I already own a Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 Standard Lock with EZMount Bracket, but the standard advice is to use two different locks (apparently thieves tend to carry tools for just one specific type of lock). The Abus chain lock is pretty tough and is (obviously) more flexible than a D-lock, so is useful by itself when the item I want to attach the bike to is too big for the D-lock. It's also easy to carry on a bike - just double-wrap the chain around the seat post.I was hoping it might lock itself automatically when inserting the two chain lock pieces together, but in fact you need the key both for unlocking and locking - it's not a big deal anyway.

After having two bikes stolen or destroyed in the attempt whilst secured with a quality U-Lock + Cable I was offered this model lock in an insurance replacement deal. It's pretty heavy but if you wrap it round the top frame tube whilst cycling you don't really notice it. Very solid construction, lock mechanism works smoothly enough (squirt of Teflon WD-40 helps). I use it in conjunction with a U-Lock and in 2 years have managed to hold on to my bike whilst leaving it overnight in Hackney on a number of occasions. Pretty good going. Just remember to attach it to something solid. So pleased with mine that I bought this one for my wife's new bike.

Excellent chain. Really would need an angle grinder to cut it. However, the length limits what you can put it around, so while it might be impossible to cut through, the small bars you are forced to lock the bike to, in order to secure at least one wheel, are probably not as much of a challenge to the budding thief.

I swear by Abus locks! They make the most secure products out there! I use this lock on my high quality city road bike. It is not long enough for me to secure both wheels and frame to a post, so I just secure the rear wheel and frame to a post and use a U-Lock to secure the front wheel and frame to a post.

Definitely feel like my £650 bike is totally safe, any time of day, even overnight.I wear this around my (pretty slim) waist, which is super convenient. That's why I chose the 85cm.This is borderline a motorbike chain; super heavy - probably half the weight of my modern racing bike if not more.

Very good lock, but like most people, having trouble opening and shutting the thing.I've just put some good oil into it, so hoping that does the trick.Be careful in locking it.You don't want to have to break into this in the middle of town yourself. Haha....

This chain is heavyweight. I leave it in the courtyard at work where I lock the bike up (a Tern folding bike), rather than cycle around with it. At 110cm, I can easily get through the frame , one wheel and around an immovable object. Safe as houses.

Brought this back in Nov 2012 worked a treat until the key broke in the lock now I've got to cut the chain with a grinder so be careful when unlocking this chain as the key may brake inside the lock apart from that I would recommend this

This has been wonderful protection for my ebike. It is heavy, but I love not having to worry about my bike going missing. There is a little trick with the key, but once you figure it out it’s perfect.

Great buy! Sturdy enough for brief stops, just the right weight and length to carry wrapped around seat post, long enough to go through fat ebike front wheel, tube and around a tree trunk or pole.

The castle looks daunting from afar. That alone keeps thieves away. The keys also close cleanly. It fulfills its purpose even if it weighs around 3 kilos T

Heavy but strong lock. Gold standard means it qualifies for bike insurance for more expensive bikes.
