12/1 UPDATE: Another new pair shoes! My previous Lone Peak 4.5 gave a good battle, but in the end, the tread wore off, and my feet began to hurt. I go through shoes every 8-10 weeks as I walk 8-12 miles per day. For the first time ever though, I got a blister on the back on my heel. What?! Since when?! Clearly I did something wrong. Laced them too tight maybe? I don't know, I still love them. Very comfortable (once the blister healed), and my feet don't hurt now that I am in new shoes. To the reviewers that have mentioned the fabric fraying, here's what I noticed about mine. It doesn't happen in the winter. I realized that as I am walking, when one foot is going forward, the tread is very lightly hitting the fabric on the opposite shoe. When I am wearing shorts, they get beat up A LOT. They look terrible by the end of the first week. Once the colder weather hits, and I wear pants, not an issue. The pictures attached show August/September (combo shorts & pants) and October/November(pants). Sorry, I already threw out my early summer pair (which looked 100 times worse) so I can't include a picture of those._______________________________________________________________________________I love Altra shoes. I used up the last of my Lone Peak 3.5 (I bought 6 pairs because they were just so great) and needed new pair. I am always leery about redesigns of my favourite style of shoes. No need for concern this time around. They fit perfect (I'm an 8). Other shoes I usually need to wear an 8W as my feet are just a touch too wide for 'normal' width. I have never had a problem with width on Altras due to the foot shape design. Plenty of room for my toes to stretch out. Honestly, I can't think of a negative on these shoes. :)

I bought a pair of Lone Peaks 3 years ago. They were my FAVORITE shoe! I trekked through Nepal in them, I used them as my approach shoe, I backpacked in them, I got into trail running in them and ran my first back country marathon in them. I loved them so much I definitely wore them for too long. I maxed out their mileage very early but continued to use them.Early this summer I decided to do the right thing and buy new shoes. I of course was going to buy new Lone Peaks. I was low key thrilled about the poppy color; I don’t typically care about color as long as they function. But I have never had so many problems with my feet. I have NO idea what they changed, I’m sure something, but whatever they changed sucks for me. I have been having the worst pain in my knees and hips. My ankles were killing me. I’ve just never had these problems before.I’m always open to the idea that I got injured while skiing this year or that I’m just getting older and can’t run marathons without pain now but I noticed a MASSIVE difference in my performance upon switching to these shoes.I still give it 4 stars because Altra makes the best running shoe hands down. The tow box is a life savor. They are super light weight. They are my favorite shoe. Just stop changing shoes. I understand not every shoe will fit every person but then just make a different shoe while also supporting your older models. My first lone peaks were amazing. I miss them oodles.

Edited - I thought I remembered when reading the reviews that the shoe had a stone guard...otherwise I wouldn't have ordered them. After further research, these shoes do have a removable stone guard included in the box. Well...I think I threw them out on accident in my rush to get things done. I just contacted Altra to try and purchase a set and they are shipping out stone guards at no charge. Totally awesome customer service and I can't wait to try them out! I think it will totally change this shoe for me and I'm really glad because I totally love the look. Will update after trying them out. Yes, the lightbulb over my head doesn't turn on all of the time.I've worn these shoes twice on the trail and have barely been able to walk for over a month now due to stone bruising. There is no rock guard in the soles, and with minimal cushioning you can feel everything that you step on. They are absolutely adorable and very roomy in the toe box. Not good for Arizona rocky trails but maybe some other part of the country. As an endurance athlete, this purchase has caused a major set back in my training and I won't be buying them again. Too bad because I really love the look.

Bought these after some friends we went backpacking with had them and these are a great lightweight trail option. I was worried they wouldn't have enough grip for the broken chunks of granite you might come across or the really lose gravel parts of trails but these babies did the job! I "broke them in" (although not needed) on a local trail for only about 1.5 miles before taking them on a backpacking trip. They fit well with my two-layer sock system to avoid blisters (I was worried the bulky wool sock might make it too snug) so I'm a believer in the wider toe box -- Way more comfortable than the narrow box on my boot. After our 15 mile backpacking trip, they held up pretty well! There is some slight tearing on the fabric above the shoe string holes nearest my ankles but I do think I'd purchase these again once they've hit their mileage. I feel as though I'd only use my boots now in colder weather adventures. Absolutely love these!

Love these runners! Super comfy with a wide toe box...makes all the difference. They fit true to size for me. I go between a 10-11 so opted for the 10.5. Glad I did as I think with the wide toe box an 11 would have been too big and caused slippage in the heel. I’ve worn them hiking and trail running over 30 miles so far with no issues. The grip is solid. I’m running a lot of snowy and icey trails this winter and although I do slip here and there for the most part they are awesome. They are not water resistant by any means tho. The attached picture is after an hour running in the snow. You can clearly see the entire upper is wet. However my feet do not get soaked or feel cold if I wear some sort of wool sock...I’d rather that than pay double the price for waterproof material...just don’t be submerging your feet in water and you’ll be good. Overall highly recommended. Prolly my favorite pair of runners I’ve had in 5 yrs.

