This is a re-release of the 30 year-old Airfix kit which still builds up to a very impressive and large model, the old Airfix Saturn V suffered from some dimensional innacuracies - the Command and service modules at the top of the S-IVB stage were too narrow, giveing the rocket a very odd and narrow appearance in its upper sections. Thankfully the 40th Anniversary release corrects this flaw with a new sprue section containing the revised parts. The command module however is still the original so If you wish to remove the escape tower and boost protective cover at the top you'll be dissapointed to see the vastly undersized Command Module underneath, its small issue though. That aside the rest of the rocket still looks as good as it did all those years ago, each of the stages twists and locks bayonet-style into each other so the assembled rocket fits together very securely, naturally some detail is compromised because of this and also around the engine assemblies where in reality you'd see an endless network of piping and wiring but there's plenty of scope to add this if you feel your skills are up to the task.Get one, build it, and display it - the Saturn V still reigns as the most powerful, complex, and successful machines ever built by man, and it looks great on your desk !

I first made this particular kit in the late 1960's, my abilities were 'weaker' then but the kit was 'crisp' as the materials used at that time were a 'better/higher' quality all round! Today I am far more accomplished (being in my 60's) but 'Airfix' has 'dropped the ball' somewhat! I would describe the materials used today as 'adequate to good' rather than the 'really good' of yesteryear. If you are wanting to re live your childhood memories like me and re build all the kits again there are two options:- pay a lot of money for exactly what you had before by purchasing 'vintage' kits or pay 'less' for the modern equivalent but you may be 'disappointed' sometimes with the results of your endeavors, however for £30 plus postage this particular kit represents excellent value for money and if you want one it is well worth snapping one up at this price rather than paying way over the odds (in this case) for a vintage example.Read full review...

Really enjoyed building this airfix Appllo 11 kit, took me back to my childhood! The instructions were mostly well laid out, some of the part numbers were a bit difficult to see but apart from that well made. Best tip is to dry fit parts to test before gluing and if necessary use an emery board to lightly sand down any rough areas from the moulding process.I'm may paint it at a later stage but it looks fine with the supplied decals and a bonus is all the rocket stages separate. Might have the model bug now, oh well out to the garden hut for me then!

Don't class this as a toy, but great memories of building this model at 14 years old, avidly following the Apollo program. The only bit that lets the model down, as did all those years back, is the strange way they modelled the Command Module with that odd cover which attaches the Escape Rocket, dont know why it was made this way with the inner part covered by the proper to scale our part, other than that great to have the model again, sitting on my mantle piece in the living room!

If you are interested in the Moon landings and the 'Space Race' you'll like this kit. It's not cheap, and is showing its age a bit now, but as long as you don't look too closely the finished model looks very impressive. The separate stages are removable, so the model can be used to explain how the real rocket was used. If, like me, you watch the mighty Saturn V launches with awe, then treat yourself to this kit - it really does look good standing ready for launch next to my TV !

I bought this as a christmas present for my 57 year old dad who loves everything todo with space. And he loved it. it looks great when its finished, the only fault is that it doesnt come with paint or glue so u have to spend another £20 on them, other than that its brilliant.

This kit is one of AIrfix's triumphs. As others have said, the original was one of the great machines and engineering triumphs of the 20th century and to be able to build a scale model of this is a real pleasure - and a (good) challenge.

I purchased this for my husband for his birthday as he's keen on air fix and also anything to do with space and moon landings. It's a great kit although it's a lot bigger than expected

I bought this as a christmas present for my dad. He absolutely loves it! Good quality model, as I have seen one completed. Only thing is that it does not contain the paints needed.

No paints or glue included? £70....a lot of money for a flimsy plastic model. However, my son was over the moon with it.

Nice product but awful service from Humbrol....I contacted them about replacement decals and didn't even get a reply !
