Airfix's Quick Build range is a bit like a cross between a traditional Airfix model and a Lego kit. Actually, it's more Lego than Airfix and when Lego's patent ran out recently, Airfix clearly saw an opportunity for a construction kit for younger, budding model builders. So, this is something that falls somewhere between a real model and a toy. Whereas a "proper" Airfix kit will require glue, paint, a fair bit of time and no little skill, the "Quick Build" line is constructed very much along the line of Lego kit. You get about 30 parts, some stickers and a nicely visual instruction sheet and a stand and the whole thing simply clips together in a few minutes to produce something that looks ratherlike a Harrier jump-jet.This particular kit isn't quite as good as some of the other Quick Builds. The fit of the parts ain't great and some force was required to get some oif the bits to mate properly - also, the wings in particular were a little unsatisfactory. The instruction sheet was also a tad off and I'm pretty sure that the recommended order of construction for the fuselage parts was wrong - I would suggest using the instructions as a guide and following your instincts. On the other hand, once constructed, it looks pretty good and there is a surprising amount of surface detail. All in all, although it is let down a bit by the overall quality, this is a nice looking kit and good enough to serve as a toy, an introduction for the young up-and-coming modeller or a quirky desk ornament for a grown-up aircraft enthusiast.

I'm a big fan of these "Quick Build" Airfix kits, so I was very pleased to see the range extended with some new model kits. The Harrier is a visually appealing plane, so is a great choice for a kit.Assembly is straighforward, with a few minor fiddly bits to sort out. The sticker representing the front fan was a little tricky to align perfectly, but is almost completely hidden when on display, so it's not an issue is you get it wrong. The wings don't seem to fit together quite as nicely as they might, and this bothered me for a while as there's a slight gap on the underside of each wing. However it really isn't an issue when on display. When built, the detailing is very good and it makes for a very pleasing little ornament if you're so inclined. Build time is around 15 minutes with the clear instructions and the slightly fiddly adhesive markings, though they are much better than the first generation kits. I'm old enough to remember the decals you had to soak in water to slide into place. They were lovely but oh so fragile. These stickerswork well, but may require a little adult help. It's a handsome model, but people tend to overlook it and admire the Lamborghini next to it on my shelf, so if you're only going to buy one of these kits, I'd say that's the one to go for. But if you like the look of this Harrier, it's a pleasure to build and own.

Airfix meets lego.I remember spending hours as a lad building Airfix kits, glue in one hand, bits of plastic in the other, transforming the bits of plastic into a plane, boat, tank there was so much choice, I loved it.I found one of the new glue together ones in a model shop a while ago (can’t remember what plane it was) and thought what a great thing for me and my 10 year old lad to build, may be it was because there wasn’t these fantastic toys around that my lad has today, there wasn’t much when I was a lad, but we both hated the modern Airfix kit, glue every where, badly written instructions, tiny bits that wouldn’t come away from the large plastic holder, didn’t even finish it.Never purchased one again.Forward to todays Airfix Quick build harrier, no glue (got to be good), easy to assemble (again got to be good), 28 pieces didn’t sound bad either.Well this is great, what a great thing to build, it looks superb, holds together better than the Lego I step on daily, it looks fantastic with the stickers, my lad loved building it, I had to stop myself from taking over. Its that good I’ve ordered a couple more for Christmas stocking fillers, If he doesn’t want to build them and would rather be playing Skylanders or something I know a dad that will want to build them.Great fun for Dad’s everywhere

Airfix have done it again! The always popular Harrier is given the Quickbuild treatment by Airfix and it builds up into a surprisingly accurate model.it is fairly straightforward to build but I would advise that you follow the instructions because they have been careful to make it a little challenging for the builder. It is aimed at children from the ages of 5 years upwards but the plans are entirely pictorial and an adult may be needed to help at times with a young one.Like the other quick build kits this one can be taken apart and re-built any number of times. The size of the completed model is about eight inches long and so ideal for the youngsters to play with once built.Very sturdy model itis too!I would thoroughly recommend this kit to all children - and adults like me who want to have a bit of harmless fun!It is also very nice to see a new product that is both DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED IN THE U.K..GREAT FUN.No glue or waterslide decals needed;stickers provided for RAF Harrier.(Would have liked a choice of stickers here though).VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The Airfix Quick Build range of model kits are an excellent alternative to traditional model kits as there's no mess when building them - no need for glue or paints, even the decals are self adhesive rather than the water activated type. These kits mix traditional model making with lego style building creating a unique product. The Quick Build series is limited at present but does include all-time favourites such as the Spitfire and Messerschmitt 109.Despite appearances, building the Harrier Aiircraft model was not too easy and was enough of a challenge to make it interesting with a good end result. Based on this I feel that these models are a great introduction to the hobby for young people and will make some good stocking fillers for my grandson this Christmas. The reason that I am only giving a four star rating is purely because the choice of kits is very limited at present.

