Okay, so. Who is this product for? This adapter is perfect for those who want to get the fastest internet speeds possible to their Mac, and those who want to be able to access the internet as there is no Wi-Fi/ the signal is very weak. In my case, most of the time I need this cable as one of the essential things to pack when transporting my Mac, whether that be to a lecture or for just having for when I’m in a location where the Wi-Fi signal in my room is weak. This cable proved to be more useful than I primarily anticipated. This is because I first purchased the adapter to obtain a more secure internet speed, in comparison to running on Wi-Fi,which worked a treat and I can now have good internet speeds like they should be when I’m on the right side of the house. But this was also useful as a cheeky way to get around my XI form’s Wi-Fi, where I could then access certain websites that were otherwise blocked on the Wi-Fi, such as YouTube, Spotify, SoundCloud and so on.The adapter provides a male thunderbolt 2 connection on one side, so any Mac’s with a thunderbolt female available will be able to use this adapter, to an Ethernet female. In order to connect to the internet, you will have to provide your own Ethernet cable so that you can plug it into the female Ethernet connection on the adapter to your internet source, whether this be a modem or internet switch or anything else that you use to plug in your Ethernet cable.Do I think that this product was worth the purchase? Yes. Do I think it’s worth its money? No. However, it seems although it seems contradicting, I would buy the product again in a heartbeat if I lost it, but It’s not worth the money I paid which was £25. There are other options on the market that sell this adapter much cheaper, that I’m sure does the same thing. I would question whether the build quality is as good as Apple’s adapter and if the internals will provide the same quality of internet speeds, as I believe some adapters, like modems can be not as powerful and not provide the same speeds even if using the same internet and Ethernet cable.Although there are cons or should I say con of the price. It is a solid product and something worth looking into if you want a better internet connection to your Mac if it doesn’t have an Ethernet port available.Any questions, just ask!If this was helpful, please let us know :)Check out our Amazon account: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/pdp/profile/A2RUAK1VU25D496Do you want your products to be reviewed?Business: [email protected] by Will

If WiFi is unavailable or slow or you want to connect to a network attached device (a Time Machine backup disk, for example), back in the olden days you would plug an ethernet cable directly into your laptop. Nowadays of course laptops are too slim to fit a chunky 1990s-style ethernet socket, so you need this adaptor.However... you can get a generic ethernet to USB adaptor for less, but that would (1) use up a USB socket and (2) be limited by USB maximum bandwidth of 625 megabytes/sec (from Wikipedia), which is somewhat less than Thunderbolt 2's 20 Gigabits/sec (from system report). But then perhaps neither of these is really a problem - my 2015 MacBook Pro has two rarely used USB sockets, and 625 Mb/s is still faster than any domestic broadband connection and most LANs, and probably up there with most disk write speeds unless you have something really fancy (we would probably be talking about SSDs, a high-end NAS or professional video equipment). Some have reported ethernet-USB 3.0 interfaces unreliable, but that's entirely anecdotal.Just to be clear, this is a Thunderbolt 2 adaptor which fits in a Mini DisplayPort (also called Mini DV) on my 2015 MacBook Pro. Some reviews have highlighted the fact that newer Macs support Thunderbolt 3 via their USB-C connectors, and given 1-star ratings based this not being clear in the product information, which seems a bit harsh to me but that's the Internet for you.Anyway this is the most direct way to connect a MacBook Pro or similar to a network, and it does the job perfectly well.

The device comes in a nice little Apple-style packaging. Inside the box you'll find device itself on a little tray and some documentation regarding warranty and recycling. The device itself is pretty easy and convenient to use. All you have to do is plug it in to the MacBook and connect an Ethernet cable. No installation, configuration or driver installation necessary whatsoever. This little device is also very useful if you have to restore your large time machine backup from time capsule, saving you A LOT of time. The device itself support the fastest gigabit Ethernet standard. However if you notice a slower transfer, please make sure that your router (or other device to which the MacBook is connected)has the gigabit Ethernet port, as well as you're using a category 6 Ethernet cable (commonly marked as "cat 6") - lower grade cable will affect dramatically the transfer, lowering it even to the 10mb/s.I highly recommend this product. If you have a MacBook with thunderbolt port you should never go for USB to Ethernet adapter, rather choosing this one instead.

