If you want a tiny ITX/mATX - but powerful both CPU and graphics wise - this is the APU to beat! OK the upcoming Intel NUC8 "Hades Canyon" - with AMD Vega graphics also (!) is smaller but at almost $1K you could buy 5 Ryzen 2400g+A320 mATX board (e.g. Asus Prime A320)!The 4-core CPU perfomance is similar to Ryzen 3 (4 cores 8 threads) and competitive to top-end Intel i5 CPUs of yesteryear (4C/4T) without overclocking and thus sufficient for most tasks except most demanding. After all we're talking tiny build right? The Vega graphics are superior to anything Intel HD / nVidia 1030 - even nudging low-profile nVidia 1050 (not Ti) depending on application (if we're talking GPGPU e.g. OpenCL or Vulkan game). Thus you're saving the cost of a low-profile GPU.APUs always benefit from faster DDR4 memory - and Ryzen is no exception - thus if 8GB is sufficient then get the fastest you can afford - and in today's market that is not going to be cheap. But you've saved the cost of the GPU and got a cheap mainboard right? Something's got to give. The biggest negative is that the standard Vega drivers (Windows Adrenalin) don't support it and the one for it is a few iterations old; it does not seem to have got updated at the same rate. That is a pity - especially when it supports old R7/R5/HD 8000/HD7000 graphics but not the brand-new Ryzen Vega graphics! AMD needs to step up or in time such a great APU will be a no-no.From the forums it also seems the Linux Vega APU drivers are not quite there. Most new stock mainboards should have a BIOS updated for Ryzen 2 - but if not then some motherboards can use BIOS flash-back/recovery even without a CPU installed. But you may need to check with the vendor and pay a bit extra for them to do it. You could also pick up a used/cheap AM4 board and save even more. It's a new CPU so both BIOS and firmware should hopefully improve over time - by now recent operating systems / applications / games have been updated to support Ryzen 1 and Ryzen 2 is not different enough to require more updates so far.As for cooler, the included cooler is just fine and thankfully does not use the dreadful (IMHO) socket clips - but if you don't like it a cheap 10 quid cooler is sufficient for it even when stressed. This is the "killer" APU that makes low-end GPUs obsolete and perhaps the #1 small build choice, even if you get a much more powerful GPU later (hopefully Vega 2+) it should still be sufficient. And it can crypto-mine! Both CPU and GPU (approx 270 Mh) - so not huge but what other APU for the money/power comes close?

For the price i paid which was £140 this is a bargain. You get 4 cores and 8 threads running at a base clock of 3.6GHz boosting to 3.9GHz when needed out of the box without any tinkering around. It includes a cooler and has on-board VEGA graphics which are actually rather impressive, the integrated graphics are actually better than Intel's own UHD 630 graphics when it comes down to gaming and i have to commend AMD for their work on this front. If you are looking for a budget day to day gaming system then look no further especially due to the "mining disaster" which has caused graphics card prices to shy rocket! I do advise you use a MINIMUM of 8GB of DDR4 3000MHz memory.Memory speed does matter when running integrated graphics and when i tested the system i built i found an increase of around 5% in frames per second just by swapping out a 2666 kit for a 3000 kit, dare i say it but a 3200MHz kit may have yielded more! In the bios i urge you to set the GPU to use 2GB of system memory (RAM) which is the maximum for the VEGA on-board graphics, this allows the vega graphics to use your memory in a similar way to how a traditional graphics card uses memory chips built into the circuit board which in turn will allow you to turn certain in-game filters up like shadows and texture quality. On the high preset (not ultra) at 1080p i was able to achieve an average of 38fps on GTA5 which is impressive given the graphics are built into the CPU die. I did use a Samsung 850 evo SSD for storage and an Asus x370 pro motherboard which worked perfectly fine once i flashed the bios.VERDICT: I built this system for a friend and in some ways i'm sorry to see it go, for the money this APU has a lot of grunt under the bonnet, day to day tasks are a walk in the park especially in combination with the SSD and gaming performance is impressive for the money! If you intend to overclock the CPU or GPU aspect of this APU then i recommend you upgrade the cooling as the included fan won't be enough, however if you intend to leave everything as it is out of the box then the included cooler performs well and within reasonable noise levels. You're getting 4 logical cores and 8 threads and a cooler included too, you seriously can't complain. Sure there is the 2200G which is cheaper and doesn't have the extra 4 threads but if you want a budget gaming system to last more than a year or two i implore you to spend the extra and get the 2400G... the extra threads will prolong the life of the system by a few extra years! For the money this is highly RECOMMENDED!