My 5 year-old son and I had a great time building this Harrier and have enjoyed flying it around the house too. I was impressed by how age appropriate the model is. They really hit their target nicely. The pieces are a good size for 5 year-old fingers (nothing too small), the directions are all in pictures (easy for kids to follow), and it doesn't take long to assemble (taking their limited attention span into account). My only complaint, and it is admittedly a small one, is that some of the pieces take a little more force to snap together than my son could generate on his own. I would love to see this model made so that he could put it together by himself. Not that I didn't enjoy building it with him,but I know he would appreciate the accomplishment of completing it without help.

This is a 28 piece, 10 sticker Lego … oops … Airfix model kit.It produces a very nice desk model of the great Harrier Jump Jet.Construction is very easy (as it says “no glue, no paint”) you simply click the bricks together, apply the stickers and attach to the supplied stand. As an AFoL (adult fan of Lego) and a former Airfix junkie I found this to be a great item – it was very easy for the youngest family member to build and, after I explained what Airfix kits used to be, it has sparked an interest in Airfix for the older family members. This makes a great introduction to both Lego and to Airfix. I expect more of these to be on Santa’s “you’ll be lucky” list.

Very good model for the price I paid. Bought for my 5 year old for us to assemble together and for him to play with. I wasn't expecting much as the reviews were mixed and it was cheap, however he found it easier to put together than the similar Revell model we had a few days earlier and it was just as much fun. It's stood up to being played with well, but obviously you should realise that bits may fall off with rough play and need to be reattached. Glue it together if that bothers you!Writing this review I've noticed that the price has TRIPLED to £12.47. I really couldn't recommend it at that price, that's too expensive for what it is.

Basically, its like shaped Lego that fits together to make a more accurate looking finished product than the blocky look of actual Lego. The parts do fit together well but on occasion one needs some extra pressure to mate all surfaces. Mine was a warehouse deal so the supplied stickers that would have been in the box were missing. the markings are provided in sticker form as mentioned. Its display in flight only so a nice chunky stand is supplied. The scale is probably around 1:72 which for this Harrier is a pretty good size without being cumbersome for a display shelf.

My son (and husband!) were delighted when this arrived and opened straight away. They really enjoyed making this and found it relatively straightforward. Although they did say the instructions were a bit difficult to understand. They loved the fact that no glue or other adhesive was needed. This was the first kit my son has made - needless to say I do not think it will be the last - he loved it! I know what to buy for Christmas now.A classic toy that continues to engage and entertain.

Definitely falls under the "quick build" heading. No need for glue or paint with this kit. Reminds me of the Lego kits I had as a child. A little under 30 minutes had this completed between a 9 year old and an adult. The instructions aren't the best I have read but still manageable by the 9 year old. Seems to be quite a sturdy model once put together. Placing the stickers was a little fiddly but we got there in the end.

Great step on the model making ladder. A bit like super detailed lego in its method of assembly. The instructions are easy to follow with enough steps to be satisfying, but not so many that a seven year old gets bored. The resulting model is also quite strong so a child can actually play with it, but at the same time because no glue is required the kit can be taken it apart again.

I really loved Airfix models as a child but the glue could be quite overpowering. This modern twist is more akin to lego, so no smelly glue. There are a number of parts (20+) to fit together, along with the obligatory stickers for decoration. The instructions are easy to follow and kept my young nephews suitably amused for some time. The finished product looks great.

I bought this for my 5 year old. He loves it! It’s the third different plane he has now for his collection. Easy to assemble (for dads!). My son loves using in bath and round the house. The Lego can come loose a bit so always check make sure their squeezed tight again but he is quite hard on them. Their well made and I will be buying more for him!

Bought this for my dad who has Alzhimer's as a little project for us to do, as a marine and pilot in his past he recognised the plane and was excited to build. Easy construction (with my help) and and good finished project! He's looking forward to building the Helecopter next!
