Expensive, but well made.Great looking piece of kit, works well.I wanted a stainless steel moka-pot to go on a glass-topped halogen hob.We have had a couple of less expensive pots from a famous maker that were poorly made. I went ahead and spent the money on the 6 cup version of the Sapper pot by Alessi. However, I found that I frequently made half a pot and messing about with the 3 cup adapter was a mess and a fiddle. So when I had the opportunity I went ahead and bought the 3 cup version. Perhaps it is a bit excessive but I'm very happy with this purchase.Things to be aware of:Alessi Spare parts aren't easy to come by. (Edit 21/1/2020 much easier to get spares direct from Alessi than it used to be.)3 Cups is 150ml about a 3rd of a large mug. It's not Espresso, but it is STRONG and can easily stand a bit of dilution (Americano style).Coarser grinds work best as the holes in the funnel are not particularly fine. (Edit 21/1/2020 Coarser than Espresso but not gravel more like sharp sand)The base is only 11cm in diameter - a smallish ring on your hob is best. The handle looks like plastic in the photographs but it is in fact stainless steel. It is used to clamp the pot closed - a system that is far more convenient and error free than other screw on pots.

I had a wanted a traditional stove top espresso pot for ages but I didn't want aluminium so began to research stainless steel. When I saw this Alessi I thought the design was so beautiful but as it is expensive, I researched a lot of reviews and also watched some youtube footage - the deciding point for me was the discovery that instead of the usual tricky screw thread connection, it has very easy 'click to lock' system, which works every time without flaw. There is no steam leaking out of releasable connection and the pot is easy to open even when still hot. This is particularly brilliant for me as I have very weak wrists following carpal tunnel op and find it simply impossible to unscrew my daughter's more traditional stove top espresso pot.Although this is 6 cup size,do remember these are espresso cups - tiny but very strong. If you want a more Americano style, simply pour one-third to half a mug full and top up with hot water. And if you want to make a smaller quantity there is a reducer filter for the coffee chamber. This pot makes wonderful traditional Italian style coffee in moments - it only needs a very low heat - and no wires or electrical systems to go wrong. Oh, and it pours beautifully without a single drip.Read full review...

I initially didn't see what all the fuss was about. I mean, how can one small stove top coffee maker be a game changer. Especially when it cost over $100.... I really didn't want to spend that kind of money. But I had a Venus Bialetti and it was horrid. It leaked around/down the handle when brewing and trying to pour coffee. This Alessi 6 cup is just so perfectly designed I see why its in MOMA. It goes together and comes apart very quickly and easily. It cleans easily. I did have to mess with the gasket and filter on the bottom until I found what works to get them out/apart. I use a Lodge cast iron cleaning tool, you know the small hard vinyl scrapers for inside cast iron skillets?Well the edge of one of those pushed just strongly into the gasket forces it up and pops out of the bottom and Voila! you clean it.The coffee I have made in this pot is excellent. Strong espresso, cappuccino, decaf and regular brew. I can make myself one large very strong brew and fill my travel mug in the a.m. and head out for the day knowing I have my jolt of caffeine. I will be buying more of these for wedding gifts. They are just a wonderful kitchen tool.Read full review...

I'm no coffee expert but my boyfriend and I do love stove-top espresso makers as they are more efficient than the machines or cafétieres. We had previously bought a cheap one to try it out before I bought this one. What a difference! It has a beautiful and well-thought-out design. Most coffee makers have a screw-on/screw-off base which makes it difficult to get on and off, and causes the coffee to spill all over the place. The Alessi clicks on very firmly with no hassle. It has a tab at the top so that opening the lid is easy and you don't get scalded by steam (learned from experience). Probably my favourite aspect of the design is the non-spilling spout. With the other coffee maker half of the coffee ended up in the saucer because it dribbled from the spout along the body, but the Alessi has none of this trouble. It also doesn't dis-colour like the aluminium makers.Just be careful not to burn yourself on the metal handle, and the coffee maker parts stay very hot for a while so take care when dismantling.

This is a very beautiful and innovative design; its main departure from classic moka pot designs is how the upper section--where the coffee ends up--attaches to the little tank. Other designs have the upper section screwing down onto the tank, with the seal being effected through a rubber gasket. With the Alessi 9090, the attachment is via a snap-down mechanism involving the handle. Here's the thing: if the snap-down seal is not good enough, steam escapes past the join and there's not enough pressure to make a pot of coffee. This happened in my case when I used Lavazza coffee, ground for moka pots (rather fine), but not when I used a coarser grind coffee such as Starbucks. My fix was to make a washer out of a sheet of 1mm thick microwave-safe plastic and place it between the gasket and the upper pot. This made all the difference, and now even an espresso grind works with the Alessi. This problem wouldn't arise with a screw-down, but I'm happy now with my little fix.

This gracefully designed pot is absolutely marvelous because of the original locking system. Instead of the usual tricky screw thread connection, it has very easy 'click to lock' system, which works every time without flaw. There is no steam leaking out of releasable connection and the pot is handy to open even when still hot. I have used it now many years in daily bases, even carried it always with me to outdoor trekking, since it is a perfect fit to my small camping cooker. I love it so that I have been given it to present for many of my friends when ever having a chance.

Great stovetop coffee, the traditional way. The ingenious design is not only beautiful, but makes the machine easy to open and close. No fiddling around with screw assembly, it's a lever that squeezes the top into place. Literally takes 10 seconds to rinse. The best bit: the little reducer in the filter for smaller amounts. It saves you having to buy a smaller machine.

It looks beautiful. The only issue is that the handle gets VERY hot when it is on a gas hob. However I knew that was going to happen so it isn't an issue. It also pours very well. The coffee it makes seems to be the same as all the coffee I drink from small espresso coffee makers.

I threw away my aluminium coffee maker as it was corroded. I wanted a nice steel one and this one was expensive but you get what you pay for. It looks beautiful and works perfectly. Very happy with my purchase.

Sexy looking coffee maker. Bit of a fiddle for a small amount of coffee...still, it's new to us and maybe we're not quite in the swing of it yet. Very lovely machine. Looks super shiny and classy on the stove!

I owned an identical (well not induction) espresso maker that I bought in the beginning of the 1980s. It got lost in the turmoils of life. If memory serves me right, it had a tad higher standard of finishing.

A bit tricky to get started as it is so different from other coffee makers but once mastered it is very easy to use and makes excellent coffee. And it is just so beautiful!

beautiful piece of design. really enjoy using it. only complaint would be that it's pretty hard to detach the main body from the base, it does require some force!

Durable, good looking, makes great coffee quickly and economically. Replaces my electric bulky monster that took up too much space and money via electric bills.

Good design but the vapor leaks. Have tried to contact Alessi customer service and see how it goes.
