I've had a heavy duty Oxford bike chain with mini 'D-Lock' style lock for a while now and if i'm on long journeys it goes in my ruck sack. However, for short journeys where I don't want to lug it round(It weighs a couple of kilo's) I was looking for something a bit more portable that still gives me a feeling of security and after shopping around this is what I went with. The whole thing is encased in rubber so you can wrap it around your frame without damaging the paint work. The cable itslef is a bit of a strange beast, I've not removed the covering to have a good look but it feels less like a cable and more like a chain as the way it wraps suggests it's made up of segments rather than onelong length. It is quite heavy which is always reasurring but is easy to transport and I wrap mine around the headset of the bike quite comfortably.I never felt safe leaving my bike with my old cable lock so always ended up humping the heavy duty Oxford with me but with this i'm quite happy to lock it up.Of course, the key to bike security is locking it up in a nice public place and no lock is infallible but outside of a D-Lock this is the best i've found.

This replaces the same (but slightly shorter version) I have used for several years. I find D locks a bit cumbersome to fit on my bike, and too heavy in my back pack. The pre-coiled locks are dreadful to use - they look neat but really difficult to uncoil. This is something of a hybrid. It fits well to the bike, and does not suffer the pre-colied problem. It pulls straight when you unlock it, and coils back up in its double loop.No lock is 100% thief proof. This is level 8/10 and is better than weak coil locks but probably not as good as a proper D lock.I've not had a cutting attempt on the old lock, or this new one, but cheap coil locks have been cut through on my bike.

I can't recommend this lock enough. Just bought this lock as an exact replacement for my husband as someone tried to steal his bike by tampering with the lock. They were unsuccessful. Unfortunately it cost £120 for a locksmith to grind the lock off as the unsuccessfull thief damaged the lock so we could no longer get the key in, but the lock has done its job and stopped the bike from being stolen so we're very pleased with it.

This isn't going to stop someone stealing your bike if they really want it, but it will secure it away from the opportunist. Its SoldSecure Bronze (at time of writing) and so an acceptable lock for some insurance companies for lower priced bikes (of course, you need to check with your insurance company as to their exact rules). Seems well made as expected for Abus, nice sold lock and clunk when securing.

Nice light, flexible lock. I knew that this is not the most heavy duty protection for my cycle (from other reviews and youtube videos), but I wanted to purchase this easy to use, but relatively safe lock for small locking periods eg. going for grocery shopping etc. The actual cable part of the lock seems more solid then the lock-base.I would recommend, value for money!

Heavy weight robust lock which makes you feel your bike is secure! The cable is very flexible and well protected in a robust plastic coat; I brought the shorter version at 85cm and this is ample to go around frame and back wheel of my mountain bike and then a reasonable wide fixed object. It isn't the lightest of locks but the good ones generally aren't. Would recommend

Nice flexible lock, not too heavy to carry around and seems reasonable secure. I am sure it would not deter a professional thief, but as a compromise between weight/bulk and robustness it seems fairly good. Frame mount fits well in the frame but the mount isn't very secure, being held by something just resembling a plastic tie wrap; could be better

Does what it says on the tin. Solid, reliable and perfect, at a decent price, for those things you don't want pinched by the casual amateur. Sure if you have a bike/motorbike of more than average value you'll want to shell out on something more, but for most things this will do the job.

Perfect to slip into backpack or stow on bicycle. I chose shorter length for very occasional use en route to/from work, e.g. quickly nip into shop with bike nearby. I prefer sturdier Abus lock for longer parking, but this is great as a deterrent when I'm close by.

Does what it says on the tin. Although the locking mechanism on my last one stopped working hence buying this. Also the extra length on this one makes it easy to lock my bike to trees, lamp posts etc if necessary.

very flexible and flexible, better than my old castle! I use it as a second lock to ABUS Bordo. Great that it is longer, so you can connect the bike on the tree or lamppost. I would buy it again.

I had the lock before and think it's great because it's very flexible and easy. So you can connect the bike with lampposts and so on. Mei friend wanted to have it, so I ordered it again.

Very flexible so curls up quite small for easy storage. Rubber coated to protect your paintwork and keep out the weather this lock does what it's intended for and I would recommend it.

Only four stars as this is as secure a relatively lightweight cable lock gets, I feel very safe using this in conjunction with a wheel lock

Good strong lock, quite heavy but OK to wear round the neck on short journeys. Good length and flexible enough to fit round most things.
