Amazon have seen fit to cross-post this review between two different products, so I have edited it accordingly. These 4.2metre and 15.2metre Cat5e cables match the product description.+ Strain relief is good between cable and connectors.+ All four pairs are wired to gold plated contacts.+ The release clip has a satisfactory plastic thumb flap.+ The cable is anonymous creamy-grey with 'Amazonbasics' added to the standard type specification.- The featured 'frustration-free' robust box does not fit my generously sized letter-box, and while it was oversized for the 4.2m cable, it was a good fit for the 15.2m cable. A smaller, slimmer jiffy bag might have been more appropriate for the smaller cable. One delivery was packaged inside a standard Amazon Book-wrapper as well - quite un-necessary considering how durable the f-f box is, and which was used alone on the other cable.I've replaced two 2m cables and a junction with the single 4.2m cable.I needed the 15.2m to be able to work out in the garden (no wifi), and tried it during a few brief hours of spring sunshine.A speed test showed that that both work fine at 100MHz. I don't have giganet so cannot comment on the top rate.Value for money is about right for a fiver or less, cheaper cables exist, so do much more expensive ones.Only four stars since they make a big point of featuring the packaging, which is not frustration free.

A very good quality patch cable, with a few nice features which I haven't seen on other cables. The cable is finished off with very flexible but strong necks, which avoid the sharp "shoulder" between the cable and the plug. This reduces the risk of breakage at this most vulnerable joint between hard and soft components. The cable itself is very versatile, and will go around sharp bends without any sign of stress to the shroud or the actual cable beneath. This makes it easier to thread through difficult gaps in cable runs, and will extend the life of the cable. The best "new" feature, to my mind, is the soft thin extension of the flexible "neck" to cover the socket release.Quite often this part (which is always an extension of the hard plug) sticks out, and can easily get snagged on the other cables or plugs when being pluuged or unplugged from the patch panel. The soft hood which extends over the release means that it is extremely unlikely to snag and break, thus extending the useful life of the cable for a much longer time. Some plugs have a thicker hood, which makes unplugging harder, since they are less flexible and resist the light squeeze required to unplug the locking tag.The cable plugged into my D-Link router with a go positive click, and was just as easy to unplug. If I had more computers in the house, I'd be happy to connect all of them with this type of cable.

Products like this can be hard to review. Do they get 5 stars because they do what they say, or do they get 3 because they are so standard they get little chance to excel? This product is a network cable. Yes, that's right, a wire. It's got a plug on each end. If you plug it into a network device at one and end... drum roll maestro... another network device at the other end it creates a link between the two. That means things that didn't communicate before can communicate now. Amazing! But wait! There's more! If you ever get bored of doing that this cable is nearly 15 feet long, so you can use it to tie up your little brother for being annoying. OK, so that's not what it's intended for,but I'm running out of things to say about a network cable.Back to being serious then. I've got a wireless printer but it only supports WPA and not WPA2. My WPA wireless router is a steaming piece of junk that needs rebooting every few times I turn the wireless on and off, and this cable lets me create a physical connection that saves me all the hassle. It's also long enough that I can still put the printer anywhere in my study that takes my fancy. So I rather like it.

This is an excellent quality cable, which functions perfectly, and has a nice design (white with the amazon logo in orange). Amazon Basics is a welcome range of high quality, reasonably priced computing basics and essentials which deserves to be very popular.Just one criticism, not about the product itself but about the packaging. Frustration free packaging it may well be, but it's incredibly wasteful and has a huge carbon footprint. My cable, which measures 4.2m long by 0.05m thick, (and coiled round and fixed with an elastic band without being damaged) was delivered in a very large box, so large it came by parcel force van. When I saw the box I thought it was a huge encyclopaedia inside!Inside this large box was another, almost as large, box which contained the cable. I'm sure my little cable would have fitted perfectly into a jiffy bag, saving packaging and also fitting through my letterbox rather than being treated as a large package! If amazon sort out the issue of wasteful packaging, they have a perfect, truly award worthy range of high quality, affordable computing basics. Just make the pakaging a bit more basic, too!

Throughout the years I have reviewed a range of items, books, dvd's, music, films the list goes on and on, but this has to be the most obscure item I have ever had the opportunity to review. Because I work in IT I come across a whole range of CAT 5 cables, some home made some manufactured. When I recieved this I swapped it right away from my downstairs router to my pc. Getting the older CAT 5 cable out that had been in was quite tricky because the release clip hadn't been used in a long time and the dust didn't help either. This is why I like and preferred using this cable. It has been designed with the awkwardness in mind by taking away the anoying plastic covering and replacing it with a cover that does work.No more pressing down hard when removing the cable and snapping off my finger nails in the process the simple plastic cover makes it far easier to remove the cable from both router and pc. Other than that when plugged in the data transfers just as fast as before.