I got this Ryzen 5 2400 processor after a lot soul searching around intel v AMD processor build, I wanted to introduce my 10 year old son to building a pc rather then him just consuming playing games on consoles. I made a build around a MSI board as I like MSI boards from old and for a gaming/desktop pc build it had to be able to do all and be future proof too. I planned to build a budget build around the MSI x470 pro motherboard to add on to it at a later date and give my son a lesson on spending wisely and research on hardware. We choose the Ryzen 5 2400 vaga processor with the onboard graphics hence its appeal with no graphic card to kick start the build and get it up and running cheap and fast.It worked straight out of the box with the MSI motherboard and 8GB of DDR4 Corsair 2666 Vengeance ram memory and an old harddrive all working within half an hour and once Win 10 installed and Fortnite game to trail it on it was an easy build, in fact the easiest build ive ever done in over 20 years of working with pc. Fortnite returned a HIGH value display setting and having played through my son found no glitching or lagging on the High setting. On the next setting up mega settings it started to glitch, so very impressed with its overall performance as a duel unit of processor and graphics display an 'all in one processor' big tick in the box. This helps you build a decent unit with little potential issues and once you have the money to invest and add on to you learn a bit more without the frustration of compatibility with a dedicated GPU. Since then my son as added a MSI GTX 1060 6gb graphic card and again it went in smoothly and has boasted the performance along with RGB 16gb of Corsair DDR4 3200 speed memory. He's now saving up to replace the Ryzen processor as he has no need for it as the GTX as taken over the graphics now so he's waiting for the Ryzen 7 2800 processor to come out. Now hes hooked on hardware performance and unknowingly he's gaining knowledge of pc builds rather then being a software consumer..... sneaky dad....This Ryzen 5 2400 processor is a gem of a processor and I can see it holding its value for a long time as its a jack of all trades processor and value for money getting you off the gorund on a budget build without an expensive graphic card investment and its given my son a entry level lesson in computer building on a budget getting it up and running and adding to it... just like the old days …...

Firstly, there is AMD clinching setting is Super Virtual Resolution for Windows 10. This allows you to upscale content for your monitor to 3840x2160 (4K) on lower resolution monitors like 1440p or 1080p. This will allow you to watch Amazon Prime Video and Netflix and Youtube HD content on your PC. The difference is pretty impressive. Simply enable under "Display" Adrenalin tab and then go into Windows 10 Display settings and change to 3840x2160 and increase text size to 175%.One of the most important CPU releases of the modern era; the Ryzen 2200G and Ryzen 2400G.The CPU is can be overclocked to 4Ghz,but power efficiency is best around 3.9Ghz at 1.375volts.The GPU can be overclocked to 1.6Ghz at 1.35volts – giving up to an extra 12% increase in FPS.B350 motherboard and this CPU costs are £213.Buying an equivalent CPU is £178 (8400, which is cheaper than the 7700) the motherboard is £92 and RX 550 or GT 1030 is £65. A total of £335.There is a saving of £122, that allows a person to get DDR4-3200 2X4GB (8GB) for around £100, which costs only £25 more than a DDR4-2400 8Gb stick. Please note: don't waste your money on a 16Gb kit. APUs are unlikely to benefit from running 2x8GB (16GB) of DDR4 for gaming.A net saving of £97, it been a while since budget gaming builds had that kind of price cut!By giving GPUs like the RX 550 and GTX 1030 there redundancy notices – AMD will release a lot of GDDR5 (and it’s replacement GDDR6), which will be a blessing in the long-run as AMD has a surplus of GPUs cores to turn into GPUs, but has not had GDDR5 stock to get them to market. The net effect is, budget gamers get substantial cost reduction for their builds. And medium to high-end gamers will see an increase in the availability of GPUs produced by AMD. A win, win situation for all gamers.

