I ordered this headphones due to great expert reviews. I use them for mixing. I'M used to all sort of headphones and studio monitors. This AKG's are not expensive compared to sound quality they give. I use them for mixing, video editing, background music listening and dedicated music listening. I plug them on my Smartphone to listen to the radio station, iPod, PC, TV... They give similar quality sound out of any source (even from smartphone which is rather lower quality, and I rarely listened it, before this AKG's. It's OK for radio stations though).CONS: The actual built quality is very fine, but they look like a cheap clone of some premium product. Much cheaper consumer phones I have looks more premium than these. But this is pure aesthetic opinion. Who looks at them while in darkened studio :)PROS (just some of it): I praise mostly the flat response throughout whole spectrum. This is only headphone I have which do not need EQ adjustment.I like how easy and 'polite' sound this headphone produce. I mean they make smooth and pleasant sound even with MP3's, and I like to listen very complex music through them, which I would never on lower quality phones. They are comfortable! I'm prone to headache because of headphones, if they are not over ear and big enough. AKG provide vinyl and velour ear pads. I could not decide which are more comfortable. I ended using vinyl on one side and velour on other. I can't tell the difference. Even after long time sweat is on both side. Maybe a drop less on velour side. But I do not sweat much under these. Opposite to other phones I have. It means great spare ear pads already included :)Cable: There are two of them. Again good. I can change connection on headphone rather than on hard to reach PC output when I work on a PC. Other twisted cable I use for all other uses, because it is shorter. Cable is bulky and heavy compared to consumer products, a bit hard too. But I believe it will last long. But I can always buy new one, since phones have XLR mini connector.Self adaptive overhead strap is comfortable. I'm bald and very sensitive on top of my head. Most other phones gives me pain after hour or so. I often forget them on while working on PC, even after I'm done with what I listened.Great product and even Amazon delivery was faster than estimate.EDIT: After 4 months of usage I must take ONE STAR away from my initial review due to wearing comfort. I do not sweat under either of pads, but head and ears becomes so worm under and I'm prone to get headacke after a while. This is more prominent with vinyl pads. Pads are rather hard and unpleasant on skin. Under ears where no hair grows they soon stick to skin. While velour pads gives me better feel on skin and they worm up inside less, they also have smaller inside diameter (they are thicker padded) which means that they are not all around the ears but presses on my ears at edges which starts to hurt me after while. Workaround is to move them around a bit to "catch" ears inside pads. But that makes another problem: Velour part of pads are heat-glued together with plastic inner part where seams would be in vinyl pads, in the middle of inside diameter. That "seam" is quite hard with sharp edges, so sometimes it hurts me. I wish pads would be made out of better quality or even leather (I would buy upgrade pads if I knew they were better quality).Other negative is very heavy and sturdy coiled cable, because much of the weight is concentrated on short lenght. Coiled part begins 60 cm after headphone, which is just fine if you sit at the table. Than all weight lays on the table. But soon as you move coiled part falls down and than all weight is on one side of head. I tend to change cable depend on usage. While straight cable is soft and light, coiled one is hard, sturdy and heavy. Probably good for some rough enviroment, but for calm studio work I wish lighter and more flexible cable (as straight is). I still rather use coiled one, because is shorter.Using this hard cable becomes a problem if connected to some portable device (iPod or smarthpone), because its heavier than device and device tends to fall from desk if cable fells on my knees while seating.Maybe I'm picky but I found myself that I do not use this phones as much as I thought. Often I use "regular" HiFi phones of I do not mix, because they are more comfortable.PS: some claims that this phones are hard to drive. That is correct to some level. Fore professional gear there is no problem. But if connected on PC internal sound card, sound will not be powerfull. I own Brainwawz AP001 headphone amplifier. That make whole difference on PC output. And not so much difference in iPod. So it depends on device output. But connecting headphones to good source is revarding.

Great quality headphones. I'm no audio engineer but the EQ sounds flatter than anything I've listened to before (this is good for use with mixing). Personally, I found these really comfortable, the headband consistently adjusts well for a comfortable fit (however, there are some reviews that say otherwise - I have longer hair so perhaps that helps pad it out a bit). I will note that in prolonged use, my ears do get quite warm - though I think that would be the same with most over-ear headphones (I had the same problems in prolonged used with my Sennheiser HD 201).The semi-openness makes a huge difference to closed-back style (again, comparing to my HD 201)- harshly panned sounds sound like they are coming from the extremes of the side of your head - and by nature the sound sounds more 'open', less collecting inside the middle of your head.Obviously of note, if you work in a somewhat noisy environment these are probably not the headphones to go for, you can still hear a somewhat decent amount from your surroundings, but I'd imagine a lot less than full-open back style headphones. The build quality feels sturdy enough, I have dropped them a few times and have never had to be concerned about them having any perceivable damage. If I remember correctly, it ships with two ear cups - One made of spongy material and the other made of leathery material. I've only tried the leathery one (I figured my ears would get to hot in the spongy ones) and have found them very comfortable. The headphones also come with two cables with Mini(?)-XLR connectors on one end and a 3.5mm jack on the other. One is a long straight cable, the other a wound cable. I use both cables. When I'm on my laptop I use the wound cable, and at my PC I use the straight cable (as it needs to be routed to the other side of my desk).I haven't particularly tested it, but I don't think the way you put the headphones on matters (The cups and headband seems to be uni-directional) so if you're bothered about having the cable on your left, I shouldn't imagine you'd suffer any discomfort from rotating the headphones around - obviously remember to swap the channels on your hardware though. For the price - I'm really impressed, and more than satisfied. I've owned these for 8 months and not had a single problem or issue. Would recommend.