The AmazonBasics range continues to expand as a welcome reaction to the often overpriced cabling industry. This ethernet cable does exactly what you'd expect, performing just as well as any other. I have tested it with HD video streaming to an Xbox360 and had no trouble at all.Build quality is fine, although the soft rubber pads just cover the tip of the plastic clip rather than surrounding it entirely as on many other standard ethernet cables. This makes the connectors feel slightly flimsy if you're likely to be disconnecting and reconnecting it constantly. However if, like me, you're connecting home computers or electronics there are no complaints at all.The "frustration-free" packaging is worthy of praise too.Rather than fighting your way through unnecessary plastic packaging with a saw, the cable comes in a simple, sealed cardboard box. No fuss and you'll have it out in moments.

I was in need of a longer cable to connect my PS3 to a router... hence I turned to Amazon's basics range. There isn't much to say about a cable that does the job - speeds are fine and the connectors are fairly sturdy. What I don't appreciate is having to run to the postal depot to pick up the package - why create 'easy packaging' that is far too big for the item and letterbox? I understand Amazon's needs to realise economies of scale with their packaging, but I would consider getting a pair of scissors to open a blister pack easier than getting in the car and missing work in order to pick up a cheap cable! If it seems unfair to rate the item based upon its packaging, just consider that Amazon *sell* this product as 'frustration free' and therefore I have taken that into consideration.

I don't know much about networking, but I do know that the data transfer speed between my network drive and computer has more than doubled from 6mbps to 20mbps using this cable. Which highlights the difference a high quality networking cable makes to your data transfer speeds! As usual with AmazonBasics products, the quality is excellent. The Cat5 cable has a thick plastic coating and (I suspect) it will outlast the cables I have been using for the past few years. However the big let down is the frustration-free packaging. Yes, it is easy to open and is recyclable, but it is too big. An excellent idea though! In conclusion, I can highly recommend this cable above all others.Another excellent product from AmazonBasics!

I have bought the cable to extend my Wifi router from the modem to improve the coverage of the Wifi signal in the house. The coverage is better now without the loss of internet speed. The package was well packed and it was delivered on time. The quality of the connector and the cable looks good although I cannot comment on the durability of the cable as of now. The only thing I don’t like about the product is the plastic support on the connector that protects the clip. It is a little too long. I had to fold it back to connect the connector to my router. Although it is a minor issue, it can also be rectified easily. This cable is highly recommended for household use.

I person buying a beige Patch cable will be looking for something basic, no frills, no fancy packaging and at a low price. What can I say about this? It's a beige patch cable, very long and kinda cable-y.The wires are well attched to the connectors. You don't have the boots over the ends but I don't like these anyway. It's supplied in it's brown postal box; which is what all the "fustration-free packaging" is all about. This one worked fine other 10/100, didn't try gigabit so can't commentYou can get lower priced cables elsewhere, maybe a quid or so cheaper, otherwise it's fine! I look forward to seeing more Amazon Basics products in the future!Cheers.

This cable is delivered in a plain recyclable (or reusable) cardboard box and eliminates the need to fuss with any of that irritating moulded plastic packaging. I think that this cable is just perfect. It works as well as any other cable. We were quite confident in ordering this as we have purchased other Amazon Basics cables before and were very impressed with what we got for a lot less money than the leading brand. It is often noted that cheaper cables do not last as long due to bending and flexing, but we have a few of these cables for various purposes and have not had a problem. Overall, we are impressed with this range of cables.

Amazon have finally corrected the price on this cable - for a few weeks they were advertising it at 45 British pounds for a 4.2m cable. This was obviously an error on Amazon's part, but it took too long to correct (and since it was corrected people have obviously marked my review down as 'unhelpful' - thanks for that, I was warning people about a genuine error! Now that the price is correct again at less than a fiver this is a pretty good cable. The flexibility of the cable and quality of the RJ45 type terminations are good. The cable does retain some of its 'kink' from being coiled in the box, but other than that very good.

28.9.2018

I trust AmazonBasics for everything. They always manage to produce the best products for the best price and quality. When it comes to RJ45 cables, many on the shelf that are in the price range as this one are just garbage, the connector just snaps off after a few uses. But this cable made of the highest quality materials and I am certain it will last long. When it comes to Amazon and the products they offer, you just have to buy without any hesitation and thinking too much, simply because they have the best customer service in the planet.Overall grading :Quality: 5/5Price: 5/5Reliability: 5/5

Ill be honest, I needed an ethernet cable, this is an ethernet cable, much beyond that I cannot say. It seems to transfer files rapidly enough. It bends and doesnt snap and it clicks nicely in place. The transfer rate is fast and the cable is pretty chunky and doesnt feel like it will be wearing through any time soon. The only qualm that I have is the packaging, a box that was perhaps 5 tiems as big as it needed to be, and packaging that destroyed my nails whilst I tried to open it. Perhaps it was some sort of reverse psycology that hoped to make me think it was easy to open - it didnt work!

16.11.2011

Needed a new Ethernet cable as the fiddly bit on one of the plugs on the original router cable broke off (causing me to spend hours trying to determine the cause of our intermittent broadband fault!!). Only wanted a couple of meters, but this seemed to be a good buy, so I got it anyway. In the end, the extra long cable enabled me to tidy all those "bloody boxes with their blinking lights" away on top of the book case, where She Who Can't be Ignored can't see them. So, result all round. And all for just over a fiver. Maplin, etc - we're laughing at you!
