For tasks such as drawing and note-taking, the iPad's finger-painting input method isn't sufficient. However as the iPad doesn't have any native support for styluses, manufacturers have had to come up with clever gadgets that pretend to be a finger, often by having a little wad of conductive material at the end. Adonit's "Jot" stylus series takes the novel approach of putting a little conductive puck on the end of the pen, embedded in a plastic disk to keep it flat against the screen. That greatly reduces the size of the pen tip and makes it clearer where the pen-point is, which is a bit more like writing with an actual pen on the screen. The effect isn't perfect but it works, and it makes for a nice compromise between the precision of "smart" styluses and the simplicity of basic styluses. The feel of the stylus on the screen doesn't take a whole lot of getting used to. It's slick, given that you're pushing plastic over glass, but in a way that's reminiscent of a gel-ink pen on good paper. (If that's not a texture you particularly enjoy, you'll probably be better served by a squashy-tipped stylus.) Provided you use a reasonable pressure, the tip registers consistently. It's accurate down to about the size of the little opaque puck in the tip, which makes drawing diagrams and sketching much more natural, and removes the anxiety and second-guessing that goes into figuring out exactly where the mark it going to be placed by a fat-tipped stylus. It's surprisingly easy to forget about the mechanics of the little ball joint mechanism at the end of the stylus and just treat it like a pen. However if you use a light touch, you might feel the edge of the disk touch the screen and not get a response, because the disk hasn't pressed flat against the screen. Similarly if you tend to spin the pin around in your hand, it's possible to get the disk touching the screen edge-on, which is useless until you spin the pen back around and get it in contact. However most of the time the illusion holds. You can probably get close to this degree of functionality - but not the "fine-tip" pen feel - with a basic stylus, so much of the money you spend on the Jot is really going into the quality of the manufacturing and design. You certainly get what you pay for. It's a really nicely balanced bit of precision-machined metal with a durable medium-grey matte finish which is not as shiny as in some of the product photos. It feels great in the hand and in this "Mini" size is quite an appealing gadget to fidget with even when you're not using it. Although it's "mini", it's a comfortable diameter, and the screw-on cap fits nicely onto the back of the pen to give it a good length. As a reassuring necessity, there's a rubber "O" ring at the business end that holds the cap in place snugly when the stylus is closed, so it can't wander off and leave the vulnerable plastic tip exposed. I'm not so sure about the design of the clip though - it means there's nothing in the way when you're handling the stylus, but it's a bit too deep for my liking.Much as I like my Jot, I'm not sure I would've gone out and bought one for myself. For half the price, you can get a very good quality squash-tipped stylus which does much the same job, less accurately. Conversely if I was going to invest in a really good-quality stylus for artwork and note-taking, Bluetooth-connected styluses start at about twice the price, and definitely give more than twice the functionality. However if you're angling for more precision without all the fuss of a connected stylus, the Jot is about the only option going, and it delivers what it promises.

Well it made my day a bit easier anyway.Suffering with OA in fingers and this has helped me when doing online banking as can put the tip on the box without any problems. Easier than fingers yesterday. Only problem is though that the top is a bit hard to get off, if like myself you have OA in fingers or hands. As a tight screw on one, and with item being mini sized nothing to grab hold of so to speak. The pen does have a screw thread on the top of it so that the lid can be secured and not lost. Well at the cost you would not want to loose it, as it does seem rather expensive for what it is. It looks stylish and expensive as it is just that.A clip on is built into it for putting on pocket etc or for clipping into bag like I have on inside pocket. But do not think I would be using it when out though as having to take lid off etc a bit of a faff and would not like to leave it just in my bag without lid as pretty sure the tip would get damaged.Son however thinks it great for using on his DS for the drawing games he has on it and thinks it cool. Also good for doing puzzles with on iPad a lot easier than using fingers and maybe touching wrong items or letters, so yes think I will get a lot of use out of this inside the home on iPad, games and that.Bit funny at first as it feels like a pen but with something stuck to the bottom of it and almost want to remove it. Sizewise almost like an electronic cigarette but quite light.Son already used it when on hang outs with friends on his phone as soon as I got it. So think I know who will be using it more. He already uses various stylus pens as hates touching his phone screen, so for him to really like it is good, but he also thinks it good but price a little too much.

I am used to using a stylus which is about the same size as a pen and which has a soft mesh tip. Personally I find a stylus a lot more precise than my fat fingers in operating a touch screen so it has become more or less an essential accessory. This stylus is, however, rather different. Instead of the soft tip it has a small circular disc which presumably distributes the load over that area rather that at the point to avoid damage. In use it feels rather more positive than the more normal stylus although it does take a little getting used to. However, after a little while using it, it quickly became my preferred stylus. It feels a bit like jabbing the screen with a ball point pen which is somewhat easier than jabbing with a soft pad.Size wise it is a lot smaller than a pen and has a slot to fix it to the top of your jacket pocket. There is a protective cap which screws over the business end of the stylus. I was not sure I was going to get on with this stylus on first viewing but I ended up liking it a lot.As a postscript, something I have subsequently learned is that the precision tips deteriorate with time, and you can get spares. They also can detach and go missing so its always a good idea to put the protective cap back on when not in use.