I bought my k240 mkII last year and I should say I got them pre-owned. They weren't in a particularly good state but. I bought new cushions and foam and gave them a good clean. I have been happy with them ever since.First of all the pros:+ Excellent sound+ Can run off an iphone, ipad, macbook etc. without an amp+ Reliable+ Exchangeable cable+ Comfortable fit for most people+ Best of both worlds (semi-open)+ Cheap replacement partsCons- Sometimes feel flimsy (Built quality has been better at AKG)- Labels and logos sometimes have printing errors in them- Headphones creak and rattle when you move them(They don't creak when you move your head for example, and compared to consumer grade headphones they are still sturdy a.f.)Although they might not feel as robust as, say, Beyerdynamic 770s they are really reliable and while some 770s suffer from broken cables, this is not an issue with the k240s (the cables run inside the metal frame and are not exposed at all).Another thing I love about them is that they do not sound overly bright like some other modern headphones, the k240s have a very nice tonal balance, and the sound does not ever get tiring. When I first go them I had hoped for souper open very bright and transparent "wow-factor" sound which I didn't get because if anything they sound more like closed cans but they did impress with their honest musical quality. Would buy again, especially at the current price point. They are a steal.

Lots of people have written reviews which cover most of the main points so I will keep it brief. The sound is very open and beautifully flat. If you are a bass junkie then you will likely complain it isn't enough. Otherwise the sound is excellent from most sources although they can make low bitrates sound rough.Very comfortable. Self adjust and having not much hair, the wide headband makes them good for extended listening. I am using the velour pads as I found the vinyl ones a bit hot although even the velour ones get hot after a while. The are very large so I wouldn't recommend for outdoor wear and if you do,realise there will be plenty of sound leakage and little isolation. The materials used are mostly plastic but spares are available for every part and overall they are very sturdy. I have however had the large plastic rings/covers on each ear crack. They are still in place and it does not affect the sound but clearly plastic is plastic. The 'home' version of the 240s is a 55 ohm headphone (from memory) so you will need to turn your normal volumes up or use a headphone amplifier depending on how loud you like it.The bottom line is that they sound great and are comfortable. The plastic construction is generally robust and you will likely have to turn up the volume. Worth the money? Well it is a lot of money but over 2 years of use and they still sound great - a sound investment you could say.

After much research, I came up with these as my main studio reference headphones. Having had to downsize my studio due to an injury, I can no longer use my nearfield monitors as much as before and have to rely on headphones much more than before. If you want a set of headphones that sound awesome to sit and listen to your music collection through, then these may disappoint. But, if you want to be able to hear every nuance of your mix, knowing that, whatever speakers your music is played on, it will sound as it should be, these are exactly what you need. Many headphones are heavy on the bass, a bit "muddy" in the mid range and high on the top end - just like pressing the "loudness" button on your hi-fi.Lovely to listen to but useless for mixing. These faithfully reproduce what you put into them, without colouration or distortion - exactly what you need to produce a professional result. They have non of that lack of distinction in the mid range found in so many others in this price range. There very comfortable for prolonged sessions and EXTREMELY light. If I had a criticism, it would be that, being open backed, ambient noise can filter through somewhat - but it's a small price to pay for all the other benefits.

(this review was originally posted in 2011, but somehow it moved to the AKG K240s, i.e. not the not MKII)25 years ago I needed a pair of studio headphones, and after exploring all the music technology stores (no internet!) I bought a pair of AKG K240s. Not cheap, but worth every penny. I thought they would last for ever, but a few years ago my son started borrowing them for gaming, and as the crimps in the cable accumulated they eventually gave up. Unlike in the new version, the cable could not be replaced.I assumed that technology would have moved on, so I tested some new makes and models at comparable prices, and was disappointed. They sounded good but were uncomfortable,or they sat nicely but the treble was harsh, the bass booming. Eventually I reverted back to the K240s, with their comparatively dull looks, and it was a revelation, like discovering the obvious all over again. So comfortable that you can wear them all day and fall asleep in them, bright high ends but not harsh, clear bass, and totally neutral - you hear the music the way it was recorded.AKG have made a few subtle tweaks, but externally they are identical to my first pair - and 3 decades on they still set the standard.