just finished a 2400g itx htpc and all I can say is wow. parts used are:in win chopin caseryzen 5 2400ggigabyte auros b450 I8gb 2666mhz hyperx ram512gb intel 760p nvme drivenoctua nfl9 am4my last rig was a I7 2600k with gtx 960 and Samsung ssd which I always considered to be a great but bulky build, so when my wife needed a new office pc, I decided to make a smaller pc for the living room and let her have the I7. so after building I connected it to my sony 55 inch 4k tv and was just amazed, I had read the reviews of people have issues on the b350 platform so I avoided it. I have built about 30 pc's to date and always expect a windows install to take between 30 minutes to 8 hours dependant onthe specification of the machine.I was shocked that this new machine went from entering the windows 10 licence to a full install home screen in just 2 minutes 35 seconds. I then installed the drivers and ran some test.as you can see I posted the photos of cystal disk and this machine just flies. and all while being almost silent.I then set up the gpu to uhd with HDR and wide colour and was blown away by the extra detail I got through this little machine when running a uhd test video, far out doing the gtx 960 I had before for video quality.this machine was built for video playback so please don't shoot me for saying it beat the gtx 960, but for watching films it does.So if your in the market for a tiny pc which will run movies on your 4k machine costing less than £500 to build you really can't go wrong.

The new Raven Ridge APU's like this and the R3 2200G drivers exist only for Windows 10 from AMD as at March 2018.Of the few Linux desktop environments only the lighter/nimble ones worked as neither AMD nor the open-source community have a driver out yet for these new APU's.Mate (Gnome 2) and Xfce on Mint 18.3 worked but not KDE nor Cinnamon (Gnome 3).LXDE (lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) on Debian also worked.Fedora 27 on kernel 4.13 worked until I upgraded it to the latest kernel 4.15.9.AMD drivers are only available for MS Windows 10 presently and AMD Support say there are no plans for additional drivers and hope the open-source community develops one.Unless it is a lightweight desktop it cannot use hardware acceleration (without another GPU card or Win 10).As a result software rendering uses the CPU not the GPU and often will default to a working low resolution of 640 x 480 instead of say 2560 x 1080 as on the lightweight desktops some of which I mentioned above. One distro I tried was Raspian +86 for PC's where it worked on the live CD but screen failed to deliver on Install (weird).- Will update if this changes or if you find open-source drivers become available. please feel free to comment.Otherwise it is a very good APU with fast responses and it zips along when installing Operating Systems for example and other CPU intensive tasks. Some of the new versions of lighter desktops have improved a great deal recently - such as Xfce which you should try.

I have read a few reviews of these apu's and I thought I could help with a few of the problems I have run into.Firstly there are no mothereboards with the correct bios for these apu's which means these will not boot, BUT there is a company called aria pc (manchester) who you can purchase a motherboard with the correct bios for only £8.25 extra on top of the original price, but you have to phone but the service is brilliant. They will also tell you which ram, psu and cases would be compatibleOnce you get the apu's you have to ensure the newest drivers are installed, if you go to the amd website do not use their automatic download tool as this will install the .14 drivers which are useless butonce you put your specs in personally you can get the .17 drivers where you can actually use this apu to play gamesSo far i have been able to play league of legends at over 150 fps on high settings, fortnite on medium/high settings for over 60 fps and ive seen review's showing a very high settings on overwatch and cs:go