I needed one of these and a VGA adaptor so that I could hook my MacBook Pro to my TV for streaming films on my TV.The other day, after a month or so of faultless connectivity, I couldn't get a network connection... I swapped the (cheap! - they mostly are) network cable over, but no difference. It took an adjustment of the thunderbolt plug in the MacBook's socket to get it working. I was very surprised... I thought these things really were faultless...So it seems that even though this is the genuine article at over £20, the VGA adaptor which was a quarter of the price (I didn't seem able to get a genuine one on Amazon, I would've had to trek to my local Apple store for this)now outperforms the Apple network cable adaptor as it has yet to fail in any way!It really is difficult, I think, with these little 'gizmos' to know exactly which will work best. It often seems to have little to do with price, and I extend this to the many USB adaptors/chargers out there!

The adapter works fine, my MacBook Air picks it up in no time, and yes it connects to the internet. The finish is good and it feels like a very solid piece of kit, but like many Apple adapters it does feel pricey. The only major downside is that it uses the only Thunderbolt port on my MacBook Air. Considering one of the advantages of Thunderbolt they advertised when launching it was the ability to daisy chain up to 6 devices (native Thunderbold hard drives for example support this) these adapters do not have a port for daisy chaining, which means I can have ethernet or a second monitor, but not both.

I purchased this in order to get ethernet for my macbook pro 13" 2015, this product does cost that apple premium, this could be avoided by buying a simple usb to ethernet adapter instead but that would use one of the usb ports on the macbook. I would have liked to see the industry-standard link and activity indicators on this adapter and I can only assume that those were not added for style. I do not think that the product should cost this amount of money and should come standard with all purchased macbook but since that is not going to happen I would purchase this again if required.

Several of my friends use third-party Ethernet adapters for their MacBook Airs, but I have always been reluctant to move away from buying Apple brand products as they are always incredibly reliable and well made. And I am happy that I decided to buy this as after a couple of months of use my friend's cheaper adapter has now broken whilst mine is going strong. So I would say that it is well worth paying a little extra for an Apple brand product, as this is clearly very well made, robust and will stand the test of time (written after 5 months of use).

If you spend a lot on the mac then you feel you should do it justice with the apple adapter. As the price is steep for what it looks like, when you open the packaging your heart does sink as it seems nothing for the price. HOWEVER coupled with a gold ethernet cable and good internet connection, the speeds are much faster and there is no loss of internet speed. If you can afford the price then this is fantastic, it looks good and is made with the same care and attention + style that Apple gives to all of its items. I would recommend.

Bought this for my macbook air as a backup, in case I ended up somewhere without wifi. I haven't really used it much in the last 18 months, but I did try it out a few times. I tend to have a Thunderbolt to VGA/HDMI adapter plugged in when at work/home, so since you only have one port, something has to come out.I suspect in hindsight, having a USB to Ethernet might have been a better option, leaving the thunderbolt free for a monitor.I had a few issues getting it configured in OSx, but a bit of googling got it sorted.

The quality you expect from Apple. As with other users, I wanted to make use of the bandwidth of Thunderbolt and keep my USB ports free but there are no third party Thunderbolt to Ethernet that I could find, so I bit the bullet and purchased this. As with anything Apple, you pay for a premium, but the quality comes with this. Only time will tell how well this item holds up, but so far, very impressed. As noted with other users, this adaptor does not come with the Link/Act lights usually found on a network port.

I thought that this may not have been a genuine apple product (like so many other products on amazon aren't and claim to be), but this was definitely genuine - it came in apple packaging, and fitted snugly in the thunderbolt and ethernet ports. Of course, the adapter worked fine; in fact, the ethernet speed worked faster than on my old laptop! I was expecting a slow connection, but I guess the thunderbolt really lives up to what apple claims it to be - fast!

As other customers may also be wondering, this product DOES directly go into an internet connection/socket in the wall.Although obvious, it doesn't state this in any of the reviews about the product,it just mentions the fact that it will fit into the gigabit router or internet.I use this in my room at university and I have had absolutely no problems what so ever, and, as with all apple products, well made and doesn't go wrong!

Have been using this cable intensively for over a year now and still works perfectly. Construction and connections are solid. It's compact but large enough that I'm not worried to lose it. I just wish iPhone chargers were as well built as this. Star knocked off for price. I imagine if Apple's connectors and adapters were more reasonably priced, such as thunderbolt, they might become more widely adopted.

I purchased this after reading other reviews. I live in a small village and the internet connection via wifi can be a pain at times. I ordered this so I could connect via ethernet. It arrived very quickly, which is excellent service! It does as it says on the tin... I now enjoy faster internet, which is essential as I work from home... wouldnt hesitate to recommend this product and seller...

Normally I would always pick the third party accessory but when it comes to my Retina Macbook Pro, there was no way I was going to skimp on the smaller accessories.Speed seems to be as fast as your average gigabit ethernet port and as it weighs almost nothing you can throw it in your laptop bag as you would with a USB stick.A must have for anyone with a newer Retina Macbook of any size.