I used to have a pair of AKG K140 headphones but these were falling apart after many years of excellent service! I love the AKG phones as they always produce a very naturally equalised sound but also able to deliver power. So, what would I choose. I avoided the obvious K141 as I play Bass and mix music and sometimes the spill from the K140's was really noticeable. I opted for the K240 Mk II and boy am I pleased! Far less spillage with the circum aural design and wow, what quality and clarity these produce. Live sound is natural, MP3 sounds good and original CD is brilliant. I am not dissapointed with these, in fact, even after just a few hours of use they have surpassed my expectations. You would have to purchase a serious pair of studio phones to beat these. Only one minor point, the plastic muffs do make your ears fairly warm after a few hours use but hey, you cant really use anything else apart from maybe some fine leather. Don't forget, AKG (a force on their own) are owned by Top spec HiFi company, Harman. PS comes with a spare set of ear muffs and a coiled lead (I like the original straight cord).

I've not had these that long but have now listened to a reasonable range of music. I use them to listen to music played from CDs through a HiFi system at moderate volume reclined on my recliner while nobody is around to interrupt my listening. These headphones certainly have a detailed and balanced sound, but the bass is sometimes a bit boomy or resonant, which is not ideal. Regarding ease of use, I like the single straight cable but I don't find these headphones particularly comfortable. My ears aren't really accommodated in what are supposed to be an "over-ear" design and although the cushioning feels soft enough when handled, when being worn these headphones lack sufficient adjustment to make them really comfortable.Overall, I like the detailed, balanced sound but the resonant bass and moderate comfort mean that I'll be looking for something slightly better in the near future.

I have the K702s, but wanted a cheap pair that I could be a bit more careless with. I use this to both create/produce music and to enjoy music and general YouTube stuff. I use this with Focusrite audio interfaces. Honestly, these have surpassed my expectations.Keep in mind that the K240 MKII is essentially a £35 pair headphones. It's the same as the K240 Studio, but it comes with a change of ear pads and a coil cable replacement. I'd recommend this over the K240 Studio just for that coiled cable. The only slight downside, I'd say they feel like cheap plastic, but it doesn't matter, they're great for long listening and sound fantastic. Not going to compare the sound to more expensive headphones, because that would be a bit pointless. I will say if you get these and you make music, you won't be disappointed, they're very enjoyable.

Headphone reviews are very subjective to the user,i will just stick to the factsThese are not bass monsters but can be equalised to up the bass of course.Quite bright in the treble area but not over bearing ,i like the crisp highs.Vocals seem very clear.Probably no good for mobile devices need too much juice to fully push these, i have a creative sb z card that can push 600 ohms so all ok there,Some nice quality Velvet type spare pads which are nice, the pleather type come fitted, spare coiled cable which is good.Comfortable for me ,i like the headband style, but some find it uncomfortable.Leak a lot of sound and you can hear nearly every thing from the outside,Using these for music and gamingboth work very well.Would recomend at the price at the moment.

To start these are not meant for normal listening to music , the AKG240's are meant for mastering in a studio enviroment if you are looking for headphones for just listening look for closed back headphones as these will leak sound they are meant to do that as they are for showing up all the bad parts of track so you can master it.With that now said if you are looking for refrence headphones then these are proven over years being used as standard in all studios because they are made for the job.Comftable, detailed sound , replacable lead and look great. If you are looking for refrence headphones for mastering in this price range buy them they out perform any other in this price range andhigher.

At first I hated the sound of these headphones. They really lacked the bass I was used to. Turns out I was dead wrong. Not only are these headphones super value for money.. it is the way that they do not hype the bass that makes them ideal for long mixing sessions. If you pair them with quality velour replacement ear pads, they become absolutely amazing. Just know that they are not ideal for tracking performance. The open back design will bleed into mics. May also not be ideal if you want isolation from a noisy environment. Thing is... they are so comfortable that you forget they are on your head and have a sound that you can get to know and love. For this price it’s a no brainier.

These really are excellent, with that trademark AKG transparency and effortless reproduction.Nothing seems strained, harsh or pushed with these headphones, providing an astonishingly clean and level response. They're also light and very comfortable, even after the 2 hour session I just had while trying them with various inputs covering solo piano, piano plus orchestra, solo voice - bass, tenor and soprano - cathedral choir, solo pipe organ both sweetly fluty and French reeds roaring: everything so clean and sparkling clear to the extent that a faint hum is clearly audible on a "professional" recording.Definitely recommended.

These headphones are for discernable ears, that enjoy the neutral sounds over over synthetic tops and bass. It's quality takes time to adjust to, but if listening to classical, accostic, jazz music you learn to appreciate the instruments and the pan arrangement, as if you were there.Build quality is retro but sturdy..., I find myself challenging the sound quality and am listening to way more classical music....Have not yet been disappointed. But if your looking for bass and high ends these are definitely not for you...In addition, have had these headphones for few weeks and had cable issues where lost sound in one of the cans.

I've never had bass reception so good on headphones. Listening to anything is a joy with these. Synthwave? Korn? Iron Maiden? Muse? It's honestly heaven for me to listen to anything with these on. Only downside is you *need* to get a pair of aftermarket ear pads for these headphones- after a while the leather they use becomes a swear magnet for your ears, and caused pain in my ear lobe. Once I replaced those, I've been able to keep them on my head for five, six hours at a time without feeling weight nor fatigue.