This AMD processor is one of the best I have ever come across but they are extremely fiddly to fit mostly due to the fan the CPU's themselves going in seconds and a very easy but the Spire coolers that come with it wow very quiet and efficient are large and bulky and the AMD logo can cover a ram slots on matx motherboard so one RAM slot can be unusable so you have to put the CPU fan in upside down which is a little tricky also on the motherboard I had as this is a type 2 fan not to type 1 you have to remove the clip on parts and make sure to keep the backplate this makes it somewhat Tricky and requires some dexterity on the positive note having tried this processor it is blisteringly fast playseverything that I have thrown at it so far on full 1080p HD on a 24 inch monitor runs flight simulator I have tried YouTube on full HD looks real this processor doesn't miss a beat it's good for games good for everyday use it's cheap reliable and it's AMD so you can't go wrong

I bought this CPU awhile ago and It’s honestly a little beast. I was quite shocked in the performance of this CPU and the inter grated onboard graphics. This CPU may only have 4 core but it’s still gets the job done in most tasks. For gaming it works very well, I was quite shocked, I could run most games above 60fps on low-medium settings which is quite surprising to say the least. This CPU-GPU changes the game really, makes gaming on a budget more affordable for most people.I would recommend this if your gaming on a bigger and don’t wont to fork out loads of money on GPU right at the start of building your system. It also allows you to throw into your system once you get the money to do so.Overall recommend.

Arrived quickly, well packaged, easy to install, AMD have just updated drivers so if you buy dont forget to go to their website to install latest driver, son plays online gaming and performs good for 1080p gaming. I have done budget build list and included this product on Amazon which you can search for - AMD Budget build by Cal-M - or if you would like to see a video on three Ryzen builds just look me up on You-tube "Cal-M complete pc budget builds 2019" in search and you will see the logo. Very pleased with this product performance for price, this has got to be the best integrated graphics on a chip at the moment, includes its own cooler which does a great job too, well made well done AMD.

Yes the RYZEN 5 is a great CPU but this one is only 4 core because the rest of the chip is doing VEGA graphics. For in built graphics it's pretty good. Good enough for less demanding 3D games if you tweak the game settings. This is what you should fit in a PC for office work so that it's better than the usually terrible graphics of an office PC. However if you're intending to game with this then it's the wrong approach. You'd be better off getting the full RYZEN 5 or even a RYZEN 3 and buying a £120 graphics card. This would game better for about the same cost. You're really paying quite a lot of money for the built in graphics.

Very efficient little CPU, and surprisingly powerful graphics performance. I've been able to run every game I've thrown at it at low-medium settings pretty comfortably. Great for any budget build, however if you are able to afford a GPU with the initial build then it is worth the extra cost of a 2600X, a very popular option. If you want even more power than that for equally great value, then the Ryzen 3600X is not a bad choice either. This product has been great for me as I wasn't able to get a GPU until later on, so I was still able to have a fully functional system just with this chip alone and the value is incredible.

What's not to love?Modern AAA titles at 30-40fps at 1080p medium settings for £140 - no graphics card. Can be overclocked out of the box, regardless of the motherboard.Futureproof with long-term support by AMD (as it is a new socket type).AMD really outdid themselves with this chip, for value alone this chip is worth its weight in gold. Not only do you save on getting the GPU (perhaps to get a decent one down the line) you get decent performance to compensate you whilst you wait. It is comparable specs-wise to the Ryzen 5 1600, meaning for any substantial upgrades, to the ryzen 7 series you go.

16.3.2018

Honest opinion - great product.Beats the pants of intels integrated graphics and with the price of graphics cards atm with some being near double in price. The ability to play fortnite, fifa, mass effect with great frame rates on a CPU for £140 is hard to argue with.Only a 4 because - you need an updated motherboard bios for it too work - which may require a lower generation Ryzen CPU - should of been mentioned to customers before purchase but thats the only problem i can think off.

The Ryzen 5 2400g is working great in my Gigabyte b450 elite. on a windows 10 installationBut its early days ,for instance , the integrated graphics did not show at bios post and i am using my old graphic card atmCant fault the cpu but the Gigabyte b450 elite / Ryzen combo is far from a done deal if like me you want a windows 7. 32 / 64 bitsystem. All modern motherboards do not fully support Windows 7 ... it can be done but the road is very bumpy and the end elusiveGood luck
