I had long been interested in the Abus Bordo range of locks, having had bad experiences of D-lock mounting brackets and not wanting to carry (or wear) the lock on my person while riding. No other lock seemed to offer the same compactness as these and I wanted something that would just keep out of the way. My only concern was with the smaller models and not being overly convinced by how solid they look. So eventually I bit the bullet and splashed out for the X-Plus - the daddy of the range. While this is admittedly a very heavy lock, that is also what makes it a bit more reassuring. The included pouch comes with velco straps to attach it with,or you could use the universal fitment holes to bolt it directly to your frame for a snug and solid fit thats not going anywhere. I have mine attached to the upright and I am completely unaware of its presence (or weight) while riding. The six connected pieces are heavy duty and are joint end to end so they behave like a chain. They are also thin enough that you could pass the end one through the gaps in your helmet while locking up the bike if you'd prefer not to carry it.The Granit X-Plus comes with two keys, one of which has a built in light, and a code card in case you ever need a replacement key from ABUS.If you value your bike or would just like to ensure that you have a ride home, and you would much prefer a compact non-intrusive lock while riding, I couldn't recommend this highly enough. It is pricey - I picked up mine on Amazon for about £67 at the time - but it just ticks all the boxes. This one is the highest rated lock in the Bordo range and has a Sold Secure Gold rating. Particularly useful if you wish to insure your bike.Having spent months trying to find a lock that strikes a balance between security and an ideal design for carrying, the Bordo Granit X-Plus offers both without compromising on either.

Time will tell if this lock keeps my bike safe. However, I researched this lock and it was one of the best for surviving fast and aggressive theft attacks. Just search for a youtube video. Not the lightest option, but you do not feel it (when fitted to the bike), like you would if you were carrying a lock in a bag etc. Very sturdy and no thief is going to be able to cut this in a few seconds with a cable / chain cutter (in real world conditions) like most D-locks, chains and cable locks. It is very convenient and it folds up on itself in seconds. Why I gave this 4 stars and not 5. Locking and unlocking can be fiddly. However, this is also most likely a safety bonus, in that the lock is recessed. You get used to it and I suppose this would also help prevent access to the lock for picking. The bigger issue for me, is that it could have been a bit longer, as I can usually only really use this lock around the main bar of the bike in most real world situations and find it not long enough, to fit around the main bar of the bike and a wheel etc. However, the main reason for this lock, is to keep your entire bike safe from more determined thieves. I have a lesser / lighter / cheaper option for the wheels (depending on where the bike is left), as accessory / parts theft is mostly opportunist and so good enough for that.I would get 5 stars if it was longer.

My bike has never been stolen... does that mean it's a good lock or just good luck? The actual lock, as in lock and key works very smoothly. The lock itself is heavy and sometimes it's tough to lock rear wheel, frame and lamp post together but it usually fits. Bit more tricky than a more flexible lock but then that is expected. It is rubberised so shouldn't hurt your frame and most definitely better than the standard U-locks (is that what they are called?). The carry case come in handy and one either permanently attach it to the frame (screws in like a bottle holder) or just use the velcro. I use the velcro and it has not failed me thus far.All in all a neat, sturdy, secure lock.Just very pricey.

+ It's certainly compact for its weight and because it fits snug to the bike's frame it never feels unstable when travelling.+ Attaching the holder to the bike's bosses is easy.+ Most of the time when the lock is in use the protective rubberized coating protects the paintwork from being scratched, though sometimes you need to be careful how you position it against the frame. The way I see it is that this lock is more versatile than a u-lock and easier to travel with than a chain.Like other locks in the Abus range it can be keyed-alike but when I investigated this I found it likely that I would have to pay full retail plus plus for that service, so cheaper to carry 2 keys.

It's an awesome lock, and hard for thieves to defeat. Bike thieves normally come equipped to deal with one of two types of lock. They have a jack to defeat D-locks (so don't leave any space if you leave a d-lock to get a jack in) or snips to cut a chain/cord type lock. This is a pain for them (yay) as it's neither.Lets be clear, if they come with a petrol disk cutter, your biks is going as even the £500 d-locks only last 5010 minutes against one.But assuming you've left the bike somewhere that a petrol power tool would be noticed, this is a great lock. Yes it's as heavy as some d-locks, but is easier to store on the bike where you can use it.

Very pleased with my purchase! I have previously been using a high security rated D Lock which was okay, but my god it rattled and caused a lot of noise! This ABUS folding lock comes with an excellent frame mount, which fits very well to my bike and doesn't have any movement in it. ( I replaced the included velcro straps with tidy cable ties).Although the total area inside the lock isn't much more than my previous D Lock, the ability to alter the shape of it means I'm now able to lock the frame of bike to the bottom of a standard UK lamppost.Although pricier than some locks, I'd highly recommend it :)

I can't comment on how tough it is since I haven't seen any evidence anyone has tried breaking it, but it is a serious bit of kit and just holding it/feeling it it's no surprise it's a gold standard lock. This bad boy weights a ton and feels like a really solid piece of kit. I also like the fact it comes with a holder to attach on your bike but since it weighs so much I've resorted to leaving it locked at the train station instead of carting it around. I feel confident this provides a very good level of protection.

Really great lock. After doing my research, this looked to be one if not the best, folding lock available. Very well made as you would expect from Abus. It's obviously reasonably heavy, but this comes with strength. It's gold sold secure rated. It's can be attached to the frame using either the supplied straps or the drink bottle cage mount. Overall, very happy and I can't complain.

I bought this after seeing terrific reviews for it on various online sites. This is the 'business' if you are looking for the best protection from theft for your bike. Be warned, it's heavy, but it comes with a robust carry case that can be fitted securely to your bike so it doesn't move about or rattle. I'm feel confident to leave my bike securely anchored with this lock.

The lock is pretty much all the peace of mind you'll need to be reassured your bike is safe when locked.Although it's heavy, it's very compact and fits nicely to my road bike on those days when I'm just on a short ride to town.Colour option suited my bike colour scheme, too, and bike insurance is straightforward once you present this as your lock. Highly recommended.

Finally found a Sold Secure lock that I can attach to my mountain bike. This is a proper heavyweight lock if you what to remove this you will need a Stihl Saw,obviously the design means it can be fiddly to fit but it folds up into a big Mad Max style case which can be screwed or Velcro to your bike.Don,t complain about the price,if you value your £8000 S-Works⁉️

This is one heavy lock it appears to be very well made it comes with its own carry case which can be attached to the frame with velcro straps or fitted to the bottle holes in the frame. I think it will act as deterrent to any would be thief. The weight of the lock is offset by the security it provides. This lock is highly recommended to give you piece of mind.

Little metal exposure and rubber covering. Keyhole positioned in a side, inner position so more difficult for thieves to wedge lock open.Lock folds very easily to store in case. Case easily attaches to bike.Only issue is 85cm short length means difficult to lock bike in some cases. But I used this lock AND a D-lock together.Good so far.

This is a brick, it weighs a ton and doubles up as a self defense weapon. It's very solid and looks the part. I got it for an electric bike so the weight was less of an issue, I would not use it on a normal bike. You can find videos of it being broken but I guess villains may look for something easier.

I wanted a gold standard lock for my bike, and I found this to be the ideal solution. Unlike the 'D-lock' it's bigger and a lot more flexible to go around a lot more objects, plus the carrier pouch that straps onto the bike frame makes light work of carrying around a heavy duty lock.