Up to now I have always used a mega cheap "Stylus" for use on Ipad or phone. This Adonit Fine Point Stylus is very much a step up - being well made and feels like a good quality pen. Comes well packed. At first the odd shape of the actual stylus point surprised me but the shape does work well... it is a round plastic stylus end that is so much more accurate to use than the cheaper syylus I have been using up to know certainly for drawing programmes. The whole stylus itself is fairly small but I am pleased to say not too small.. stores away easy in bag or top pocket. Yet, as I have said has a well made feel, that fits fill in the hand when in use.My only little issue is that the plastic end to the stylus has fell off a couple of times. It is easy to refix...but I am a bit concerned that in time it will fall off and get lost.I will certainly use this stylus for Ipad and phone.Very pleased.

I have tried several of these stylus pens and can honestly say that this is something else. The round plastic bit on the end makes the stylus so much easier and more accurate to use. The stylus itself is quite small, perfect for pocket of bag and is robust enough to feel comfortable in the hand. Using on both my iPhone and iPad I found this stylus to be far better than anything I have used before, not just because the thought of using a fine point might damage the screen, but because, after a while it begins to feel far easier to use that just using a finger. No more hitting the wrong letters or numbers or whatever you need to get right, this stylus will quickly become normal to use every day.

I love this. It is exactly what I needed and arrived swiftly and packaged well. As many of the reviews state, this pen is on the small side, however I don't think this is a bad thing at all. It fits nicely in my hand for writing and once used to it feels like writing with pen and paper. The other things mentioned in reviews is the small clear disc on the tip of the stylus. Though this is slightly off putting to begin with, I quickly got used to it being there and soon forgot all about it.This stylus actually enables me to write as I would normally, unlike the stumpy sponge tip stylus' on the market. Would recommend this to anyone who uses an ipad for writing or drawing on a regular basis.

Compact, this is different from other styluses I have used in the past, mainly due to the small soft plastic disc on the tip of it.It has a higher level of accuracy than others I have used too. It is quite pricey at £14.99 The stylus is of metal construction, with a screw cap lid. I tested it on my android phone as well as a tablet with no problems and much more accurate than my finger :D The lid has a clip so it is easy to fit in a shirt pocket or whatever. I have protective screens on all of my electronics and although you hardly have to apply any pressure at all when using this, because of the unusual tip it would be better to use it on a covered screen.

This is a beautiful thing to hold and use, it oozes class. It is made of solid metal; there is a screw-on cap to protect the stylus, this has a small rubber ring so it won't come off accidentally; the cap screws on to the other end when it is in use. It comes with a hard plastic tray to store it when not in use, I would have liked a hole in the tray to store it vertically. Also a hole to attach a cord would be good as this is quite an expensive item. The small plastic disk seems a little vulnerable, replacements are available from Adonit, at a price. In use it is a joy to use, it just feels right in the hand. Ideal for a painting program. Good but pricey.

This stylus is sleek, sturdy and responsive. The "nib" has this weird plastic disc thing on it, (which at first glance could even be mistaken for a protective cover) but it actually makes for a very responsive and accurate interface experience. The top unscrews and then screws onto the top of the stylus whilst in use, which means it is unlikely to fall off or get lost.If I had one criticism it would be the overall length of the stylus; it is just a little on the short side for my liking but to be fair, this IS sold as a "mini" stylus, so perhaps I'm nit-picking, but personally I would go for the full size variant.

Great product, was in great condition when it arrived. It came with a screw-on lid and the plastic disc was intact and in good condition considering its a used item. Would recommend for jotting notes on capacitive touch screens but not drawing, drawing could risk you breaking the item. I haven't put it down since receiving it ?. Sadly there's no spare disc, container or anything of the sort, it just came as it is.

Bought this to use on my Lenovo 2 Yoga 10 inch tablet. Its great and is invaluable for small icons on the tablet. My wife was so impressed she got one for her Asus 8 inch tablet. One main advantage is the fact that the tip cover screws off the tip and screws on the other end for storage while you use it.Why hasn't someone used this on pens, as we all manage to loose the covers on them

Excellent stylus. I am using it for my iPad and Lenovo 3 14". Certainly less bulky and awkward than some of the other ones out there for the iPad with that half centimetre diameter foamy bit on the end that you have to whack your screen with to get a response. Great stylish and professional design.

This is a great stylus that I use for taking college notes on my iPad Air 2. Very small, and the aluminium construction is very nice. I dropped it, and the result was that the nib bent and the disc broke. However, after buying another disc, and bending the nib back it was back to being perfect!

Works really well. The plastic bit on tip of pen does come off sometimes but can be snapped Back on. You have to be careful not to loose it though as its really small and see through so if it does come off it can be hard to find.

20.10.2015

It works well, but if you have largish hands, buy the full size one not the mini.It drops one star because the clip that supposedly holds it to things is not flexible and I can't actually find anything to clip it to.Alan
