GALLIUM! (like mercury!). In the end I always come back to Arctic Silver 5. I rebuild, fix computers a LOT. If your a tinkerer or a system builder just spend a little bit more to get the bigger tube and youll have more for later. I dont think it ever goes bad.remember too - it has a break in period. After putting it on and firing up your computer, play some games and put a load on your cpu for a little while. A couple hours is more than enough. Then let your system cool and repeat. After a day or so check the tension of your heat sink.usually the paste has had time to spread out a little bit and you can tighten the heat sink a little bit more - once done your all set!On my Corsair H100i I get about 5-8c better results than with traditional silver paste. Ive bought the cheap stuff from AliExpress and after a few months that stuff drys up bad and turns to a chalk. Arctic silver makes a nice firm putty consistency after a few months that is still malleable enough to expand and contract as the temps change - this is a good thing as it keeps air pockets out. The only thermal solution that ever beat Arctic Silver 5 was pure gallium but its highly conductive and a mess. It will scatter like mercury and is only recommended for competition overclocking because it needs to be removed frequently as it spreads out and lets air in eventually.

It works. It lowered my cpu temps by 10C on my AMD FX-8150. It takes a little to settle in, maybe 3 months depending on how many times you cycle a shutdown, But then you are good to go. You can go with fads or..go with what works. I will take Arctic Silver 5 every time.As to the large tube, it is a better price per ounce. On the Arctic Silver site you can read the application instructions for you processor. I use an ACTUAL "Pea" size drop. Not a young pea..not a pea on steroids ...a real "mature" pea. Just like out of a can. As long as it doesn't go off the processor you should be good. As long as you cover the center 1/2 of the heat spreader it should cover the actual processor.Don't spread it..just place your cpu cooler straight down with one little wiggle left and right, and secure.Relax..it isn't rocket science.

This stuff has saved many of my friends a ton of money from having to replace or send in for repairs, their PS3 or XBOX 360 consoles. Sony & Microsoft both use too little thermal paste & an inferior type too. In turn you end up with the YLOD (PS3) or RROD (XBOX 360) & the problem can be repaired for the price of this thermal compound, a heat gun, & a PC style screw driver set. All in all, about $35 (if you buy the smaller tube of Arctic Silver 5) vs paying Sony or Microsoft about $180 to send you a refurbished unit (& you lose all of your personal saved info, pics, music, & such), or you can pay a local electronics repair person any where form $100 to $200 to repair it.I personally would like to save $65 to $165 & repair it myself.

A good quantity of quality compound. I had to upgrade the CPUs in a large stack of dual socket servers and wanted to ensure that they were well connected to the heat sink for many years of happy heat dissipation. This stuff works well, and as always, a little really does go a long way. After putting some on the first CPU and clamping down the heat sink, I waited several minutes and then took it off again to ensure I had applied enough and to make sure it spread well. I actually applied a little too much, but it spread perfectly. Later when the machines were back online, I ran them hard for an hour and checked the CPU temps in the bios.No difference compared to the stock CPUs that came with the server.

Can't say enough good about the product. Compared to other thermal paste products this blend generally will allow your laptop or desktop PC to run a few degrees cooler under load. I wouldn't use any other product on a discrete graphics laptop. If you have a low-end laptop with integrated graphics you can probably get by with any type of thermal paste, but on a high-end or gaming type laptop you'll want the best possible cooling and I've found AS5 to be one of the best products made. The large 12g tube is enough to do at least a couple dozen laptops. If you only plan on doing a couple laptops get the small tube.

Since I've used this heat sink compound before, I knew what I was getting. I'm happy to say that it hasn't changed. Heat sink compound is suppose to allow the transfer of heat from the CPU to the heat sink and thus keep the CPU from over heating. That's what this stuff does and it doesn't take a big amount of it to do it. Just a small amount spread evenly over the top of the CPU will do the job. I've been using this compound for a while and a friend of mine needed some so I gave him my old tube (Which hadn't run out yet) and got me a new one. A very good brand.

Dropped my temperatures on my GPU AND CPU a good 5-10c idle and 5-7c on load. I have to say It really makes the temps solid as well. You will have more accurate temperature readings with this stuff. I have used it for years in every PC I build and Repair. Trust me, you will notice the difference the second you apply it. This is no cheap white ceramic paste. This is high quality paste with silver filings inside of it. Trust me I got it all over my fingers... its so glittery in the light :D.GREAT PRODUCT. HANDS DOWN. ONLY THERMAL PASTE I WILL EVER USE EVER.

Excellent thermal compound to transfer heat from your CPU or GPU. For best performance, you don't need to apply a lot of this compound on your CPU. It's best to clean off fingerprint and the old compound using denature alcohol or rubbing alcohol that has a very high alcohol content. For most processor, all you need is about a rice grain size. It's best to apply a very thin layer using a clean plastic credit card to spread it out evenly. The maximum heat conduction does not occur immediately but several days later I've notice with this product.

I have been building computers for years, everything from the mundane, to the totally silent HTPC to the Beasts that can cause localized brown outs in their neighborhoods, and I can tell you this: If you plan on using any high voltage chip, or overclock, or are even remotely worried bout the temperature of anything with a heatsink, then this is the best thermal compound available Period. While it isn't a necessity for such projects I can Guanentee that this when properly applied will make thermal management of your computer much much easier.

I had never touched a CPU cooler before as I only put in the stock one that come with thermal paste already on it, after reading the simple instructions I set to work and was done in no time, 20 mins or so after cleaning the inside of the PC It was all back together and ready for testing and I wasn't disappointed. This stuff worked a treat the only downside I would say is they don't provide you with a piece of lint free cloth to scrub the old paste off but luckily I had a bit kicking about from a screen protector. Great stuff.****

Pros:+Made in USA+Significantly reduces temperatures+Relatively inexpensive, given how much you actually use+Syringe is resilient and can dispense over 95% of the total product+Doesn't need to be heated for easier applicationCons:-Due to the presence of silver, which is an electrical conductor, it is important not to have excess touch any electrical components in fear of creating a short circuitPlease remember to use Arctic Silver's guide for the best performance:sample size ratio[...]

I was able to revive a Dell Inspiron. I've had a Dell Inspiron that would turn off right after it turned on. After troubleshooting this mysterious behaviour I've noticed that the Thermal paste was totally dried out (which is common for Dell laptops). After carefully removing and cleaning the CPU I've reapplied the Arctic Silver and the machine worked like on day one. The fan does not kick in as frequent as it used to which is an indicator for the great cooling characteristics. Highly recommended.

When used for CPU installation and your not sure if you should use "dot", "line", or "X" methods go to the Artic Silver website. They have a downloadable PDF on installation instructions showing the proper method of application based on CPU type. "dot" methods for single cores" line methods for dual / quad cores etc. Their instructions also go over properly tinning the CPU cap, as well as tinning the heat sink prior to applying the compound and installing the HSF.

This is the overall best thermal compound to use on your CPU & GPU heat sink. I read up on many Guru Tech website's & found out that even the most expensive GPU "Graphics processing unit" has a small amount,& not the best compound used at the factory. I have 2 GPU's in SLI mode that were running hot temps at 57*C. I took my GPU's apart & used Artic 5 on the GPU heat sinks & got much lower temp readout's with it. Down to 43*C now. I wont use anything else.
