I've built this kit many times and have fond memories of it even though, to a purist, it's not very good. Specifically, the turret's too low and its diameter too small, the gun's possibly too short, the "rubber band" tracks are a pain to fit, the detail is a bit soft and it's not clear what sort of Sherman it is. Even Airfix aren't sure, having billed this kit originally as an M4 Mark 1 (which I think is correct) and now as an M4A2.Sherman typology is complex, but broadly, an M4 is a Mark 1, an M4A1 was a Mark 2 and an M4A2 would be a Mark 3. M4A2s had a loader's hatch in the turret top and two angled hatches on the top deck in front of the turret; Airfix's Sherman has no loader's hatch and the driver and hull gunner's hatches are aligned fore and aft and are let into the glacis plate,so it can't be an A2. The other candidate Sherman mark that it resembles, the M4A4 (Mark V), is unlikely because although the hatches match correctly, the M4A4 had a different engine and hence a longer rear hull than this making it longer overall. The Revell Sherman Firefly, for comparison, is a Mark V and has the correct longer hull. So I reckon it's a Mk 1, a useful variant which saw service from 1942 to 1945 in the desert, Tunisia, Italy, north-west Europe and Russia. What one can say, though, is that this kit goes together well, looks like some sort of Sherman, and is very reasonably priced. There are better Shermans around in approximately this scale, such as the

Its a nice kit, but will need patience as it's quite an old tooling. It has 55 pieces and measures 75mm long and 33mm wide. You can make an American or British version of the tank. You will need Humbrol 33 (Black), 53 (Gun Metal), 86 (Light Olive) and 113 (Rust) to complete the kit. You get one Airfix 'Flying Hours' token with it.Overall, its a great little kit for the money.

My 8 year old son has just discovered Airfix and loves it. This tank was great but a little small and fiddly for small hands, so my advice would be to buy a larger model for younger children. However Airfix rocks!

These are TINY! It does state the scale on the pack so it’s my fault for not realising. The result being that it’s super fiddly & we could get it quite right (but still looks good).