Since my favorite style of Hoka running shoes were discontinued, I needed to find a good replacement. I run a lot and go through at least 3 or 4 pairs of running shoes every year. First of all, I LOVE the berry color, but of course, color means nothing if the shoes don't fit right. As for comfort, they are quite comfortable and roomy in the toe box. They took a tiny bit of getting used to since the drop and general feel of the shoe were quite different from my old Hokas. After putting on about 50 miles, I can honestly say I do like the Altra Lone Peak 4.5 and will most likely purchase a second pair soon.

My first Altra shoes and finally the forefoot fits without being squeezed. The lacing is good and it fits well on the foot but the toes have room to move. No problem to fit molded inserts either in length or height. In many shoes, the insert makes you get too high up in the comfort of the heel. No problem here though! It feels stable sideways, which is not the case with the Altra Superior 4.5. However, it is large in size. My foot is 24.7 and I first ordered size 40 which according to the table is 25. It was way too big so I ordered 39 which works great. Maybe even could have had 38.5. Satisfied so far!

I ordered these Altra Lone Peaks in order to have a second pair, I was so happy with my first ones, walked a full Camino without a single problem, didn't even have to break them in. The large toe box was perfect for bunions. So I ordered these ones about a month ago and decided to go half size smaller as I felt the first pair could have been a little more snug. Sadly however, the half size were too tight especially when you have to fit thick socks into them. I just tried on one shoe and had to send them back. Weeks have gone by and the seller has not refunded me. A big blow to my experience with Altra.

This is the most incredible trail running shoe. I went for a 7 mile run in them as soon as they arrived and it was like nothing I have ever experienced before. The toe is wide, allowing your toes to spread open, and they feel so light yet the sole is grippy and thick enough for running over rocky uneven surfaces. I bought mine a half size bigger than usual in order to save my toenails on downhills, but honestly, with these shoes, I feel like there's so much room in the toes that you could buy them to fit exactly. I had no blisters after the 7 miles too, btw. What a great shoe *sigh*

LOVE IT! This is actually my 2nd time purchasing it because my 1st one got stolen after only wearing it 2 times!I am a hiker, road, and trail runner and usually use Hokas Challenger. I am so glad I got these. GREAT FOR TRAILS, nice gator features (shown on photo). The mid foot part fits great as well as the toe box, with some room to work with. If you find a bit too roomy, a thicker running sock. I recommend training in these shoes before doing something crazy. It’s a zero or lesser shoe heel drop that and if you don’t train on it you can/might injure your calf/ tendon.

I had orthopedic surgery on my right foot and my doc recommended Altra shoes as did one of the ultra light hiker influencers. They are so right! I took the Trail Runners out of the box and walked 6 miles that day on asphalt in comfort. The toe box is roomy, so no hot spots, and the entire shoe is made of fabric that is light weight, allows for good air flow, and just feels great. The soles protect my feet, but give me the feeling of almost walking barefoot. Completely comfortable. I have already ordered my second pair-I can't really wear red every day, now can I.

I love Altras and these are my third pair, first pair of trail shoes. I wore through my first two pairs and they each lasted a couple years. Love the roomy toe box. The shoes have great grip and have been very comfortable. I have pretty large feet for a woman and usually wear either a 10 or 11. I ordered an 11 in this particular pair because I usually like my athletic shoes to be a little roomier. However, I kind of wish I would have gone with a 10.5 on these as they seem to be slightly bigger than I would like and my feet slip a little going downhill.

I absolutely love this shoe! I'm 74 and have had alot of foot problems. I recently had a toe fusion and my hiking shoes wouldn't fit because of the slight upward design at the toes. I was hiking in my regular sneakers and was slipping on gravel, and rocks. I was desperate. After some research I found these. They are lightweight, have excellent traction and give me amazing stability. They may look a little big on your feet because of the wide toe box but who cares when your feet feel so great! I quickly ordered a second pair.

I have been using the Lone Peak 4.5 for the last few weeks and it has been a game-changer. I am able to hike further without any discomfort. The toe box is a bit wider than normal which helps for any swelling for long-distance hikes. The tread is pretty aggressive which has helped as I cross slippery rock, moss, and muddy areas. They also have a fair amount of cushion. I love these so much that I have recommended them to friends and family and have the men's version for my husband.

These shoes are so roomy in the toes and feel good on my feet. The grip is awesome, you can really feel it on concrete. The high back rubbed my right heel the first week wearing them so I had to figure out the exact way to tie them to keep it from happening. It gave me a little bit of a blister but it felt better after a few days. I have hike about 2 miles a day in them since I got them! I've stepped in puddles and I felt them get wet but they didn't stay wet. Good shoes!
