One would expect any single malt whisky to be "good", but would this Aberlour be outstanding? The evening it arrived I arranged a comparative test, with a standard blended whisky (Bells 40%), another (cheaper and 43%) single malt, and the Aberlour (40%).First of all, the Aberlour looked different - it was distinctly darker, and maybe that is due to the use of sherry barrels in the ageing. It has a pleasant, powerful aroma. Now to sip it neat. Neat Bells is harsh, and you instinctively want it with water. The other single malt was much better, but the Aberlour was by far the smoothest. You really can enjoy sipping it neat. It has a powerful flavour without the smoky, peaty taste that some single malts give you,so it should survive a little water if that's your preference. I thought it was slightly sweet, and the aftertaste was lasting and warming. A lovely after-dinner drink. I might even try sipping some with Xmas pudding (flamed with the Bells!).Aberlour comes in an antique-looking bottle, with a cork in its thick neck and a large punt, presumably to add to the antique look. The bottle comes in the usual sort of presentation cylinder, and this would be a great present for a whisky lover. En route to me, the lid of the cylinder had come off, allowing the bottle to move about inside the strong outer cardboard box. No harm done, thank goodness, but the lid ought to have been secured.

I've had lots and lots of different Whiskys over the years. Glenlivet gave me the taste for Speyside after enjoying a bottle of their 12 year. I was then recommended to try Aberlour and i took to it straight away. I first brought a bottle of the cask strength Abundah (truly amazing). I then brought the 10 year and 12 year. The 10 year old is slightly softer and has less of a sherry note to it. To me the 10 is a little too soft and doesn't provide the extra complexaty that the 12 or Abundah does. The 12 year and Abundah has got more of a sweet sherry note to them and more of a kick (the nice kind). Aberlour is not a smoky whisky FYIThe 12 year is my favourite go to whisky. Its so good I won't even be buying glenlivet again.I would also highly recommend the cask strength Abundah to everyone.

Gorgeous and affordable single malt. Very drinkable with a taste often described as honeyed....just about sums it up. For me it evokes Autumn....honey, dried fruit, fresh fruit!....the aroma of a fruit store as the autumn mists begin to roll in. A beautiful, complex and evocative whisky from a distillery in the centre of Scotland's finest whisky distilling area. Perfect warming dram for Autumn and Christmas with its emphasis on rich fruit and spice. I never got chocolate from it until recently when I left a poured dram alone for 15 minutes and then took a sip, and there it was, a huge taste sensation of really rich dark chocolate...incredible and really took me by surprise. A really fine dram. The bottle is class, heavy thick glass that feels like a decanter.

One of my favorite whiskeys, not the most expensive and often found on offer but for me its the perfect wee dram especially around xmas time.A really smooth and somewhat sweet single malt.Nice spicy dried fruit, cinnamon with hints of dark chocolate, toffee / caramel undertones and a little bit of vanilla / citrus.Did I mention smooth? With a little water (not much) and a bit of time its a smooth and warm dram with interesting christmassy flavours.Does well being left a while in the glass, experts say one minute for every year in the cask and I have to agree. The 10 and 18 year olds are good also though the 10 feels a little 'raw'and the 18 can be expensive since you can usually buy an A'bunadh for a similar price which is something a bit special.

At the current price (£25) this is well worth a buy. Aberlour 12 is sometimes priced higher, at which point you'll be into Glenfarclas, GlenDronach or Glenmorgangie Lasanta prices, at which point you'll find a higher quality single malt. Or you'd be better of spending the £40 on the cask strength A'bundah from Aberlour. But with a creamy texture and some slightly spicy notes on the finish, Aberlour 12 is a lovely sipping whisky for over the Christmas period. I found a drop or two of cool water also brought out a little more flavour but avoid adding ice! A single ice cube once melted took away all the flavour and left it tasting like some cheap £10 blended scotch.

I bought this one when it was on offer at £25 on the basis that for that money I couldn't go too far wrong and I have to say I was really, really pleasantly surprised. Whisky tasting is very subjective and I won't try and describe the nose or pallet but I will say that this is without doubt one of my current favourites. I drink Glendronnach 15 usually and this, although different is a very acceptable alternative. At £25 its an absolute bargain but even at its full price I wold most certainly buy it again (in fact I already have :) ). For me this has been one of those rare "great finds" when you stumble across something that turns out to be really, really good.

An excellent whisky, even if you ignore the low price, and one I have regularly purchased and enjoyed - until now. Unfortunately, due to Amazon's ID policy, I can no longer buy this or any other alcohol or many other products - eg. kitchen knives. I'm in my late 50s, have a greying beard and balding head yet, as I have no photo ID, the poor delivery girl who showed up this morning had to leave still carrying my tipple.Spoke to a lovely lass on Amazon customer services, but there is no way around this problem so it looks like I'll be shopping elsewhere from now on.

I disagree with the poster who says this isn't as good as the 10. It's a drink to sit down and enjoy. The only reason I've not given it 5 stars is that the A'Bundh version is worth 5 stars as it's just nicer and not much more expensive.Writing this having been out in the cold, and a measure of this 12 year old (well it's about a double measure as it would have been rude to leave so little in the bottle) and all I need now is a log fire and the scene would be perfect. You're not going to be disappointed if you buy this or receive one as a present.

This was picked as an afterthought. But I'm glad I did. Usually I am not a fan of Speyside Malts, I prefer the peaty flavour of an Island malt, but this hits the mark perfectly. Full rich buttery taste with a strong, but not too strong, hint of currants, sherry and oak. The finish is long, but not overly so, of oak, smoke, cherry and raisins. A bit more expensive than the usual, but well worth the extra few quid. A "dram" for the long winter nights, and with its fruity undertones not out of place for the summer and autumn either.

I have had this Aberlour 12 year old loads of times over the years, it is a good sound drinking whisky. I think the flavours are slightly more complex than the 10 year old. But when I am asked by a young girl to prove that I am 65 in order to get my dram then things have gone too far. I like to think that I look younger than my years, but by no stretch of the imagination could I pass myself of as 47 years younger. Standing on my doorstep fumbling for my driving licence is ridiculous. Last time buying alcohol from Amazon.

This is simply the best single Malt in its category. obviously you can pay big bucks for a Whisky and get something better but if you are looking for a whisky under £50, then this hands down beats the lot and given that its usually around the £28 mark you are on to a winner. Its smooth with lots of flavour, not at all harsh 9like the 10 year old), no water is required to alter its nose of flavour, it simply is warm and delicious. vanilla, toffee, with a hint of citrus all go into what is a firm favourite.

Forget the Aberlour 10 year old, this 12 year old is more than a rung above it. Smooth and rich with oak and vanilla and mixed fruits and perfect for Xmas. Absolutely delicious single malt. Once open it is hard to stop. I've been drinking this for a good few years now and Amazon's recent prices have made it more affordable. This would make a terrific gift for someone special. I bought one for Xmas but have had to buy another as it didn't last five minutes. My wife has taken charge of the second bottle.

First things first, quick delivery - could have been packaged better. The box had obviously been dropped which had damaged the carton holding the bottle. That said, this wasn't intended as a gift, so I wasn't overly bothered. The whisky itself was very nice. I'm by no means an expert when it comes to whisky, but I know my taste and enjoyed the sweet and complex flavors of this. The only downside was the bottle went down far too quickly, but I can't blame anyone but myself for that one...

For me this is the whisky against which all others are judged.. I absolutely love this stuff. I love the balance of flavours and depth. I know that whisky is almost as individual as people... but for me... this is the one they have to beat it's the absolute cats whiskers. I still haven't drunk all the whiskies in Scotland.. but of all that I have done.. this is it for me.Buy this pretending you are going to gift it to someone.. and you'll end up drinking it yourself.

Absolutely splendid whisky for the age and price. It's exactly what one may expect from bourbon and sherry cask scotch. For my personal preference this is a perfect marrying of flavours where you can taste everything on offer clearly and they're not fighting for dominance. You have vanilla caramelly classic bourbon cask scotch flavours with sweet winey sherry cask flavours that together build complex deeper notes of chocolate and a hint of barrel spice.
